Regarding your comment about Kyoko Hori, yeah I agree. I have no idea if she has any special traits or anything, but I don't think she needs any. The writers surely knew what they were doing as they did ultimately manage to create a really freaking good romance story. I think that everyone who's hating on her is just not the smartest person. Even if her insecurities are very normal, her desires very normal, her personality very normal, I think that's what makes her such a good character. She has been written very simply, but Myamura has been written less so.
I think that this contrast of a completely normal school girl falling in love with this detailed and in-depth character, was done entirely intentionally by the writers. This was so that they could create a unique relationship dynamic of the two characters, who came from two completely different worlds, and allow for interesting interactions to take place. The characters find each other progressively more interesting, as a result they eventually want to know more and more about one another. This links in to the fact that they do come from two different worlds afterall.
Myamura hating horror movies, Myamura not understanding Hori's kink/fetish, Myamura dealing with Hori's insecurities and worries. It's the in-depth character who is being dragged into this normal bubble that exists around Hori, because the 'less normal' time is over for Myamura, and he has been slowly saying goodbye to his old self as his life has been gradually changing for the better throughout the anime.
I admit that at this point I may be reading too much into it, or perhaps I'm spot on with my analysis, but either way, at least some stuff aligns with my analysis and that's the important point I'm trying to make - There is not really a need for both of the characters being unique since the writers did manage to create something amazing afterall.
People are even writing songs about it here's 1 right now
It's a masterpiece of a show I highly recommend it
