FLCL: Progressive

May 2, 2023

While the original FLCL surprised me positively with its quality of animation and all the mysteries in the story leaving a really positive image, this one feels a lot... Emptier? It's more of the same but somehow less so. I enjoyed the animation for sure but the story felt like it rushed forward too fast and there was not much progression. The story also feels like it revolves around Haruko a lot more which honestly feels like a huge detriment and just really punches in how unlikeable of a character she actually is. We only got a glimpse of this in the original with all the other drama going on but she... See full review

Digimon Ghost Game

Apr 16, 2023

The premise of a ghost hunting digimon series is fun, giving room for a lot of darker stories you would not necessarily expect from a series like this. Essentially Ghost Game is Ghostbusters with Digimon, and as a fan of both franchises this really struck home with me. Just like Ghostbusters the series revolves around a monster-of-the-week format with only an underlying frame of a continuous story. The series has its mysterious moments and characters that make cameos, are referenced or otherwise relate to later events but they are so few and far between you almost forget most of the longer running plotlines... Record of Ragnarok

Oct 2, 2022

This is a no spoilers review on how Record of Ragnarok is a great example of a manga series that does NOT translate well into an animated show. If you ever felt like Dragon Ball got ridiculous when characters charged their moves for what felt like forever and the battles took multiple episodes to get solved, this definitely takes the cake. You see a match start, immediately followed by some backstory, flashbacks, exposure, or just generally characters talking about the fighters, followed by maybe a minute or so of the fight, followed by more flashbacks and whatever... Rinse and repeat until the... See full review

Love, Chunibyo, & Other Delusions! Rikka Version

May 26, 2022

They really missed the mark by not actually making this a retelling of the story from Rikka's delusional perspective. Now all it does is be an over extended recap of the first season, cut so that if you haven't actually seen the show from beginning to end you will have no idea what's happening half of the time. This is because while it does include all the major situations from the show it omits almost all of the setup, making it feel like it's just jumping all over the place and time. Of course, this is all just "Rikka explaining to her friends what happened during season 1" but it still feels... See full review

A Certain Magical Index III

May 18, 2022

I'm not angry, just disappointed. That pretty much sums up my feelings of the show. I've personally never liked the main series of Index, mostly because Index herself is such an insufferable parasite, and have only watched the show to keep up with stuff in Railgun and Accelerator. However, even with a trash tier title character the previous two seasons have at least been watchable for me. This one felt like a chore. Like, I would rather be vacuuming every apartment in the building I currently live in than watch this show again. I almost dropped it after about 6 episodes but felt compelled to see this... Arcade Gamer Fubuki

Dec 28, 2020

Let me just begin this by saying that Arcade Gamer Fubuki is definitely not something that would be to everyone's tastes. I mean, if you read the description and the word "panty" sends an immediate red flag to you, don't watch it. Simple as that. However, if you are willing to watch a funny show about a girl with magical gaming panties and a colorful cast of supporting characters you're in for quite a ride filled with recognizeable arcade games (mostly Sega) throughout the ages and a ton of references to various gaming franchises. The animation itself is pretty basic early 2000s animation style... See full review
