He Wei Dao x Kaguya-sama: Love Is War?

Sep 15, 2022

I really like the main Kaguya-Sama stuff, but this isn't even a goofy fun diversion. Story: The characters from Kaguya-Sama: Love is War advertise Cup Noodles. They don't do it in a particularly entertaining way, barely going through even the most standard motions of the source material and mostly just looking at the camera and talking about how much they love the product. I knew what this was going in, but I thought that they'd have a bit more fun with the premise. Animation: The characters all look right, but its obviously very cheaply animated, even by three minute ad standards. Sound: All the... See full review

Lupin III: The Fuma Conspiracy

Apr 17, 2022

A Lupin The Third series special. Goemon is getting initiated into a clan of a woman he's fallen in love with, and the clan has an ancient vase that they have to protect from their enemeies. The Lupin Gang getting involved with all of this, and the hidden treasure that the vase is needed to find. Story: This is definitely a weak link. Its interesting to see Goemon get a bit of focus, but the woman he's involved with isn't very interesting, the hidden treasure thing was predictable right from the beginning, and there really isn't anything special in the story to keep your attention. It feels like an... See full review

NoisyCell x Ponkotsu Quest

Mar 5, 2022

I basically have no idea what this was, I just watched it because I randomly saw it listed on the site, and it was short (about 3 minutes). Story: Two little monster guys are sitting around and apparently arguing with each other (there are no English subtitles). A music video (which is just a band playing instruments) plays in the corner, and sometimes the video shows the music video full screen. The two characters argue the whole time, until the music video takes over for the last 20ish seconds, and then what I think is an ad for a (at the time, presumably) upcoming album is show. Animation: The two... See full review

Remake our Life! Recap

Sep 22, 2021

A recap episode, specifically recapping the first 6 episodes of Remake our Life! I didn't watch the main show, but watched this to see how a recap like this would be for non-viewers. It wasn't great. Story: A guy is failing at life and wishes that he could go back in time 10 years and fix things, goes to sleep and wakes up 10 years in the past. This recap episode is very disjointed besides that, I could follow some basic things but so much is jumbled up they very obviously expected you to watch the recap after having watched the 6 episodes, which makes a recap even more of a waste of time then I had... UzaMaid! - My Maid Is Still Seriously Way Too Annoying...

Apr 28, 2019

Do you want an anime special based on a show about an adult maid who is probably just one bad day away from being on a sex offender list? Do you want to watch a show that might put you on one? If so, then this is the anime for you! Story: This is two short stories about a adulkt female maid, and her assistant, watching over a 5 year old (ish) and just straight up talking about wanting to marry the little girl and have kids with her. The first short involves hotsprings, and the second involves the little girl trying to be a maid. Both made me feel like Chris Hansen was going to be knocking on my door at... See full review

Kino's Journey: Life Goes On

Aug 18, 2018

Based on the light novel and 2003 anime series Kino's Journey, this special tells a bit of Kino's backstory, and why she travels, starting with her first trip after training with her master. Story: This could have been very good, and revealed a lot about a character who doesn't get much in her series. But, it totally skips most of the info about the big event in her pre-traveling life (I only know about it from googling), to the point where this all felt like a waste of time. There wasn't even an interesting new land to see, meaning the special had neither a particularly interesting story or the... See full review

Kino's Journey: Tower Country

Aug 17, 2018

Based on the 2003 Kino's Journey anime, this is an "episode 0" for the series, although really its just another story, just done after the anime itself was finished. Story: Kino is a traveler who visits various countries with her sentient motorcycle Hermes. In this special, they arrive in a country where everyone spends their whole lives working on building a huge tower. Its so tall, it goes off into the sky. While here, Kino meets someone rom that country who questions what they do. The story is ok. The movie doesn't really answer the "why" of anything, but it presents an interesting... See full review

Junji Ito "Collection"

Mar 24, 2018

This was a huge disappointment. I didn't know much abouyt Junji Itou, except that he's a popular horror writer and that his art that I've seen looks really cool. So, the idea of an anthology based off his short stories seemed like a great idea. Unfortunately, this show basically botched everything. Of the 24ish segments, I think 5 or 6 were genuinely good, but it was despite the anime's mediocre to bad production values. Honestly, outside of one or two segments that I don't think were really any good at a base level, this shows fails mostly because its just a bad adaptation, not because of the source... Denki Groove: UFOholic

Mar 19, 2018

So, this was a thing. a four minute music video that is listed as an anime...because, I guess (I'm sure there is a reason, I just didn't really look). Story: A weird looking horse splits, multiplies, bounces, merges, transforms and does other weird stuff. Animation: Its really trippy. For what it is it looks...ok? But there isn't much to it, its weird but I doubt it was too expensive or difficult to do, and honestly even the weirdness got old about 2 minutes in. Sound: The music played behind the animation is basic, but not unplesant. Probably the only slightly decent part of... See full review
