High School DxD

Sep 20, 2018

Bottom Line: - This show's theme is "How to get as much Hentai on screen, without being classified as a Hentai." Instead, watch Rosario + Vampire. It's far less over the top with better characters, but still the same genre. The Good: - Boobs - More boobs - Holy shit, there's boobs everywhere! The Bad: - Alright, in seriousness, I actually watched this anime more for the" hunting rogue demons" and "demon tournament" part of this anime, as that is my favorite genre. And, to be honest, it does a decent job at first... until it doesn't... around mid-way season 2. - But, I... See full review

Armed Girl’s Machiavellism

Sep 17, 2018

Bottom Line: - Not a shounen. Also, since when is it funny to torture people? Oh, that's right, it's funny because they're men. I mean what kind of social climate do you have to live in for this to be funny? The Good: - Main character uses fist techniques vs superior weaponry. This makes for good overcomming overwhelming odds scenarios. - The first few episodes did have a few humorous scenes. - The generic antogonist build-up effect was efficiently used to keep things mildly interesting. - Character design is decent enough, similar to Kill La Kill artwork. - It ends in one season. The Bad: - Humor... See full review

Utawarerumono

Aug 4, 2018

Bottom Line: - The author basically watched things like Ah My Goddess, Inuyasha, Escaflowne, Juuni Kokki, Guyver and thought, "I like those, I'll do that... in no coherent order." A.K.A. A waist of time. The Good: - Character asthetic design is better than average. - Fight scenes aren't completely unpleasant to watch - Not much else, I'm affraid. The Bad: - This anime failed before it even got off the ground. You need a theme to make a story. A theme makes your story's objective and character objectives make sense. Without a theme, you litterally will have random thoughts strewn... See full review

Akame ga Kill!

Aug 5, 2017

Bottom Line: - Pointless. The conflict is poorly managed between the protagonists and the antagonists. The ending is trash. The Good: - Akame ga Kill has a coherent story line and final direction. This, this right here made me want to enjoy this anime, and I might have overlooked SO MUCH, just for this one aspect alone, simply because of the rarity of a coherent story in modern anime. It's too bad Akame ga Kill had to go and ruin itself beyond recoverablity. - Aesthetic character design. - Nice color pallet for most scenes. - Akame ga Kill begins with some potential. Its a standard hook of a hero to... See full review

Tokyo Ghoul √A

Jun 3, 2017

Bottom Line: - Starts off good, goes down hill from there. Parasyte is better. The Good: - Good setup. Takes the powerful supernatural-passes-on-powers-to-the-main-character-approach in a unique way. - Showcases some really nice ideas. They took from deadman wonderland and built on it. - It starts off with a good theme, or at least usable: To stop the war between humans and ghouls. The Bad: -They purposely ditched the story for mind shock factor. I understand that this is quicker and easier for a lazy author but, when used to such an extent, it destroys whatever work they put into the beginning of... See full review

One-Punch Man

Jul 2, 2016

Don't buy into the overhype and you'll appreciate this show. - Bottom line Pro's: - Excellent animated fight scenes - Exceptional music and opening ( not so much the ending ) - Some characters were well done with simple but effect plot lines - Unique main character look - Adequate amount of humor for this short series - First decent anime that one can feel good about leaving off at the end of Season 1 Con's:  - No super objective, simply random stories thrown together in order to draw pictures about  - Rediculous characters ( One Piece made this get old real fast )  - When... KonoSuba – God's blessing on this wonderful world!!

Mar 26, 2016

"Refreshing" This is the word that this series brings to mind.  In short, think of something like Exel Saga but far less over-the-top and dealing strictly with the MMO genre, that's Konosuba, in a nutshell. For those who have not seen Exel Saga, this anime takes other shows like Log Horizon and SAO, or simply the standard mmo game, and turns those stories into a parady comedy.  Pros:   Fewer dryspots than most other shows. For the most part, it'll keep you entertained until the end.   Despite making fun of mmos and it's players... See full review

Hunter x Hunter (2011)

Sep 3, 2015

Bottom Line: - The original was better, way better. The show went on for far too long, the author had no end in sight. The Good: - Digital upgrade to the art (this is both a positive and negative). It looks nicer, but they loose the atmosphere in many of the scenes as well as failing to capture proper character emotions that the first one did so well. - Killua (the assassin and co-protagonist) remained intact from the original. - Watchable up to greed island. - That's it. The Bad: - Gon, the main protagonist, which you are supposed to like, is a horrible character. He spares 3 bombers who murdered... See full review

Outlaw Star

Sep 3, 2015

Bottom Line: - My favorite anime of all time. The Good: - Opening and Ending (both seasons) are outstanding. OST is solid. - First episode hook is top notch. - Protagonists were a little bit trope, but unique enough to make them memorable. - Bad guys are serious badasses. - There are no overpowered badguys or goodguys, which makes for awesome action sequences. - Voice overs are amazing, both Japanese and English alike. - Does episodic well, but each episode gets the story closer to its finale. (No wrapping the story up in the last 4 episodes) - Doesn't do anything stupid with the story - Only 1... See full review

Shiki

Mar 22, 2015

Bottom Line: - Modern anime done -almost- right. The Good: - Traditional vampires. No sparkles. - Cool eye artwork and animation. Nice choice of moments to use them, really adds creep factor. - Great music. Very eeire. Overall, solid OST. - A coherent story with the most satisfying ending I've seen in a long time, a VERY long time. - Most satisfying death of a hated protagonist. - Most of the time, the main characters aren't completely inept and actual come up with some clever plans. - Humanizes the antagonists but still manages to keep them as the bad guys. The Bad: - The artwork and animation... See full review

Hellsing Ultimate

Nov 10, 2014

Bottom Line: - They've ruined the original. What's worse, anime nerds have been conditioned to like this crap. The Good: - Character artwork has improved - That's it, it goes downhill from there The Bad: - Once beloved, character backstories are destroyed with useless, sappy scenes that serve no purpose other than to provide fan service, at best. - Useless nudity. The rape scene is disgusting and serves no purpose to aid in the story. There is literally no reason why this should be in Hellsing in the first place. This is an action anime, not a mind fk. - The music is awful, just plain bad. There's... See full review

Blood-C

Aug 1, 2014

Bottom line: - Better than Hellsing Ultimate. The Good: - I like the main character design. Good color pallet, nice blend of ancient shrine priestess with modern school samurai design. The character also is inherently good, as in empathetic to others, woefully rare these days. - The fight scenes are good. Unlike other gory animes, such as Hellsing or Fist of the North Star, the main character is strong, but not rediculously overpowered. I've never understood what draws the masses to an anime in which the main character can never be defeated. There's a thing called conflict people, it's a vital story... See full review
