Anime in 200 Words: Angel Tales
Premise: Everyone has lost a pet, but in Angel Tales, Goro’s 12 pets don’t actually die; they become guardian angels and return to protect him. It’s a cute concept until the gushy love from all the girls kicks in. Sure, pets love you, but should they want to marry you? Not so much.
Characters: The people in Angel Tales aren’t fully developed, which is likely due to the sheer number of them. (I remember 18 faces and 9 names.) In any case, the character designs and personality traits are cute, matching the animals well.
Audience: I’m guessing young girls, because it feels like the show doesn’t even know what a harem is… despite the fact that there is one. Pretty dresses, magical powers, cat fights, and traditional female roles support this.
Sound: Angel Tales uses 3 or 4 songs exclusively, and the casting staff preferred high and squeaky voices. Not a big fan.
Overall: If you like sugary anime, go ahead and try Angel Tales. While this wasn’t my favorite series, there were special moments; I enjoyed watching the puppy go on a walk. One episode will tell you if you’ll like the show.
