I would definitely recommend this to anyone new to sports anime. Id started a few others before but none of them kept me interested enough to finish them. Kuroko no basket is kinda a sports anime with super powers but that bit of extra flair and drama captured my attention for long enough that by the time the effect wore off I was really attached to the characters and their journey. After I finished it I found myself interested in sports anime where I hadn't particularly cared before.
The story is pretty straightforward, they play in tournaments and train to win, nothing outstanding there. However the characters are brilliantly done. Those you think of as extras at the start become an essential part of the team by the end. The generation of miracles was very interesting and so were the relationships and bonds between them and the seirin team. The main duo was amazing. Kuroko and Taiga are basically a dream to watch grow and develop both individually and as a pair. Its not perfect though some of the characters, especially from the generation of miracles, recieve a lot more time and attention than others and you don't really get any background on any of the characters that is unrelated to basketball which I thought was a shame.
A final note on the animation; it was bloody stunning. I am so impressed by how beautifully it was done and how great an effect it had on the atmosphere of the show.
Overall, it served as a fantastic introduction to the genre and I would definitely recommend it.
