Don't Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro

Apr 27, 2024

I can't help but wonder about gender double standards. In many a scene I pictured the cast gender reversed and it definitely doesn't paint a good picture at all. Yet, it is what it is and for what it is, it's okay. If you get over the constant harassment and bullying and outright trauma and just get over the whole premise of this show, yes, then you might even get a laugh or two. It clearly shows that Nagatoro's design is meant to appeal in a rather erotic way which In my opinion might be the reason most people watched this show in the first place. But that's to be expected. What I can't unsee, however... See full review

Remake our Life!

Apr 10, 2024

Contains major spoilers First of all, I enjoyed the art. I also enjoyed the first few episodes. But then it got stale. Characters acted like MC was some kind of Messiah working wonders, but he just did basic stuff. Then they made everything obsolete by skipping time and introducing the possibility of redoing it all again, taking all the value out of it. I might have given this an average overall rating. But they made the MC leave behind his wife and daughter. His daughter simply will never exist by him going back a second time - by choice this time. This ruined it for me, big time. They tried to... A Couple of Cuckoos

Apr 9, 2024

This anime nails it in the art department. The animation and modern style across all 24 episodes are seriously impressive and what initially got me hooked. But, there's a bit of a rollercoaster when it comes to the story. On one hand, there's more progression than your typical harem anime, which is refreshing. On the other, there's this frustrating lack of development that leaves you wanting more. Let's talk about the elephant in the room: the ridiculous premise. I mean, seriously? No one notices a gender swap at birth, and the hair color change? It's a bit much. But if you can look past those... See full review

Children of the Sea

Jan 13, 2024

This movie left me annoyed. Annoyed, because it is like two people made every aspect of it. One who is barely beyond a student's grasp on his subject, the other a master. So for example, the background art is just amazing, but the front art and especially the characters feel so out of place, it's unbelievable. It really seems like they just coloured in 3D models at some point and then there's the horrible art style for the faces which makes them all look like some gloomy paintings, just OFF. Or the story, it's got a nice first third, and a mystery that seems compelling, but suddenly everything just... See full review

Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms

Feb 17, 2020

Anyone capable of basic calculation will see, that the numbers don't add up. Let me tell you, why Maquila is only a 5 out of 10, despite having astonishing graphics (cringy dragons not included), a rather solid cast and a quite passable soundtrack.  The culprit, of course, is the plot. It starts good, becomes spectacular and... plunges right into the pitfalls of storytelling midway. Up until around the half of this movie you actually get, what is happening. Then it suddenly becomes hasty, even hastier and ends up sprinting towards the goal, all the while you as the viewer will still try to get why... See full review

Ni no Kuni

Feb 17, 2020

What a waste of time and effort to create a movie but end up with what feels like a rough summary of a 24 episode anime - you get the plot but bare of any tension, development,  character growth or even emotional attachment as the viewer. And to be honest, the plot isn't that great either. Twists, or what is implied to be such, can be foreseen way to early and do little to the overall progression of the story, since everyone is way too OP to even care.  The biggest problem in this plot are the coincidences, but also every single challenge for the MCs being super easy, barely an inconvenience. The... See full review

Vinland Saga

Oct 19, 2019

When I first heard of this anime, I was reluctant to watch it. Vikings and anime weren't two things my brain was able to process anywhere near the "good idea" section, when combined.  But since I ran out of shows to prefer over Vinland Saga to watch next, I gave it a try.  I went in blind, but oh Lord, how truly blind I was! This anime is without a doubt one of the best shows I've seen so far. It's a masterpiece of storytelling, the animation is superb, the characters are interesting and deep, and the only problem might be a slightly irritating choice of music for the... See full review

Bleach

May 25, 2019

Oof... Where to begin?  First of all, the story is absolutely foreseeable. The MC isn't challenged, since he is deus-ex-machinaing new powers as soon as he meets an opponent stronger than himself. No real struggle there, although the anime desperately tries to make you believe that. Didn't buy it though. Animation' s rather sloppy, and sequences are so often reused, you could make a drinking game of this. Sound was awful... Gospel choir singing dumb lines like "if you wanna see some action..." to even dumber action scenes... Pain to watch. Well... I gave it a try. The second one... See full review

Violet Evergarden

May 16, 2019

Truth be said: It was a pleasure to watch. It was entertaining. But it lacks the perfect balance of drama and action, so it felt like being one episode this, one that, but nether actually both. It also lacked a satisfying explanation of Violet's origins. That apart it was actually pretty good.

Masamune-kun's Revenge

Nice premise - aaaand gotten all standard rather fast. It was obvious, where this was going. Read the manga after watching this. And no surprises there either. Still a good show. But nothing that will surprise you.

Your lie in April

May 10, 2019

Yeah.... Just finished watching this one. Story: I loved it. But honestly.... it wasn't the most waterproof plot considering logic. They sure have much time to think about literally everything else but playing the piano - while playing it. Espacially, since they tried so hard to learn the notes etc. That aside, it was intriguing and DAMN was it emotional! Almost shed a tear there. Animation: Beautiful. Really. But what is it with those lips? Background art not consistently but most of the time fantastic. Sound: Yeah, someone sure loved Chopin. There are so many different styles and artists, great... Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend

May 10, 2019

Actually, I did not want to write a review about this anime - at first. I dropped it at episode 6. For good reasons. I write this review because I want to share those reasons.
Nothing, absolutely nothing about this anime felt new. Maybe, because there wasn't even a plot to compare to other shows. And what little plot there is can be considered complete nonsense. None of the scenes made sense. It was utter rubbish. Trash. True, sometimes logic isn't what determines if an anime was good. But complete lack of it ruins even the best settings. What brings us to the next point. The setting. The whole idea... See full review

Yona of the Dawn

Apr 27, 2019

Intriguing plot, diverse characters, a villain with wits and an actual motive, loveable side characters, a suirrel you can only love, perfect humour and last but not least a heroine with a realistic character development - this and more you will get from watching this anime. Definetely one of my favorite shows so far.

ReLIFE

Apr 26, 2019

A good premise, but rather meager plot development. I had to laugh quite some times, but at the end it was just mediocre romcom, rather than having made use of the wonderful idea and setting. It felt like having the potential for more and  eeper stuff. The piano was quite annoying....

Snow White with the Red Hair 2nd Season

Apr 24, 2019

Well, it sure leaves one behind feeling unsatisfied. Since there is no third season, I would have preferred it to end properly, but it still is a very good season after all, though not as superb as season 1. Liked the story so far and will continue on reading the manga, which I hope delivers on the End.

Snow White with the Red Hair

Apr 23, 2019

Oh, it is really one of the best anime  I've Seen so far. It is a heartwarming and truly entertaining Interpretation of Snow White, although that much of the original stuff didn't make it in the adapted plot. To be honest, after the first Episode, the title so daringly snatched from the tale of Snow White doesn't fit the Show at all. But honestly, no one cares. It is a overall very endearing Story, not too hastily paced, and there is a nice Mix of Action, intrigues, adventure and of course romance in it. It leaves behind a genuinely good feeling, although open ended. Of course, the plot may be... See full review
