That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime

Apr 4, 2019

This is a great isekai anime with unique sense of scale, no doubt. But it has its problems, which I will go over in a second. For now, a quick question: should I start watching Slime? Yes. Absolutely. It's shaping to be one of the biggest shows of next couple of years, so it's best to start right now and get on the hypewagon. Now for the critique. The first 13 episodes are incredibly good. The worldbuilding, the charming animation, the deep characterization, the goals that he sets out for himself, and how he achieves them — all are brilliant. The show loses a lot of punch after that. From the... See full review

Junji Ito "Collection"

Apr 1, 2018

Let me preface this by saying that I've never read any his stories and I enjoyed this anime a bit. That's, I suspect, because in general I don't really watch any horrors and I've gone to make the circumstances as good as possible in the terms of scariness: no lights, closed doors etc. Having said that, this is a collection of stories, 2 per episode. As I recall, it usually was a lighter and a creepier story paired together. They usually left me pretty creeped out, but often enough I was laughing throughout the episodes enough to lose the immersion. That's because all the setup, all the creepiness of the... Terra Formars: Revenge

Apr 20, 2017

Hey, the first was pretty bad because of pacing and general stupidity, but it had its dark art style going for it, as well as the gore and the animation and some pretty interesting bug science. The sequel... has literally nothing that made the original passable.

It's a terrible anime. Fun, but terrible. If you like superpowers and violence, go for it. Just don't expect it to make much sense.

Re:ZERO: Starting Life in Another World

Sep 18, 2016

Great show. Amazing take on Isekai, gripping, thrilling anime, seriously engaging the viewer. A lot of plot spikes seriosuly messing up the emotional response. Plethora of great side characters, ones with actual character development too. We get a lot of Subaru's mindset, and hes portrayed very deeply. The anime does a great job with showing and not telling, and it does tell, it sweeps people off their feet. The main problem with the show I and many people have, is the lack of screen time Emilia, the supposedly main girl, gets. But it cant be helped because of a) the source material b) limited time on the... See full review

The Perfect Insider

Apr 24, 2016

It's a noitaminA show which I very much enjoyed. There are many people that disliked it, but I was not one of them. Subete ga F ni Naru is a mystery detective show, and, unlike Ranpo Kitan (previously shown on noitaminA), actually has a mystery and detective work. It's a closed room story -- and I found quite interesting. Granted, I don't watch or read many detective stories, but this one really captivated me. It is similarly driven by deeper themes -- philosophical questions about the nature of a person, freedom, love, death. Some found it shallow, pretentious even -- I didn't. I felt like the questions... See full review

KonoSuba – God's blessing on this wonderful world!

Mar 31, 2016

Non-pretentious anime with some excessive fanservice. Parodies a person in a mmo anime quite well. Gags are fine, if not sometimes overtly based on sexual innuendo, but the show has a refreshing quality to it. EXPLOSIONS and Megumin in general is a very strong point of this series.

The animation is deen tier. The sound is mediocre. Voice acting, apart for Megumin, is mediocre. Overall, it's a decently executed adaptation of a funny source material. Would recommend if you'r looking for a good laugh and don't mind occassional fanservice (it does get pretty heavy in the last 3 episodes though).

GATE (2016)

Mar 26, 2016

Amazing show. Great animation. Engaging characters. Lots of tension. Questionable romances - one might say for fanservice purposes, but I enjoyed them, as they made sense plot-wise. Pina's voice was great. Rory's voice was great. Hoping that they'll make a season 3.

Heavy Object

Mar 6, 2016

A well defined anime about mechs and war that doesn't take itself too seriously. Well executed, apart from few pacing hiccups. Despite the tendency for each fight to be more over the top than the last one, the show didn't lose its force and managed to produce tension with each episode. It's kinda like McGyver of anime. With some blatant fanservice, but I didn't mind. The main chatacters were pretty well fleshed outs -- you can genuinely feel the friendship between the two main broes of the show. Of course, the canonical density of the MC had to be in place for the fanservice and plot reasons, but the... See full review

SHIMONETA: A Boring World Where the Concept of Dirty Jokes Doesn’t Exist

Feb 11, 2016

A funny show. Utilises censorship to its advantage. Translation issues may arise, as with all shows based on puns. Plot is okay. Does give the viewer something to think about - censorship, banishing sex from public life, taboos, terrorism etc, are all very relevant topics nowadays. Doesn't take itself seriously (obviously), which allows for some top notch absurdity. Animation is not anything spectacular. Fight scenes are hilarious though. Good ecchi scenes. Reverse rape (several, actually) Nice voice acting, catchy OP/ED Character desing is mediocre, but Gorilla-kun makes up for it. Overall, good show... See full review

Overlord

Sep 30, 2015

I think it's only fair to state beforehand that I loved Overlord. The premise, the world, the execution of magic, the meta-mmo aspects of it, the main characters and the supporting characters as much. There are so few things that I didn't like I am actually really surprised. I think it's also important to say that I have NOT watched No Game No Life or Sword Art Online as of now, and probably will not do so in the foreseeable future. Keeping that in mind, I can't address the arguments that Overlord is a rip-off of these shows on the bases of the copying of the player trapped in MMO, apart from saying that... See full review

Gangsta.

Sep 29, 2015

Gangsta was one of the series that I've watched in three sittings when the season was heading toward its end. It was something, along with Shimoneta, that I've been looking forward to watching. The premise was interesting and plenty of hyped comments reached my ears. However, as I talked about a week ago about wanting to watch it, I was met by snarky comments. And for 6 episodes I didn't know what was wrong. It all boils down to that episode 8. The show just goes downhill from that. Up until that moment I enjoyed the steady and sufficient plot progression, introductions of several characters, and the... See full review

Ranpo Kitan: Game of Laplace

Sep 20, 2015

Ranpo kitan is a weird anime. It starts promising, a mystery and gore combined, with a detective work to be done. But the illusion is soon dispersed. There is barely any crime solving, and the answers are given to the audience plainly.

The main character (?) Kobayashi, often serves no purpose but to be a trap flavour. Now I don't have a problem with traps, cross-dressing or boy love, but he simply is redundant in the series. The real character is Akechi -- he has a backstory and an actual personality. That of a typical conflicted prodigy, but a personality nonetheless. The show's strength are its... See full review
