It is quite rare that I come across an anime that actually makes me want to write a review about it. This is the case for Bakuman.
The story is about two boys, Mashiro and Takagi, who dream of being managaka. The anime is all about them putting 100% of their effort in to making that dream come true. I have to admit that the road to becoming a manga artist story line did not appeal to me completely and that is why I put off watching this anime for so long. However, the fact that it mixes shounen, slice of life, comedy, and romance (the best four categories of anime, in my opinion) makes Bakuman. all the more interesting. So, if you're procrastinating on watching this one, get stop reading this review right now and go watch! If you are interested in the manga industry, then this is a must watch for you as this anime shows the ins and outs of what it takes to be in the industry. As I mentioned before, there is a little bit of romance in this anime too which is depicted through the small side story of Mashiro and the girl who likes, Azuki. It's a very cute, innocent relationship that some may find kind of frustrating because of it's pace. I found it kind of endearing and inspiring though.
The animation is definitely one of the huge strong points of Bakuman. As it should be considering it's an anime about manga artists. I love when an anime has distinct characters so that you can actually easily tell them apart. Each character has thier own special look to them.
The opening song is like this really annoying pop song, but it's super catchy to where you can't help but to sing along even if you are not a Japanese speaker! LOL. You will find yourself trying your best to sing along. By the end of the season I was a super fan of the OP. I also, liked the characters unique voices especially that of Nizuma who is super unqiue and makes crazy funny sounds.
Besides the animation, the main strong point and the reason why this anime is so great is the characters. Each one with their own unique personality. Mashiro stands out as the shows hero and a very likeable one at that. But, surprisingly, Nizuma, who I thought I was going to hate when he first entered the scene, is a huge stand out. He grew on me quickly and became my favorite character.
