Apart from the whole becoming the demon lord aspect it's not similar at all, infact they are completely different stories. The whole "demon lord" schtick in general is a pretty common anime trope anyway, it's not like they exclusively copied it from that anime. Do agree that this is a trash show tho.
I'm glad you wrote this comment because I decided to check out Demon King Daimao myself and found that it was so much better. Their stories are slightly different but they have painfully similar premises and both ended with a huge load of useless and confusing lore. But demon king daimao definitely flowed better and i wasn't forcing myself to sit through it just for the sake of finishing it.
