And all with pearl and ruby glowing

Was the fair palace door ;

Through which came flowing, flowing, flowing,

And sparkling evermore,

A troop of echoes, whose sweet duty

Was but to sing

In voices of surpassing beauty,

The wit and wisdom of their king. But evil things in robes of sorrow,

Assailed the monarch's high estate!

Ah, let us mourn — for never morrow

Shall dawn upon him desolate!

And round about his home the glory,

That blushed and bloomed,

Is but a dim-remembered story

Of the old time entombed. And travellers now within that valley,

Through the red-litten windows, see

Vast forms that move fantastically

To a discordant melody;

While, like a rapid ghastly river,

Through the pale door;

A hideous throng rush out forever,

And laugh — but smile no more.

Happy Be-lated Halloween!!! Did you get to dress up? I bet you can guess what I dressed up as *wink* - The Marvelous Captain Lolo

The Haunted Place - Edgar Allen Poe

In the greenest of our valleys

By good angels tenanted,

Once a fair and stately palace —

Snow-white palace— reared its head.

In the monarch thought's dominion —

It stood there!

Never Seraph spread his pinion

Over fabric half so fair.

Banners yellow, glorious, golden,

On its roof did float and flow —

This — all this — was in the olden

Time long ago —

And every gentle air that dallied,

In that sweet day,

Along the rampart plumed and pallid,

A winged odour went away.

All wanderers in that happy valley,

Through two luminous windows saw Spirits moving musically

To a lute's well tuned law,

Round about a throne where sitting

(Porphyrogene!) In state his glory well befitting,

The sovereign of the realm was seen.

Im going there on sunday ;) She has been to the doctor alot the last week, so it was not really the time for me to go there. (she has high blood pressure that had become even higher)

But I am still a bit restricted in my computer use, my sister is, for various reasons, writing a pm/home exam on my computer and that has higher prio than my surfing and chatting ;)

Oh, counter argue away. Our genras are entirely different though. This isn't to say I haven't read some of the things you listed, I have a soft spot for Jane sometimes, and to this day my favorite book is still The Count of Monte Cristo(which I read originally back in jr high). Overall though, from your profile you have a much steeper vestment in "the classics" than i do. My area of intrest is more toward the 1920's to early 1970's. Huge upheavel in how stories were told through that time period. Went downhill after that because genras and sub-genras became standardized again, novels stopped being about exploring new areas, and ways to tell it.. and more about fleshing out area that had already been trailblazed. Btw, thats not exclusive to scifi, the basic idea of how authors approached telling the story in a novel went over some massive revisions during that time frame.

So, you're viewpoint should be a bit different.
