Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury - Part II

Dec 25, 2023

Witch from Mercury was on track to be the best Gundam Anime ever made imo. It had so much going for it, fun and interesting characters, a budding romance, cute anime girls and badass mecha action but it stumbled in the final lap. Despite the insame amount of work the rest of the series did building to this amazing final chapter with so much on the line the the story essentially just stops... It legit feels like there's an entire episode missing from the series and they spliced together the penultimate episode and the last 5 minutes of the final one. There are a million plot threads that were building that... See full review

Summoned to Another World for a Second Time

Dec 25, 2023

Another cool premise ruined by shoehorning in unnecessary tropes. Like why does this have to be a harem on top of everything else?

The Misfit of Demon King Academy 2

Mar 6, 2023

The second season of The Misfit of Demon King Academy is one of the greatest examples of how and why not to do a second season of a great anime. The first season of the series was amazing. On paper it was a stereotypical example of a generic Isekai but the execution was flawless and as the story unfolded it drip fed you these small hints at a greater story that built up to an awesome and satisfying conclusion. All of which the 2nd season almost immediately throws out the window.   The second season starts with a retcon, adding in this new character that "was there the whole time!" and... See full review

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners

Sep 24, 2022

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is a great show with interesting characters, a living and breathing world, and top tier action scenes, my biggest issue with the show is how much they borrow from the studio's previous show Agame La Kill. There are some differences but the major story beats the protagonist follows are the same and even the supporting characters follow a similar overall story arc.  The series is still very enjoyable and I HIGHLY recomend it (especially if you haven't seen agame la kill) but the series hits different with that context of them reusing material, at least it did for me.

Arifureta: From Commonplace to World's Strongest

Jun 1, 2020

My feelings are perfectly surmised by another review I saw when I went to write mine: At first I thought this might turn out interesting, but I swear the quality gets blander and blander with every episode. Those are my exact feelings about this anime. The first episode was fraking amazing, it was (what's becoming) a common twist on the normal isekai formula but still enjoyable nonetheless. A class is transported to another world and they gain powers and have to delve dungeons in order to get stronger powers/cooler stuff in order to acomplish a goal. Our protagonist is unfortunately the unlucky one in the... See full review

Akashic Records of Bastard Magic Instructor

Jun 5, 2017

The first and second episodes started pretty strong, the teacher was presented as someone who wasn't strong in a conventional sense but through a deep understanding of magic he was able to be one of the best magicians in the country. In the lesson where he conveyed to his students who had already learned a specific magic chant that what they were learning wasn't as helpful as they thought it was he showed them how complex magic can actually be, how modifying chants could change the effects and even being able to make up your own chant for a spell. This was totally awesome and I was really expecting... See full review

Sword Art Online II

Aug 20, 2015

Sword Art Online 2 starts off fairly strong, branching off into a new genre works well and it's really cool to see at least Kirito interacting with a new and different type of world. The first half of this arc is really interesting and the pacing for it is very well done, you get enough of a feel for the world that you know whats going on but aren’t bored that its going too slow, that completely changes in the arc’s 2nd half. Immediately when they get to the Ballet of Bullets the story slows to a crawl with that one event lasting 8 episodes. Like the first season of Sword Art Online its... See full review

Your lie in April

May 29, 2015

Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso is an unvarnished look at not only the tragedy of having lost someone but also the slow, agonizing process of having someone you love wasting away and being helpless to do anything about it. It examines the people they leave behind and the constant struggle between what was and what might have been. Its a story that's been told a thousand times but also one that cuts so deep because it's so real. It's corny, over the top, and I loved every second of it.

Plastic Memories

Apr 7, 2015

When you watch the first episode of this anime you may be put off by the slow intro that feels so much like every other light hearted romance/office hijinks show you've seen but I'm telling you that you owe it to yourself to sit through the whole thing. Without spoiling it, its really hard to convey the range of emotion that this anime is able to get across without seeming as though they made it just to pander to audiences. This show has weight and substance but isn't afraid to lighten the mood in-between just so that things don't seem so bleak.

Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion

Dec 17, 2014

Its hard to find the right words to describe how utterly perfect this anime is. The slow introduction of plot elements throughout the series, the magnificent world building, and the subtle little twists and turns suddenly becoming a rollercoaster. By the end of watching this series you'll be struck by how it ended exactly how it should have, when the motivations suddenly become clear and the realization of what the show just pulled off you'll most likely be left speechless, I know I was. I have given exactly zero shows 10/10, ever. If I have to ever recomend any one anime, its Code Geass. You won't be... See full review

The Legend of the Legendary Heroes

Aug 7, 2014

I'm not sure how this anime has such a high score, do other people just have a much higher tolerance for unlikable characters and a generic plot? This anime is so absolutely cookie cutter it's a joke that it has a rating of around 4 stars. The opening scene of the first episode is intensely graphic, we see devilish creatures eating what we assume to be people. The bodies of hundreds casually discarded on the ground, most of them wearing horrific expressions. The scene following that? Two main characters doing slapstick comedy in the forest while trading magic with some random soldiers. In another part of... See full review

The Irregular at Magic High School

Jul 22, 2014

The Irregular at Magic High School is a slight twist on the modified high-school drama. While the series first few episodes do a good job of pulling you in with its expansive world and detailed magic system, it doesn't do much when it actually has your attention. The episodes leading into the middle of the season are bogged down by mostly pointless pontificating by the series many cookie cutter characters. The characters are pretty generic and if you’ve watched any high school animes in the last 5-10 years you’ll quickly recognize the tropes: the aloof badass main character, the sister...
