Inuyashiki: Last Hero

MINOR SPOILERS

Main character Development - It is undeniable that characters make a great impact for the development of plot and the overall storyline of the anime. Personally I think the characters are quite generic and flat. It is easily distinguishable between the good and evil. To compare, the evil character switch between his decisions based on his environment and personal encounter, though it is not well explained about the reasons among all his doings; whereas the good character does not really portray any personal expression or reasoning throughout his whole development, most of the time he was motivated to save the ones in need.

The character developments are predicatable. The good was an insignificant old man facing the near death of his life, and one day he was granted with super powers. The bad was a general high school kid who use this power to express personal psychopathic behaviors, it was not until specific encounter that he became more humane and remorseful. Was the plot of 'the evil turned good' or 'the evil feel remorsed' and rescued the people in need even necessary? The lives killed in homicides are irreversible, but the evil just wish to replenish the number of population through healing the cancer patients after encountering a simp? DUH..... Also, I wish there were more perspectives and details given to the relationship between Hiro and his mom, since this is the core reason why he stay alive being a nihilist.

Overpowered characters - There are not any real reasoning behind the characters settings. Why are they the chosen ones to play such roles, why are they machinized? I hope we have more explaination for this. Besides, the battle between good and evil is somewhat unrealistic and cliché, the evil is capable to excute a mass murder through screens of devices; while the good is capable of rescuing people from more than 10 plane crashes just in one flight, or healing the deaths and severly injured. This deal down to the point of whether how the overpowered capabilities are used in each good and evil.

Minor/ insignificant characters -  The girl who provides the evil character shelter is a major simp, she is the typical side character who follows her master without questioning the master's action, even unethical ones: relentless homicides/ mass murder.

Plot -  Funny how the plot resembles all typical superheroes movies, this is foreshadowed in the very beginning of the opening: the blue vs red, a.k.a good vs evil. After the alien invasion, unnatural things begin to happen, more broadcast of news about cases of murder/ sick patients healed without any reason, and rumours/ myths/ urban legend started to circulate among the internet. The tension was built up when both mechanized characters have to choose between being human and do good deeds beyond human capabilities or to lose and eliminate their humanity, submit into a souless being and march towards mass destruction of the world. Overall there is nothing much interesting about the plot, we get general scenes of war and battles between the good and evil. I would not like to spoil much about the ending.

Animation - The facial expression can be improved, they stay almost the same throughout. I like the realistic portrayal of gears, machines, fireworks of the mechanized characters, but just the motions of transformation which spoiled the whole aesthetics. The transformation seems somewhat rigid and weird, I could'nt help but laugh about serious scenes, like the scene when group of policemen shots thousands of bullets to the evil character; or when characters shoot up high into the sky. It seems like a couple of keyframes were reduced during the process.

Sound/music - I think there are a significant lack of dramitic effects when the characters were in flight or fight mode, which does not really compliment or built up the flow or pacing of the animation. In addition, it was quite a turn off when the characters deliver conversation; it seems like they were no change of expression when the old man was shock to find out his daughter was near death.

Bottom line - Convenient plot points - Weird motions and transitions in animation (CGI) - Basic character development.
