Joukyou Monogatari

May 14, 2019

A mother recalls raising her two children, one girl and one boy, while traveling to see them and their children. Her husband sleeps.

There are some stereotypical things going on in this anime but most of what happens is consistent with the time(s).

  1. Father freaking out as homemaker when wife works/has career
  2. Woman Nurse
  3. Backup dancers with scantily clad enlarged breasts
  4. Working man with phone glued to ear / never out of reach
  5. Obsessed videogamers

As the anime is set up as a silent movie. All the dialogue is written [props for the English translation of Japanese text] and inserted in its own shot.

As the story progresses the typical black and white/sepia tone changes and more color emerges.

The decision to progress the color scheme as the parents go on their journey isn’t all that visually impressive but it works as a parallel for the passage of time.

Basically this is an okay anime utilizing some interesting things [as listed above] but nothing stands out as all that impressive.

If you’ve got 13 minutes give it a watch.
