“What if the human race disappeared from this planet and left Godzilla behind, would it still be considered Godzilla then? - Metphies.

This movie picks up with a quick recap of the first two movies and is a nice refresher for those who’ve been awaiting the release of the next installment.

However, for the next 40ish minutes viewers are waiting for something to happen that is of actual interest. Basically it’s just talk, talk, talk, (exposition/exposition/followed by filler-talk) and then a weird scene between two characters where the girl wants, ya-know, and the guy’s like ? - viewers too - personally.

Thankfully the remainder of the movie is interesting and the visuals - return of Godzilla and the creature summoned by the cult - are great. The contrast between Godzilla’s dark appearance and the creature from another world’s dazzling light is a bit much for the eyes but it’s done to accent the difference between the characters and the astonishment the onlookers have while watching them fight.

The ending was in a way sweet but sad yet satisfying  - yeah, it’s complicated. Partly because it left unanswered questions - won’t get specific to avoid spoilers but yeah, I’ve got questions. Especially with the after-credit scene.

2 Overall messages:

1. People are easily manipulated. When it’s a choice between survival and death, people will do whatever they can to stay alive, even if that means giving into a power they could never understand.
2. "monster" is a label not fully understood. Just when you think you know what it is or what creature(s) should be labeled with the word, you learn something that completely wipes away your assumptions.

If you watched the first two movies then yeah you should check out the third - you're already pretty well invested - but if you haven't yet started this version of Godzilla you might save yourself some time, confusion, and dissapointment and watch something else.
