Baoh

Dec 25, 2022

How can a story have so many things I question and be enjoyable? Well this show fits in my unnamed category … perhaps “Oddly Enjoyable Stupidity”

Shortish overview: Ikurou is sold to an organization because she has powers, the same organization has a biological warfare experiment “Baoh”. The human test subject Sumire awakens as Ikurou is fleeing and the two become traveling companions. Assassins are sent to terminate Sumire, while Ikurou becomes an afterthought only good for becoming a hostage…. yeah despite her having powers/abilities she is overlooked and all attention is on the male M.C.

Why the animal cruelty? Why the Doberman slaughter? WHY?!

Well it happened; I am not happy. The canines were caged and ready to sink fans into flesh for their poor treatment, how are they handled? Bullets, bullets and more bullets. The sadness I feel is real. Why did I continue watching this… well yeah I cannot really say. Continue I did.

The story continues with highly questionable continuity and oversights that could get people harassed or even fired for their inattentiveness.

  • An assassin has time to cremate his targets, a furry friend and the witnesses. Yet he watches as the male M.C. steals a motor bike, driving away, down a mostly empty street.
  • Clothing repairs itself after a knife attack.
  • A knife slashes a throat, the wound and blood are not visible until the close up of the body on the ground.
  • The kidnapper was RIGHT THERE: Sumire could have done more than shoot quills/senbon.
  • Ikurou is denied water for 2 days, when she speaks her voice is not raspy.
  • Sumire  took days to find Ikurou
  • Internal thoughts are out of breath . . . because?
  • Lady assistant styles her hair, wears jewelry, yet does not color her nails.
  • Mr. “I-am-in-charge” expected the helicopter cyborg passenger to eliminate Sumire, yet two goons were waiting at the top of the cliff.
  • Sumire gives Ikurou, his blood. The bullet hole in her throat and blood on her face are gone as she revives – his blood was absorbed into her skin?

How did the creators not care about the jarring viewing experience when their goal should have been to entice an audience? I do not know. I could list reasons but I will not. I am nitpicking more than occasionally and one I start listing “eeeehhs” I tend to keep going. There were nice moments/elements:

  • Ikurou uncouples the train cars while her handler is preoccupied. She was interested in what/who was in the chamber but once that woman’s eyes were off her she was out of there.
  • Ikurou does not let the conversation become all about her on the bench, she responds to Sumire’s inquiries about where they were and is an active part of the communication – providing exposition without the “woe is me sob story highlight. I like that she does not monopolize the conversation or make him feel he has to say “sorry” about her life. He asked about where he was not where she came from. Granted the conversation was ‘cut short” due to the assassin’s presence.
  • Sumire crushes a wrist and white foam comes out of the disfigured opponent’s mouth. The first time Sumire melts a face I giggled. Why do I find such joy in physical assault? Well there are ooh so many people who deserve such treatment. Also the animation was enjoyable. That foam just sprouted right up that throat and the face shriveled then expanded and boom, I am now giggling typing about the scene. Oh it was good!
  • Sumire earned a nice long sleep in the refreshing, soothing ocean cushioned by the seafloor.

From the line that stands out to me the most {. . . Do watermelons “shatter” pretty sure the line should have been written and spoken as “smashed”) to the unpleasant memories brought up by the scene of the double car sideswipe. I enjoyed this.

There are many things in life that could be forgotten. And in the forgetting could be peace.

Having the quantity of things you would like to forget outweigh the number you want to remember can inspire suicide or survival.

Beautiful Credit Son: Tomorrows Smile for Yesterdays Tears.

I do not discourage a sequel.
