Boogiepop and Others

Jul 31, 2023

Boogiepop Phantom is one of my all time favourite anime, and when I heard they were making a new one I was very eager.

I made it through 4 episodes of this.

It's overly-complex in a way the rest of the franchise isn't. (I've read most of the light novels and watched the live action movie)

The art gets very lazy during some fight scenes.

I started watching it when it first came out in 2019. It is now 2023 and I'm listing it as Dropped.

And that hurts my heart.

Kanamewo

Well, I hated everything about that. From the seemingly selfish characters (Seriously that lovemaking scene seemed pretty rough) to the discordinant cacophony that passed for "music".

There are way better music videos out there.

Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal (2016)

Jul 3, 2016

I've been a Sailor Moon fan since '96 or so, when it just started getting big and back when your two choices for anime were Sailor Moon or Dragon Ball. I had posters, I wrote fanfic, I roleplayed, I made my own senshi, (SailorAnubis, which you can see in my profile header), I trolled and laughed at and with the fandom (Save Our Sailors Poptart campaign, Prince Uranus, Chibi-Usa's 7th...). I couldn't get into the manga though. Regardless, I was there, man.
I was there. I stayed up until 4am on the debut of Sailor Moon Crystal so I could watch it as soon as it was available. It was...ok. It took away what... See full review

Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal

Aug 19, 2015

I grew up with Sailor Moon. Sailor Moon was what fed my anime hobby. My friends and I dressed as Sailor Senshi for Halloween. My Anime-Planet banner is my fan-senshi beating up Sailor Moon! There will be SPOILERS! You have been warned. Pros: There's been debate about the animation. I liked it for the most part. I liked the choreography of the transformations, even if I didn't like the CGI. I actually bought Usagi and Mamoru's relationship more than in the original. It was...more believable somehow. Pluto! Black Lady (but...More on that below) Less filler. The Four Generals were lovers and suitors to... See full review

Corpse Party: Missing Footage

Sep 23, 2013

I am so pissed off.
Pissed off, and disgusted. I can't recall how I discovered the Corpse Party series, even though it was only about an hour ago, but I decided I wanted to watch it. Then I learned Corpse Party: Missing Footage came first, so I figured I should watch it first. Add to the fact it's recommended with one of my favourite anime ever, Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni mostly due to it's similar level of violence, I was all excited and stuff!

So I watched it.

The opening scene was effective. Too effective. I had to actually turn down my earphones because the sounds of crying and... See full review

Black Rock Shooter OVA

Dec 5, 2011

...Um...what?

I came across this anime by chance and decided to watch it since it was only an hour. Even at an hour it doesn't impress.

The animation was lazy and not very detailed. While the fighter girls had a bit more detail and the fight scenes were fairly decent any big epic moves were mostly at a far distance, therefore things like faces didn't need to be given a lot of attention. A lot of instances only seemed to have 4 or 5 cells on loop. Character designs were generic and uninspired. I've seen similar designs in many other anime. Many characters had a strange lumpy look to... See full review

Cat Shit One

Jul 20, 2010

I've been waiting for this anime ever since I saw the trailer. The trailer actually made me hunt for the manga which I eventually dropped. After about 10 minutes into this 22 minute war story I actually found myself forgetting that they were bunnies and that this was CGI, the characters or story pulled me in so thoroughly. The CGI was amazing, one of the best I had ever seen, the only time I found it a little imperfect was after an explosion and little pebbles didn't really have any definition, they were almost flat, or cell shaded. The characters... See full review

Shoka

May 18, 2010

What did I just watch? Granted I'm not a big fan of feudal Japan type settings but the premise of Shoka seemed interesting. Unfortunately I found myself constantly lost throughout this special. Plot points were made and dropped, even important sentences seemed to fade away without conclusion. I admire experimental styles of animation, but I found the colours muddy and I really didn't like the sketchy look of this anime. To be honest I find that I only truly enjoy that style when it's done by Studio4C. Considering art and creativity was an important plot-point in this anime, the execution felt very... Cencoroll

Nov 8, 2009

I spend a lot of time with webcomics, I used to blog about them, and submit them to various collective sites. A lot of webcomics were fond of using, what I've coined "Lie-cons", when their icon or banner has the most polished work and it makes the comic look amazing, and then you find out the image was just a character peice and the actual comic is drawn like crap. Cencoroll's trailer was like that.Cencoroll is the story of ...a kid...who has a pet monster for some reason, named Cenco. He can control Cenco with his mind. Another boy with another monster comes along and they fight because the other... See full review
