Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba

Mar 31, 2020

This is a good Shounen with excellent animation that incorporates camera movement in a 3d environment to create some really amazing action scenes (although the show is hand-drawn, not 3d animation). This is one of the best aspects of the show and one of the major reasons why it ranks so high. There is a lot of attention to detail that brings this story alive, from a character cringing its teeth to camera rotations and slight changes in color & art style to change the mood.  The other good aspect is the story... Children of the Whales

Mar 15, 2020

This is quite a hidden gem if you like unconventional stories and Fantasy. The story seems to have something to say and if I were to summarize the overall theme that will be dealing with Emotional Intelligence, contrasting different ways to deal with tough emotions and difficult situations. The world-building is very good with plenty of mysteries to unravel and the plot is one of revolution, and change the current system to gain a better life. This show received some harsh reviews and they seem to come from people that were... See full review

Cautious Hero: The Hero Is Overpowered but Overly Cautious

Mar 10, 2020

This is a fun deconstruction of the hero character, you know those heroes that always charge forward shining with hope & full of energy without giving any thought to strategies & tactics, and believing that they will win somehow. This show does a good job of pointing those moments and ironically, it brings some realism to how the situations should have been approached. I should say that this show is not for newbies, to really enjoy it to its full potential you should have seen quite a few fantasy shows first and be a little tired with the commonalities they share. The adventure itself is not... See full review

Dr. Stone

Mar 9, 2020

This show has received a lot of hype but in all honesty, it's not as good as they say, it's at least better than average due to it's focusing on science and excellent animation and production values. The show basically asks the question, if we will have to restart civilization from scratch, but with all of our current knowledge, what can we build and what will we prioritize? So we have a high-schooler with all the knowledge in the world like a MacGyver with a show that is closer to ... Sakurada Reset

Feb 22, 2020

This is a very intelligent show, it presents you with different thought experiments, theories, and value-process examples; they are all explained through the story arcs starting like a puzzle you need to solve in order to find the best outcome. This is beautifully done, while some explanations of the theories may initially seem unrelated when they are first told, those words are filled with meaning as you watch through the story. Unfortunately, although the plotline is not really that complicated, everything can be quite confusing as in order to really follow and appreciate it, you'll... See full review

L.O.R.D: Legend of Ravaging Dynasties

Feb 12, 2020

This movie has excellent animation, especially considering that it is 3d, the quality is really outstanding, including good camera work that moves in a 3d environment so you can see the action as the camera rotates from different angles. The action sequences are well-choreographed and the effects for their powers look awesome as well. However, the quality changes with some scenes looking incredibly realistic while others just like a 3d video game, overall, most of the movie is high quality. The sound effects & music are awesome as well, they complement the visuals very well, especially the... See full review

Kaze no Matasaburou (2016)

"Kaze no Matasaburō is a 1940 Japanese fantasy family drama, based on Kenji Miyazawa's 1934 short story of the same name." -Wikipedia This short OVA has excellent animation in a Studio Ghibli look-alike style and feel. Feb 7, 2020

If you want something different to watch, look no further, this movie is quite amazing and original from concept to mythology, and to the personalities of the characters. I was blown away by the journey, it has excellent world-building and an interesting philosophy which is presented as you get to know the characters and their world. It ponders many questions as you follow the plot, how far are you willing to go for the person you love? How much are you willing to compromise in order to fix your mistakes? What are the consequences? The themes are about the soul, the cycle of life and death, trying to fix... See full review

Psycho-Pass 3

Jan 12, 2020

This was quite a disappointment, after setting up the confrontation against the Sybil System in the past seasons now we got a huge time skip where everything that we wanted to see has already happened off-screen and we get no explanation why, and neither the full picture of what events took place. This series may be better understood as a spin-off that happens in the same world as Psycho-Pass with cameo appearances from past characters. It barely resembles Psycho-Pass, the intelligent deductions based on observations are now gone, replaced by a ... See full review

Kengan Ashura

Dec 26, 2019

This show is quite overhyped, even for people who love this type of tournament brutal fighting shows. It seems like a tone down remake of Baki, but lacking the character's motivations to fight, the ruthlessness, raw violence, and the weirdness and extremes of Baki's characters. I strongly recommend you watch Baki instead of this show if you want to enjoy something good. This story is non-existent, just a lame excuse to get characters to fight in a tournament. There is no character development, all characters that survive remain exactly the... See full review

The Empire of Corpses

Nov 18, 2019

This is a story about the obsession between life after death and ponders what would happen if the technology behind Frankenstein's would become mainstream, allowing humanity to create zombie/corpses to use for menial tasks (building an economy around this workforce), as well as soldiers for war. The story is not perfect, in fact, is quite a mess with some contradictions, plot holes, and unanswered questions, however, what it lacks in storytelling is certainly compensated with the creativity of the visuals that have a retro-futuristic look, as all of these events happen in an alternative... Satellite Girl and Milk Cow

Nov 2, 2019

This Korean movie is so out there that I really have nothing to compare it to, except to say is completely surrealist, it is just like a dream where you find yourself from one crazy situation to another one, without realizing the moment of transition, and you don't realize what you were doing until you wake up! It is not as crazy as movies like Trava or Hells Angels, but there is a lot of originality in the ideas for the... See full review

Patlabor WXIII

Nov 2, 2019

Although this movie is part of the Patlabor Series, it is only in name, as it barely has any relation to either the Patlabors or their characters, which only appear as a cameo and could have been replaced by any other robot or character, as their roles are non-essential for this story. This is more of a detective story in a sci-fi setting, but its executed very well, especially considering its time of release. It feels slow at times and if you watch a lot of sci-fi and detective stories, then the plot may... See full review

Attack on Titan - Watching Guide So, of course, this is a dark show with great animation, awesome non-stop action scenes with brutal fights, and thrilling dramatic moments, with a story full of mysteries and likable characters, which is why most people like it. Gangsta.

Oct 18, 2019

Let me start by noting that this is the final anime by Studio Manglobe before succumbing to bankruptcy, so the story is left incomplete in the middle of a battle with no end in sight. This is the main reason for complaints and bad reviews for this show. However, I think is still worth watching. The animation quality alone may be enough for some as it uses realistic character styles and a bright and sharp color palette. The story in... See full review

Chaos Dragon

Oct 12, 2019

This was a notable attempt, a show that presented good ideas but failed at their execution, still for followers of fantasy and dark stories this show may still be of some value. The story is probably the best part of the show, dark, violent & bloody. The characters possess great powers that more akin to a curse, as great sacrifices are required every time they use them, therefore we have this paradox where there is no clear way of winning, as even if they defeat their opponents, they won't get a satisfactory win. Unfortunately, the animation is in high contrast with the dark themes using... See full review

Midnight occult civil servants

Oct 1, 2019

The story and structure of this show is really nothing new but is well executed. Is very similar to Natsume's Book of Friends, the type of show that makes emphasis on the understanding of different cultures, personalities, and ideologies; using the Yōkai (supernatural monsters, spirits, and demons in Japanese folklore) as a simile for what the show is trying to say. The show is mostly episodic with a few stories spanning 1-2 episodes, but there is a progression done through character development, which is what keeps... See full review

Sep 15, 2019

This is a notable mention and a difficult show to rate. This show may only appeal to Baseball fans or people who really enjoy sports anime. The story is repetitive of other sports shows about going to The Nationals, however, this show offers the view from the perspective of one of those powerhouses where students live and have at their disposal all the equipment they need, they have to compete for their position on the team with other 2-4 students, the coach takes them out of play with 1-2 errors, etc. Usually, sports shows focus on the underdog team with no resources, so seeing the perspective... I was skeptical at first about this movie, thinking that it was just a film for children, but now I'm glad I gave it a try, as it turns out to be a hidden gem! This is a great story of motherly love, freedom and the laws of nature and contains lots of action through the plot that keeps everything moving and entertaining, but the story is deep, depicting very well the cycle of life and the sacrifices a mother makes to help their children succeed in life. This story starts slowly and may seem to ramble for the first 7 episodes or so, but bear with it, as these episodes are a setup for what's to come and everything has meaning in the story, even the background graphics that seem random, in fact, the way the story is told through the use of symbolism is what sets this anime apart from the rest and what makes it so great! This show demands your undivided attention to details as the foreground, dialog and background images converge together to tell the story, for example, as a girl describes how everything is going perfectly with her plans... This is a crude, brutal, harsh look at the reality of bullying and what could happen when kids are brought to the brink of their capacity to handle things on their own. And everything gets magnified by a society where social classes tend to protect the wealthy and automatically turn a blind eye to the unprotected.
