Crystal Sky of Yesterday

Sep 19, 2020

Chines Animation has come a long way, especially when it comes to movies. This is a good slice-of-life, but it will mostly appeal to people who love that genre. I'm not fond of it myself, but I still found it a good movie thanks to the animation alone, which is outstanding. It reminded me of The Garden of Words, although is not at that level of quality yet, however, considering the lower budget, I can only praise the animators for this quality work. They blend 3d... Saint Seiya: Saintia Shou

Sep 17, 2020

This show is ridiculously bad! So bad that perhaps it's good for the laughs! Honestly, I'm not sure how to rate this show, it completely misses the mark so much that it just becomes hilarious!  It works well as a parody, except that is clear there are no comedy tags and the creators were totally serious about the plot and mood of the show, but it's a parody all right! The story is a reconstruction of the original Saint Seiya story, but this time using girls in a ... See full review

Blue Exorcist OVA

Blue Exorcist - Watching Guide These are unaired episodes bundled with the 19th and 20th limited edition volumes of the Blue Exorcist manga. They are mostly slice-of-life and comedy, so only people that enjoy those genres may find them good. Don't expect much action. Starlight Promises

Aug 16, 2020

Not a great story, it's just average with nothing that makes it stand out from the norm. It just seems like a 1-hour tourist promotional commercial for the Tanabata Festival. They added some sci-fi elements to try to make it more interesting and to serve as an excuse to give the protagonists greater abilities, but they fail at delivering the graphics for such abilities, as the fights are unimpressive and it's just average animation for 2018. They insinuate the plot quite early so you can see the outcome of the story almost from the... See full review

Goblin Slayer

Aug 2, 2020

I'm writing this review to offer a different perspective on this show as I don't see other reviewers talking from this point of view. Quite often, shows in sci-fi & fantasy genres are used as an allegory to talk about ideas and expose social issues that they will be too difficult to discuss otherwise, and this way they can show you a different perspective from the point of view of different characters. So I think is always important to "read between the lines" and try to figure out what the show is trying to say. Goblin Slayer is a very violent show that uses the Goblins as an... See full review

Wo Shi Jiang Xiaobai

Jun 30, 2020

This is a romance story a little bit different from the norm. The author tried to create a very intelligent plotline based on coincidences, but not everything works perfectly, some events feel really contrived. They just added too many far fetch coincidences toward the end to make it believable, but I think the innovation of the story and the execution is really well done to make it worth your time besides the imperfections. I was very surprised by the excellent quality of the music. Honestly, the songs are a big part of what kept me watching, as the lyrics are made for the story and even... See full review

This is a hidden gem! I was quite surprised at the quality of the animation, despite using something akin to Flash Animation, the backgrounds are really detailed, the movements fluid and they did a great job of conveying scale by showing the action from afar and then zooming in on the interesting parts. The style is unique & completely different from what we are used to in Anime, but works really well with the mood of the movie and looks very artistic. It's like a... See full review

My Hero Academia

This anime seems to have many divided opinions, but almost no review explains why is good or bad, I'll give my point of view on this review and this will include all seasons. This is basically the equivalent of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in anime, showcasing the same kind of humor and action. Superpowers are appropriately called Quirks, and as such, they are particular for each character, with many looking goofy and... See full review

This show has everything you would expect from a sports anime. The matches have lots of intensity, characters go through hardcore training while trying to find their reasons for fighting, opportunities are created not just through hard work, but also through tactics & strategies, and respect is found when you display your full potential, even if you win or lose the match. The character personalities & development are what make this show enjoyable and worth watching. The characters have real-life struggles and there is good chemistry between all teams. Even the side characters make their... See full review

This show is quite different from the norm, a weird mix of horror, lots of gore, and comedy that borderline with the disgusting. In all honesty, it only does the gore well, the rest is just lukewarm, but what it does really good is the world-building that shows the incredible imagination of the author Q Hayashida, using detailed backgrounds and characters with a punk style, I not only find this world interesting but also one of the highlights of the show. Megalo Box

May 15, 2020

Megalo Box was created in commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of Ashita no Joe (Tomorrow's Joe), considered to be one of the most influential manga and a classic anime that has the honor of being the first about boxing as far as I know. Megalo Box reimagines the story in a sci-fi setting. I haven't seen the original yet, so I cannot compare it. But despite this being a show about boxing, the focus is not on the techniques and sometimes not even the fights, instead, it is primarily a show about... See full review

Violet Evergarden

May 15, 2020

This show is not for everyone, it is mostly about communication while using empathy in order to convey the meaning of what people feel, but often can't quite put into words by themselves. Violet represents different roles through her character: For one part she represents the children who have lost their childhood and with that, the ability to understand and convey their own feelings as well the feelings of others. She also represents the people who have been traumatized by war. And though her innocence, the point of view of little children that is yet to understand what they feel and how to... See full review

Well, this is not a perfect show but it's certainly not as bad as other reviews say it is, although I can understand their frustration with the show who ended at a really bad spot in the First Season, without knowing if a Second Season would be released. Since I had the opportunity to watch the show consecutively with the second season, I can say that the next part fixes a lot of the initial issues with the show. It is still not perfect, just slightly better than average if you like survival shows, this review will... See full review

Drifting Dragons

May 14, 2020

I love sci-fi & fantasy, they are some of my favorite genres and one of the reasons is that they often have parallels to real-life issues. When we bring these issues into the sci-fi/fantasy world we can see them and explore them from a different perspective, it allows us to talk about them and visualize what could be, what could happen if we were in a situation like this. You can visualize your choices and explore new ideas. This is actually one of the reasons why I watch so much anime! So in this regard, Drifting Dragons is essentially about whale hunting, the parallels are unmistakably from... See full review

Mutafukaz

May 14, 2020

Mutafukaz is just a fun, violent, and at times obnoxiously gross movie, that you may want to watch primarily for its animation style with an incredible amount of detail, an artistic color palette, and unique character designs. Created by Studio 4°C who loves to experiment with different art styles and crazy plots with unbound imagination. BLAME! Movie

May 14, 2020

Blame! offers one of the best and most intriguing settings in sci-fi, the concept of a Megastructure, that is, a structure so large that "At one point even the Moon, which used to be up in the sky above, was integrated into The City's structure". Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba

Mar 31, 2020

This is a good Shounen with excellent animation that incorporates camera movement in a 3d environment to create some really amazing action scenes (although the show is hand-drawn, not 3d animation). This is one of the best aspects of the show and one of the major reasons why it ranks so high. There is a lot of attention to detail that brings this story alive, from a character cringing its teeth to camera rotations and slight changes in color & art style to change the mood.  The other good aspect is the story... This is quite a hidden gem if you like unconventional stories and Fantasy. The story seems to have something to say and if I were to summarize the overall theme that will be dealing with Emotional Intelligence, contrasting different ways to deal with tough emotions and difficult situations. Cautious Hero: The Hero Is Overpowered but Overly Cautious

Mar 10, 2020

This is a fun deconstruction of the hero character, you know those heroes that always charge forward shining with hope & full of energy without giving any thought to strategies & tactics, and believing that they will win somehow. This show does a good job of pointing those moments and ironically, it brings some realism to how the situations should have been approached. I should say that this show is not for newbies, to really enjoy it to its full potential you should have seen quite a few fantasy shows first and be a little tired with the commonalities they share. This is a very intelligent show, it presents you with different thought experiments, theories, and value-process examples; they are all explained through the story arcs starting like a puzzle you need to solve in order to find the best outcome. This is beautifully done, while some explanations of the theories may initially seem unrelated when they are first told, those words are filled with meaning as you watch through the story. Feb 12, 2020

This movie has excellent animation, especially considering that it is 3d, the quality is really outstanding, including good camera work that moves in a 3d environment so you can see the action as the camera rotates from different angles. The action sequences are well-choreographed and the effects for their powers look awesome as well. However, the quality changes with some scenes looking incredibly realistic while others just like a 3d video game, overall, most of the movie is high quality. The sound effects & music are awesome as well, they complement the visuals very well, especially the... See full review
