Durarara!! - Watching Guide

The proper order to watch Durarara!!
1 Durarara!!

Durarara!!

Watch.

With an innovative narrative, fun music, and great characters, which are the cornerstone of this show, Durarara!! manages to create a show that feels modern, interesting and refreshing with a good balance of action, mystery, comedy and at the same time conveying social issues like suicide, gangs, social outcasts & acceptance.

This story is from author Ryōgo Narita, which is also the creator of Baccano!, which shares a similar style of storytelling & character personalities in a completely different setting.

"Durarara is a unique show that contains various characters, genres, and storylines. Just about every episode focuses on a different character perspective despite the fact the main protagonist is Mikado. The great appeal of Durarara is its diverse and colorful mix of personalities of numerous characters. Overall, this is by far one of the best animes I have seen in a while. I'd recommend it to anyone, no matter what their tastes are, since it has a bit of everything and an excellent cast of characters." -yoshina

"At first, it was kind of confusing but eventually everything ties together quite well. If you don't watch them back to back it might be tough to follow since so much happens in each episode. There is an intricate storyline with many characters that you get to see the perspectives of. It shows the thoughts and actions of each character through the show and all the parts of the story. It is amazing to see all the sides of a story and how everything had to happen in order for that instance to occur. I especially love the opening and ending songs through the anime." -taek1230

The dub is excellent!

2 Durarara!! Specials

Durarara!! Specials

Optional, but recommend skipping.

These filler episodes are not bad, just completely average and they don't advance nor add anything meaningful to the main story at all.

Comedy is hard to rate, after all, what makes some people laugh, it may just bore or even annoy another person.

3 Durarara!! X2

Durarara!! X2

Watch. Continuation of the story. (See note below)

4 Durarara!! X2: My Heart Is in the Pattern of a Hot Pot

Durarara!! X2: My Heart Is in the Pattern of a Hot Pot

Optional, but recommend skipping.

In Durarara!! X2 Episode 4, they decide to have a hot pot. This episode shows what happened during that meal. So watch right after Episode 4 of thereafter.

The episode is just filler average comedy, even perhaps, below average when you compare it to the quality of the rest of the show. Some people like it though and if you are a hard-core fan you may want to give it a try.

5 Durarara!! X2 The Second Arc

Watch. Continuation of the story. (See note below)

6 Durarara!! X2 The Second Arc: Onoroke Chakapoko

Durarara!! X2 The Second Arc: Onoroke Chakapoko

Optional, but recommend skipping.

This is set between Episodes 13 and 14 of Durarara!! X2 or between Episodes 1 and 2 of Durarara!! X2 The Second Arc, depending on how you are counting.

It depicts the shocking incident that occurs during Celty and Shinra's romantic trip together.

I found it below average, but again, a lot of people like it.

7 Durarara!! X2 The Third Arc

Watch. Continuation of the story. (See note below)

8 Durarara!! X2 The Third Arc: Dufufufu!

Durarara!! X2 The Third Arc: Dufufufu!

Optional.

This is set between Episodes 31 and 32 of Durarara!! X2 or between Episodes 7 and 8 of Durarara!! X2 The Third Arc, depending on how you are counting.

A bartender named Shizuo Nobusuma is mistaken by two thugs to be Shizuo Heiwajima for having the same first name despite his chubby appearance.

I found this episode funny, but still average in comparison to the rest of the show.
