Big Order

May 8, 2019

I watched the OVA before diving into this show and I feel that I was served something differently to what I had ordered. The OVA felt mysterious, with certain scenes being replayed but with different outcomes. Certain characters were shown in similar environments, giving you somewhat of an idea that it was more a spiritual journey. But... I feel the show struggles with what it actually wants to be and there is too much going on to really make it an enjoyable experience for the 10 episodes we were given. There are too many plot twists, too many situations that make no sense, every character wants to be the... See full review

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei Blu-ray Box Special

Apr 29, 2019

Murder mystery time with your favorite crew! The art and animations have never been bad in the show but there are some brilliant moments in this special. The last part of the episode has the characters singing, allowing the voice actresses to play around a little.

Big Order OVA

Apr 28, 2019

The teaser OVA episode for the 10 episode follow up and I'm not sure what's going on but I really like what I'm seeing so far. It really seems we can't trust anybody and there will be plenty of moments of betrayal. Art and animations look tidy with a mixture of well designed characters but also some over the top goofy ones. Definitely curious after watching that. And then it all starts to click! I see a Yuno Gasai clone... This isn't Future Diary 2.0 right? It is... oh lord.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kaku Outbreak

Apr 28, 2019

Another take on the 'what if' conceptbut this time it's a virus outbreak. I do like the idea behind it but it felt a little on the short side compared to the other story arcs. It's not as brutal as the first season but it was nice to see the bat and hatchet given some more screentime.

When They Cry: Rei

Apr 27, 2019

Only 5 episodes in this season and 2 of those episodes are fillers. We get a swimming pool episode and a story about gems that fall from the sky. The other 3 episodes focus on the 'what if' concept. It's not the best arc in the series but it does offer some light entertainment. I do feel it's a stand alone story that they've tried to connect to one of the other worlds but it really has no effect on anything we've seen in the past.

When They Cry: Kai

Apr 22, 2019

I've got mixed feelings about this season of When They Cry. There is a lot more focus on just tiding the story up and giving it the conclussion it deserves which does result in the show having a different vibe. The first season started out with a group of goofy kids and as the season progressed it become more violent and crazy. That same build up doesn't exist in the second season.  I wasn't too impressed with the animation style of the first season but the story made up for it. Season 2 seems to have been given a higher budget regarding the production quality but the show has also taken a more... See full review

Zoku Owarimonogatari

Apr 7, 2019

A year has passed since Araragi Koyomi’s life got turned upside down. Zoku Owarimonogatari allows us to reflect on everything that has happened while also allowing us to also see our favorite characters from a unique and different angle. Zoku Owarimonogatari is another visual masterpiece with plenty of cheeky dialogue, it's giving us everything that we want and love. There isn't another show like the Monogatari series out there and I'm glad we were given 6 more episodes to enjoy. Simply a gorgeous conclusion to the best series ever created!

The Quintessential Quintuplets

Apr 1, 2019

This was a five course meal; a soup, an appetizer, a salad, a main course and a dessert but only the main course and the soup tasted good. The appetizer, the salad and the dessert were far below the quality of the main course and the soup. The menu looked promising but it didn't quite deliver.

Boogiepop and Others

Mar 30, 2019

I really enjoyed the concept of supernatural beings affecting the balance of power and how a vigilante highschool girl and a highschool girl known as the reaper try to maintain that balance.  The world is painted as a very dark and gloomy place. Without the right people keeping a watchful eye, it could all go wrong very fast. In a few short stories we follow Boogiepop and Nagi, how they deal with the interactions between supernatural beings and mankind. The supernatural beings don't always have bad intentions and in sometimes mankind is much worse than any supernatural beings could... See full review

The Promised Neverland

Mar 29, 2019

A show similar to Made in Abyss where a group of young kids slowly become aware of how brutal reality is that they live in. The show does an excellent job in building suspense and it also manages to keep you on your toes, wondering who is really in control of this multilayered chess game. The animations are amazing and there is always something going on in the background which always makes you second guess if you're focussing on the right thing.. The show does a really great job in creating a very dark and gloomy atmosphere which will keep you feeling like something can happen at any time. The show does... See full review

When They Cry: Higurashi

Mar 28, 2019

It's hard to find good horror shows in anime. Either the shows struggle to maintain a good quality of storytelling (Future Diary), the plot twists just ruin the overall experience (Death Note), the characters go through a change that just makes them really unenjoyable (Death Note, Parasyte -the maxim-, Claymore), the cast gets ridiculous as the show goes on (GANTZ, Future Diary, Claymore) or the show turns into something completely different from it's opening concept (GANTZ, Elfen Lied, Parasyte -the maxim-, Deadman Wonderland). I watched Shiki right before When They Cry: Higurashi and I thought that Shiki... See full review

How Clumsy you are, Miss Ueno

Mar 24, 2019

I wasn't sure what to expect when I saw this show but the art looked cute and it gave me the idea it might be something relatable to the old Cartoon Network animation shows. I'd have to say that the first few episodes were really cringe worthy and it took me a few episodes to really enjoy it. Ueno like Tanaka, Ueno's best friend Yamashita plays the wingwoman and Tanaka seems oblivious to what's going on. A romantic setup that we've seen before... What makes this show stand out are the gizmos that Ueno creates. Most of gizmos have a functional use but because Ueno gets nervous but thirsty at the same time... See full review

Hi Score Girl: Extra Stage

Mar 21, 2019

It is kind of weird to have these 3 episodes as an OVA since they really feel like the season finale. Koharu get her chance to play against Haruo for a date, Oono walks back into the story as if she had never left and Haruo is is starting to show more feelings. So make sure you watch this after the first 12 episodes before you get started on season 2 when it comes out!

Shiki

Mar 19, 2019

Most horror shows and movies tend to focus on a small cast in a very small setting but Shiki managed to impress me the most with its approach on using an entire town in its storytelling. It is pretty crazy to see all these pretty unique characters interacting with each other and how their interactions change as the story progresses.  I will admit that the funky hair threw me off at the beginning but I do understand that it helps to recognize characters among this very large cast while also using it as a way to show an extra layer of emotions. The core of the story is put together extremely well... See full review

Zan Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei

Mar 13, 2019

I felt this season was a bit more over the place compared to the previous seasons. There first 2 seasons had more of a story element to the skits while addressing topics but that's been somewhat replaced with even shorter skits, like skits in a skit. Some of the girls have fallen out of flavor again or have turned back into a one line running joke while we are introduced to new faces that don't have the same kind of impact as the girls we already know and love. Kaere has become just the panty shot girl again, Mayo doesn't really make an appearance but the running joke of the dog with a stick up its butt... See full review

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime

Mar 11, 2019

The show did some great things in the city building department and we got introduced to some cool characters that do stand out but we never really dove into any of these characters so it really felt like a wasted opportunity. The show started to feel repetitive in the way it deals with problems and that was mainly because it didn't want to deal with controversy or add proper consequences. So we were left with a feel good show that didn't have any real stingers. The show tries to paint us a picture of how massive everything is in this world but it won't let us enjoy these environments, instead we spend... See full review

Kaguya-sama: Love Is War

Mar 11, 2019

The show has some well developed and bright characters who also share some great chemistry but I do feel the skits are a bit of a hit and miss however. Some skits will be excellent and memorable but there are also plenty of skits that are forgettable or will leave you scratching your head. But let’s be real, you only watch this show for the characters and the characters are all in contention for best character of the season.  I personally appreciate the animations a lot, a show that has mastered the horror/thriller elements in comedic situations.

K-On! Movie

Mar 5, 2019

There might not have been much of a story to the 2 seasons of K-on but the movie is a perfect ending to the highschool days of the Light Music Club band members! Most of the movie takes place in London, where the girls celebrate graduating high school. During their last days of high school they also look for an appropriate way to say thank you to Azusa since she'll be at high school for 1 more year.

K-On!!

Mar 3, 2019

K-on continues with it's feel good vibe but in comparison to the first season there is a bit more emphasis on the girls having to decide their futures. Also Azusa takes up the spotlight a bit more this season as she's the only girl that's not in the same class and won't graduate at the same time as the others. The animations are still gorgeous, the characters are still as bubbley as ever and their chemistry is still amazing as ever which really makes this show such an easy watch. Sawako, their teacher, still steals the show for me due to her trying to hide her metal past and becoming more of an... See full review

K-On!

Feb 1, 2019

K-On is a super sweet feelgood show with absolutely gorgeous animations and extremely entertaining characters. The chemistry is awesome and the whole vibe of the show is just super chill... but goofy. There isn't much to the story itself, it's just 5 girls who end up playing in a band at school and become close friends. Every episode the goal is to practice and get better but the girls will always find a way to distract themselves with other stuff. All the girls have their own insecurities but when they're together they just seem to forget their issues and have fun. I'm really impressed with the way the... See full review

Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend Flat

Jan 23, 2019

The first season was alright but the show relied heavily on its great characters because the story itself was pretty lackluster. During the OVA's that followed the show actually addresses these issues themselves, mentioning all its own strong points and weaknesses. Almost mockingly telling the viewer to expect more from the show in upcoming season. You'd think the show would try to step up its game after addressing these issues themselves and try to polish up the parts where it knew it was lacking. Well... They did. The first season felt rather playful with a few little hiccups but you knew that every... See full review

Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend Flat: Fan Service of Love and Pure Heart

Jan 23, 2019

In my review of the first season I made mention of how the characters are well put together but that the story of the first season felt a little lackluster. This episode aknowledges that itself. The cast has gathered at a swimming pool to dicuss its strengths and weaknesses. Each girl is then given some time to make a case forthsemves on why you should pick them as your main waifu of the show. It's cheesy but it works really well because the show just tells it how it is which I appriciate. This episode will be referenced a little bit in the opening scene of the first episode in season... Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend

Jan 21, 2019

The main concept of the show itself is pretty funny where the main protagonist wants to make a game based on an interaction that he had with a girl from his school, a girl that he doesn't know and never interacted with. He asks this girl to be his main heroine for his video game and she agrees. He also asks his 2 closest friends to help 'm out, one of them is a girl who draws kinky art and the other girl is an established writer. Both these girls have feelings for the main protagonist. The heroine girl doesn't really know how to express herself but agrees to basically try anything our main protagonist... See full review

Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches OVA

Jan 18, 2019

One of my biggest issues with the series was that the build up to the final scene of the show between Yamada and Shiraishi felt really weak. The last kiss of the show was suppose to be a special moment between Yamada and Shiraishi but it got outdone in an earlier episode by Yamada and Sarushima. Sarushima slips Yamada the tongue and the boy got quite excited about it. So I feel this OVA was a way to give Yamada and Shiraishi a second chance to atleast claim the best kiss/moment of the series. and I do feel the couple get what they deserve. Shiraishi runs in to kiss Yamada after she... See full review

Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches

Jan 16, 2019

So the concept of people having powers and being able to share them with others was quite cool. I do like the way that the powers work in this show but I personally felt it was just weird of implementing it through a kiss. So our main protagonist starts to get feelings for the first witch he meets but then keeps enjoying the fact that he can keep making out with other people. It really takes away from the 'magical moment'that the show tries to build up to. Eventhough the kids want it to be a special moment, it just really isn't anymore. My First Girlfriend is a Gal

Jan 14, 2019

Dorky main protagonist gets tricked into talking to the hottest girl at the school, he asks if she wants to date 'm and eventhough he thinks she'd reject 'm she actually accepts. We get the typical jealous girls throwing themselves at the main protagonist while he gets jealous of the boy who talks to his girl. The characters have their moments and even though My First Girlfriend is a Gal starts off with the idea that things will get very raunchy it actually remains pretty mild. The "worst" you'll see is a few panty shots and the girl nextdoor trying to sneak in a quick cuddle with the main... See full review

Hi Score Girl

Jan 14, 2019

I very much enjoyed Hi Score Girl as I'm one of those people that went through the golden age of gaming. I can easily relate to the main protagonist since I've owned and played on most of the consoles and games mentioned on the show. Very cool coming of age story where a young boy can't think of anything else but gaming and slowly starts to grow into a person who starts to care more for his friends and his future while his friends still keep dragging him back into the game world.  There is a nice little love triangle although it can be a little hard to follow since one of the girls doesn't say a...
