Umineko: When They Cry

Dec 25, 2009

What the hell? When it finished I only had a vague idea about what happened. The story jumped around constantly. It got really bad when Ange came into the show. They also did a terrible job at explaining things. It felt like the show was constantly contradicting itself. I really don't know what to say because I don't know what I just watched. I thought it was just a big mess. If I have to give the show one complement, it would be that the music was pretty good.

It might have been a good thing that I didn't play the visual novel. Even I could tell a lot of things were left out from them. So if I played them, it would have been an even bigger dissapointment. I would wait and wait to see how they do a certain event in the show, and then be dissapointed to see that they did not even put it in. Yet, I'm still dissapointed because I had high hopes coming from Higurashi. I loved those shows, so I thought this show would be the same. Boy was I wrong.

3/10 story
6/10 animation
7/10 sound
5/10 characters
4.5/10 overall

I'm watching this anime right now and I feel like i just walked into a middle of movie.  What the hell is going on.  I completely agree with you on the show constantly contradicting itself.

Did anybody else wanna punch the characters?  The constant evil laughter gets really annoying.. 30-40 percent of the anime is evil laughter..  I couldnt sympathize with any of the characters.. Battler was just useless and annoying..

i'm sorry but i found this anime to be completely boring and useless...  Its like watching a dog chase its own tail (seeing that would be more entertaining).  I'm really surprised that a lot of people like this anime.  I get it.. the horror genre doesnt have a lot of animes.. but still, this anime is way overrated.

good luck to anybody trying to watch and finish this anime.

Maybe the fact that only half the series has been released plays a role in your not understanding......  Lol, you don't know what's going on because the mystery is LITERALLY only half solved.  People have been bitching about DEEN and the Umineko adaption for a while, but it REALLY isn't that bad compared to what they had to work with........

I see that you're a Higurashi fan (as am I).  Even though they occur in the same universe(s) (spoiler), the rules of Higurashi DON'T apply to Umineko.  While watching Higurashi, you have a fair shot at figuring it all out before it's revealed, if you pay attention (I guessed it 90% correct when I was 25% of the way through).  Umineko, however, cheats on its VIEWERS just as much as it cheats on its characters.  It would be nigh impossible to guess the killer unless you decided to willfully ignore some scenes.  Message me if you want to know who it was.  You'll feel just as cheated on.  Still a decent series though.

You say a lot of times "dissapointed", but you dissapoint me :/

This anime was adapted by 'Studio DEEN', a terrible studio when we talk about adapting good or complicated stuff Dx.

The SOUND Novel of Umineko no Naku Koro ni is reaaally great, if you really would hope something from 07th Expansion, read its novel :/

Don't take it badly D: but stop getting dissapointed by its anime, and go read the SN to find the real thing O.o
