Puella Magi Madoka Magica

Apr 4, 2013

Story: I really love magical girl anime, its one of my favourite genres, so I thought I'd absolutely LOVE this anime- I had always wanted a more mature mahou shoujo to watch, then Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magika came along. But I finally got round to watching it, and my hopes were simply too high.  The story wasn't AWFUL- it just failed to fully attract and maintain my attention, with the exception of about 5 scattered episodes. The story in the first 7 or 8 episodes wasn't really about Madoka at all- it was about her friend Sayaka who becomes a Puella Magi, only for it to all go wrong. Whilst this... See full review

Kimi ni Todoke - From Me To You

Mar 26, 2013

Story: I'd been meaning to watch Kimi Ni Todoke for aaaaaages, I knew it was pretty popular as far as romance animes go, and I thought I would enjoy it, maybe I would find similarities to some of my favourite animes like Hana Yori Dango...But I think I put my hopes up too high. I was fairly dissapointed.  To put it plainly, Kimi Ni Todoke is one of them girly animes like Clannad or the like, where little happens in each episode. Overall the focus is on character development, but in terms of the physical storyline and people doing things, not much ever happens. Entire episodes would consist just... See full review

Full Moon wo Sagashite

May 12, 2012

Story: Prior to watching this anime, I had already read the manga of Full Moon and was very familiar with the manga. It takes a good manga to persuade me to watch the anime as well- usually I go for something different so I can hopefully uncover a new, shiny gem instead of just re-experiencing the same old story. But the manga of Full Moon was good, so I gave the anime a shot. The story was alright. But it came clear from both this and from prior opinions I've recieved of this anime, that fillers are abundant in this show. In a way I did see them as a necessity- time is an important part of this... See full review

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

Apr 20, 2012

Story: Haruhi Suzumiya has a very unique storyline- it wasn't completely what I was expecting, and quite frankly I don't think it even IS possible to know whats coming when you're a first-time viewer of this anime. The story was never dull in this anime, it flowed beautifully and I really can't think of any issues with it- perhaps I would have liked more romance to develop, but if there was too much emphasis on the stereotypical and the normal trentds of storlines, I guess Suzumiya just wouldn't be the same. Some episodes had amazing endings (Episode six in particular was AMAZING) The overall ending I... See full review

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (2009)

Apr 19, 2012

NOTE: I AM REVIEWING THIS AS A SERIES TWO OF THE ORIGINAL HARUHI SUZUMIYA ANIME. I WILL DO A SEPARATE REVIEW FOR THE ORIGINAL VERSION OF THE HARUHI ANIME :D  Story:  I was badly dissappointed with this part of this series of Haruhi Suzumiya. Firstly, there was the original 13 episodes of Haruhi Suzumiya from the previous season, with just a few extra tweaks added in. I won't pretend I watched all of these episodes- I didn't. But the ones I did watch were the same as I'd already seen in the prior season and I saw little point sandwiching them into a second season seemingly just to make it... See full review

Sailor Moon

Mar 30, 2012

Story: The story of Sailor Moon is one practically everyone knows. Its simple, its been over-used and its what some might call boring. But suprisingly enough, when watching it, its actually pretty interesting.  Sailor Moon has many different aspects to its storyline- the fighting the monsters, the romance and school life, theres something for everyone here. Of course, you could tell what was going to happen almost EVERY time, but it was entertaining noetheless. The whole romance aspect to this series of Sailor Moon was probably the best from the first 3 series'. Sadly, a lot of fillers were also... See full review

Blood: The Last Vampire

Mar 30, 2012

Story: Blood: The Last Vampire was a mixed bag for me- I have to say when I watched it, it wasn't as good as I thought it would be. I'd heard a lot of good things surrounding this anime, but it did not fulfil my expectations. The story of this anime is very, VERY vague and mysterious. Showing you what you presume is a normal, average stage in Saya the vampires life, it takes you through the stages of her job- killing fellow vampires. So many questions arose from this film, such as why is Saya killing off her own kind? Why is she said to be the last remaining ''original'' vampire? Who even IS she? But none... See full review

Sailor Moon R

Feb 28, 2012

Story: In comparison with the first Sailor Moon series, I found this one a bit of a bore, but thats not to say it wasn't good. The first story arc involves two new aliens, twins who fight the Sailor Senshi. This part only went on for about 13 episodes, so I felt there wasn't enough screen time for it actually to seem more than a quick little filler. As for the actual story, MiniMoon appearred. This wasn't good for me, Minimoon (completely unlike in Sailor Moon S) did nothing but annoy me. She would spend all her time getting in the way of the characters, causing mindless trouble and spend whole episodes... See full review

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kira

Feb 17, 2012

Story: I did not particularly like Higurashi Kira. I remember when Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni was notorious for its blood and gore, yet with each passing series it seems to get less like a horror and more like a hentai. These four episodes all have entirely separate stories to them. Episode one I LOATHED. The entire episode was Keiichi and the 3 old guys thinking of perverted, paedophillic things for all the female cast to do. It ws absolutely gross to see people like Oishii think up stories what inviolved Rika clean the windows in her school with just her butt, whilst people took photos, and to see Satoko... Yumeiro Pâtissière

Feb 10, 2012

Story: Prior to watching this, I had only ever read one cooking manga- Kitchen Princess (Which was absolutely stunning) so I was slightly worried that this anime would look slightly bad in comparison. My worries were proved valid.  The first few episodes of this show did indeed remind me a lot of Kitchen Princess, I had high hopes for this series. But then after about episode 5 ALL THE WAY to episode 50 almost all of the stories were filler, filler, filler. I have NEVER seen so many fillers in a series all my life. Even the actual story seemed like filler, since it is so simple, predictable and... See full review

Naruto

Feb 8, 2012

Story: Naruto's story is pretty simple as far as shounen stories go- yet I still found it pretty interesting and well narrated. All throughout this 220 episode series there were various story arcs, all containing different problems for Naruto to fix (or not be able to fix, as the story progresses) I wouldn't say the story was absolutely amazing, but it deserved some credit- theres a reason why Naruto is so popular. Sadly, an issue I found was ther series length. I'd had a lot of hesitation before watching this anime for its length. I find a 50-episode anime timely to watch, forget a 220 episode one... Naisho no Tsubomi

Jan 30, 2012

Story:  Naisho no Tsubomi is a story what was written in a wrong way. The topics are all about pregnancy, sex and periods etc etc. (puberty, to sum it up) yet, through all the fairly vulgar subjects, it remains aimed at children of about eleven years old. This, of course, leads to these younger people being told by their parents ''No!! You shouldn't be watching that!! Go watch your 'My Little Pony' DVD again dear!'' and no one is left to watch this other than teenagers and adults. And will they enjoy watching this? I cannot help but feel: No. I found this storyline pretty boring, I couldn't even... See full review

Vampire Knight

Jan 22, 2012

Story: Vampire Knight's story may seem like a typical romantic reverse harem with vampires added in just to create lots of fan-girls screaming in glee, but it can't be knocked. Vampire Knight is more than that. The story of Vampire Knight is very interesting, always narrated exceedingly well and has plenty of plot twists what keep you guessing.  Already reading the manga, personally I found the anime slightly rushed, but I think for the anime it worked quite well. However in saying that, I must confess I DO prefer the manga.  Animation: The animation in Vampire Knight could frustrate me. Close... See full review

Nyoron! Churuya-san

Jan 17, 2012

Story: Nyoron Churuya-san is one of the oddest animes I have ever seen. It actually takes the mickey out of the show it is from. Its....odd O_O Each one of these 2 minute episodes is a short story about Churuya on her quest for smoked cheese. I did not find these particularly entertaining to watch, but two or three episodes were fairly good and they did get a few odd laughs out of me. Just a few. Sadly, the remaining eight or nine of these episodes remaining did nothing for me. I found them dull, uninteresting and, to be quite frank, pointless. I think as a whole this whole series WAS pointless. It in no... See full review

K-On! Ura-On!

Jan 16, 2012

Story: K-On! Ura-On! is a selection of short 3 minute extras based on the original series of K-On! Each one had an unique story, one about the cast being stuck on a deserted island, one when they all discuss Mio's panties etc etc. I didn't find these of particular interest, I was glad when they were over. Yet despite this I DID find myself laughing out loud 3 or 4 times throughout this series, it was ok. But the stories are more for a diehard K-On! fan I'd say. Animation: The most goddamn awful animation I'd ever seen. I just give it a 3 because the use of colour was ok and the majority of the... See full review

Digimon Movie 4: Diaboromon Strikes Back

Jan 15, 2012

Story: In this particular story of Digimon, Diaboromon (from the second film) has returned and now it is up to both all the Digidestined from series one and series two, as well as other Digidestined spread all across the world, to take him down. I thoroughly enjoyed this film, but was a little dissappointed with how spread out it was. All the characters split up into groups of twos or threes to travel to various destinations across the world and find other foreign Digidestined to team up against Diaboromon. Although I enjoyed seeing such a diverse amount of characters present, the fact that there were... See full review

Digimon Movie 3: The Golden Digimentals

Jan 15, 2012

Story:  Digimon Movie 3 is the first film of this franchise to showcase the Digidestined from series 2 of the anime. The story essentially follows a boy called Willis who, with help from the Digidestined Davis, T.K, Kari, Cody and Yolei, tracks down one of his Digimon and helps it recover from an evil virus taking it over. Although this is a good film, there were a lot of plotlines which weren't properly addressed. Many coincidences took place and unbelievable events what were just unlikely to be done in real life. Some parts of the story were unexplained, which slightly ruined it for me as I had... Save Me! Lollipop

Jan 14, 2012

Story: Mamotte Lollipop could have been really, really good. But its misleading, predictable story and repetitiveness stopped it from being the best of the best. Sure, its a nice show for pre-teen girls but anyone older who can tell apart a good story from a bad one will NOT like this. Episode one of this anime admitedlly WAS very good. After the first episode I had high hopes for this series, but being able to only manage 5 more episodes I was very let-down by Mamotte Lollipop for several reasons. Problem One: All the episodes had exactly the same thing happening again and again and again. In every... See full review

Digimon Movie 2: Bokura no War Game

NOTE: AS A DIGIMON ADDICT MY REVIEW IS LIKELY TO GIVE VERY HIGH MARKS. FOR ANY PERSON WHOM IS NOT PARTICULARLY A DIGIMON OTAKU THEY WILL PROBABLY GIVE THIS A LOWER MARK OR AROUND 7 OR SOMETHING. Story: This Digimon story is set about 2 years after the television series of Digimon 01. In this movie of about 50 minute length an evil Digimon takes over the internet and its the original group of Digidestined to save the world as missiles head to earth and the world of electronics runs wildly out of control. Digimon Movie 1: Digimon Adventure

Jan 11, 2012

Story: First off, this isn't really a movie. Its more a fifteen-minute short telling us how Digimon really started. This isn't the most interesting of the Digimon films. But, at such a short length I suppose it can't really pave way for a superb storyline. Tai and Kari, only about 5 or 6 at the time of said incident, come across a Digi-egg. Soon to hatch from it is Koromon- but take note: This is NOT the Koromon from Digimon Series One what Tai befriends. This one is somewhat less intelligent, less friendly when digivolved and much more troublesome. Overnight Koromon then digivolves to Agumon, and, with... See full review

GANTZ

Jan 11, 2012

Story: The story of Gantz is an interesting one. I will admit that. A group of people faced with death are abruptly thrust into a room with a large black orb called Gantz. These people are then charged with killing aliens, a deed what will not go unrewarded, as the person who gains the most points in doing so gets a prize. The first episode of this I found very interesting, I was hoping for people dying, limbs flying, everything what titles such as Higurashi and Elfen Lied had drawn me in with. However, I had two main issues with this series what ruined it for me, making me drop it so early... See full review

Chu-Bra!!

Jan 4, 2012

Story: Chu-Bra!! is essentially just an ecchi-fest for all us perverts in the world, it tells the story of a girl called Nayu, who happens to trip up one day of school and reveal her black adult undies to the whole school. From this incident it is revealed to a select few students that Nayu is in fact, an underwear model of sorts, her older brother and grandma both design undies what she tries out. I'd find this acceptable if they designed undies for children; however I do NOT deem this acceptable if she tries out thongs, string panties and all manner of sexualised undies. As this story goes on Nayu... See full review

Clannad

Jan 1, 2012

Story: Despite giving it a rating overall of an 8, I have to say I was still dissappointed with how Clannad played out. I knew what the general gist of the story concerned, but sadly I found watching Clannad to be a bore.  Tomoya Okazaki stumbles accross a girl by the name of Nagisa Furukawa- and over the duration of this anime he helps her to get the drama club set up. Clannad is a bit like The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya in this respect, as it mentions a club, yet soon the club is forgotten and other stories take centre stage, however, unlike Haruhi Suzumiya, the stories what take place in... Hatsukoi Limited: Limited Girl

Dec 27, 2011

Story: NOTE- I HAVE NOT WATCHED THE ORIGINAL HATSUKOI LIMITED, I READ A BIT OF THE MANGA BUT DROPPED IT AFTER TWO VOLUMES. So then, Hatsukoi Limited: Limited Girl is......pervy. Thats one way to explain it. But it was fun to watch. Cut into 6 short 5 minute or so episodes, this tells the story of a girl (Saoko or something?) who goes to school, then realises shes forgotten to wear any panties, so up her skirt is a shockingly naked hairy-mary for the whole of the student population to see. School Rumble

Dec 22, 2011

Story: School Rumble is a lot like any other slice-of-life anime out there; from the likes of Lucky Star to Azumanga Daioh, but this one focusses less on school-related simple humour, and instead uses the characters and them alone to create funny, coincidental stories where no plot is needed. Straight away from episode 1 you are introduced to Harima, a delinquent who looks like he's from some kind of biker gang- and he has a crush on poor little Tenma, which is funny enough. But then Tenma is revealed to have a crush on none other than Karasuma, who we expect is a really hot and amazing guy, yet is... See full review

Elfen Lied: In the Passing Rain

Dec 19, 2011

Story: Usually when I write reviews for OVAs I use this time to just rant about how the story is pointless and is nothing but 20 minutes of fan-service, but this particular OVA was just as good as the actual series of Elfen Lied, if not better. Set in the middle of the Elfen Lied TV series, this OVA depicts Nana's daily life in Kouta's house as she learns to deal with living in a typical(ish) Japanese household. The part of it talking about Nana was funnny, and a nice release after all the hightened seriousness of the TV series of this anime, it actually WAS humourous too.  Then there was the second... Dec 17, 2011

Story: I watched this because I was looking for a funny romantic comedy, and it must have been a long time ago when I watched this- I was very new to the anime scene. But even then I could tell after a mere 3 or 4 episodes that this anime showed little to no promise. The story tells of a man who cannot teach at a school because its an all girls school. So what does he do? Why, he dresses up as a woman of course! Yes the premise was mildly amusing at first, but episode upon episode was exactly the same, dull, dry humour what fell flat and left me devoid of anything good to say about it. Animation... Story: This film just irritates me to the point of insanity!!! D:< and why? Because it started off so good, but then it turned utterly RUBBISH, then it improved again for about 20 minutes at the conclusion then suddenly got a really awful ending. The first hour or so of this film is just Taeko looking back on her life as a child- I found this part to be immensely interesting, way better than any other Ghibli film I'd ever seen and I was thinking to myself how I was gonna rate this 5 stars- it was so cute and sweet. Beyblade

Dec 17, 2011

Story: The story of Beyblade is just a typical young boys anime, but I found it quite a deal more interesting than Yu-Gi-Oh! or Pokemon, because instead of just mindless fighting and aiming to get to be the Master of Poemon or Top Duelist in the world, in Beyblade there are lots of mini-stories mixed up in it as well, which gives Beyblade more of an air of being more for maturer viewers instead of trademark target audience of 7 and 8 year old boys.
