The Cat Returns

Dec 28, 2020

The Cat Returns is an anime I'd put off watching for the longest time, despite being a popular anime from the great Studio Ghibli, it didn't look like something that would interest me and I had images of me dropping it after 10 minutes. That coupled with the fact I'd want to watch Whisper of the Heart first and again, it's not an anime I thought I'd enjoy. Well today I spent a few hours watching both, I was right about Whisper of the Heart, it was nice, a good Ghibli anime but not something I'll be rewatching. The Cat Returns, however, was something I really enjoyed. The story was great, very similar to A... See full review

Angel Beats!

Aug 20, 2019

Contains spoilers. Angel Beats! is an anime I've heard so many great things about, it's actually one of the anime's I'd heard of pior to my weeb life, alongside classics such as Death Note, Bleach, Pokémon etc. so I went into this with rather high hopes of a fun-packed unforgettable watch.  Although hearing many people praise this for years, I actually didn't have a clue what the storyline was before watching this and the main reason I'd put it off for so long was because I thought it was a music-focussed anime about a girl-band, not something that peaked my interest.  After seeing it... One-Punch Man Recap

Apr 28, 2019

The recap is narrated and goes into the various arc's throughout the first season of One Punch Man. Well worth watching before season 2 so you refresh your memory on some aspects you might have forgotten about and saves rewatching the first season. This recap doesn't cover any of the OVA/Specials.

Cosmic Fantasy: Ginga Me Hyou no Wana

Apr 7, 2019

Disclaimer 1: Watched this as part of DTAB so went into this expecting it to be really bad. Disclaimer 2: Watched this with some amateur (but amazing) subtitles. Disclaimer 3: I've never played the video games that this was based on. Cosmic Fantasy: Ginga Me Hyou no Wana may have been released in 1994 but it felt more like it was from the 80's than the 90's. Quite poor production quality and a strange mix of characters. Based on a video game, the OVA was watchable and made sense for those like myself who haven't played the games, the characters although random were set at the beginning of the... Captain of Cosmos

Apr 7, 2019

Potential spoilers ahead. Disclaimer 1: Watched as part of DTAB (Damn that anime is Bad) so went into it expecting a bad anime. Disclaimer 2: We watched the English dubbed version rather than original Japanese. Captain of Cosmos is a difficult one to review, it's not like any anime I've watched before and being from 1979 my rating of 2/10 for animation is potentially unfair giving the technology however if you're watching it in 2019 like I was, it's a 2/10. So many frames were re-used, the animation is limited due to the year it was made. However it wasn't unbearable. With regards to the sound, the... See full review

She and Her Cat

Mar 30, 2019

Didn't realise how short this was until I hit play. She and her cat is a very inviting, alluring anime and well worth the watch during your coffee break. You'll be taken through the story by a special narrator (not the owner) and he'll describe his love and feelings towards her. It's a very emotional story and very well written, you'll not regret watching it!

The Quintessential Quintuplets

Mar 30, 2019

The Quintessential Quintuplets is a set in high-school where Futaro Uesugi, a well performing student with excellent grades stumbles across five sisters who need a tutor. With his family struggling and in debt, Futaro makes it his mission to be the best tutor and help the girls through high school. Of course, this isn't going to be as easy for Futaro as he'd hoped as he's met with 5 very different personalities, but 5 almost identical twins, all of whom aren't too keen on being tutored. We follow Futaro as he learns more about each sister, with some episodes focusing more on each relationship built... See full review

Grave of the Fireflies

Feb 3, 2019

A classic I've been meaning to watch for years, completely different mood to most of the Ghibli movies I've watched and definitely the most emotional. Despite not having too many characters, as usual Ghibli has given a unique soul to each of them. This is an anime that will tug at your heart strings from start to finish. I went into this expecting to shed a tear, what I didn't expect was to have a sustained cry through the evening as I kept repeating various scenes from the movie. It made me think of family, it made me think of war, past originally and then even the present ones and how despite this movie... See full review

Pokemon Movie 20: I Choose You!

Feb 3, 2019

Something I've dropped a couple of times after watching the first five minutes and thinking "Why watch this when I've already seen the original anime and will probably prefer it", well after giving it a chance, I was wrong. Very good nostalgia trip for those who grew up with Pokemon and I'm sure the younger generation will love it too with it's modern twists. A new look at the original story, even if you've seen the original series, it's different enough that you'll not know what is round the corner.

Rainy Cocoa

Jan 10, 2019

Watching Rainy Cocoa is like being a fly on a wall inside a cafe. You're watching and listening to the daily life of pretty average people, desperate to escape but you just can't work out how to fly back through that gap in the window you came in. The story is poor, the characters are poor but the episodes are short so I stuck it out. Now unless I can find that open window, onto series 2.
