Most Adult Oriented Rated R Level or above Anime

These are the most adult oriented, inappropriate for children, pornographic, violent, mature themes, or most filled with sexual situations/suggestions of all anime that I have seen at least one episode. All shows here are probably inappropriate for any child under high school and many are probably only good for adults only. I think changing this list to this title covers more ground than simply Saying “intended for mature audiences only”.
51 K: Return of Kings

K: Return of Kings

The very connection to swords of Damocles itself make season one and two of K a bit more on the mature side.  There is combat magic that causes serious injuries and death to consider as well.  Other rather mature themes include natural or unnatural disasters and survivors and gang like warefare.

52 K

K

The very connection to swords of damecles itself make season one and two of K a bit more on the mature side.  There is combat magic that causes serious injuries and death to consider as well.  Other rather mature themes include natural or unnatural disasters and survivors and gang like warfare.  Season one is a bit more like the fugitive movie where everyone is trying to kill one person in a lynch mob kind of way irregardless of actual guilt or proof.  Season two focuses more on a kind of gang warfare though there are gang warfare overtones in both seasons.

53 Spiritpact

Spiritpact

I am not one to judge sexual orientation but when a show makes such a choice seem a bit creepy or graphically overt, then I have to at least point that out.  This show does both even though at the same time the main character is commited to straight marriage and the other man is actually a dead spirit.  Ya that alone makes it a tad bizarre and creepy but the way they cast the scenes make it look like a Jehovah's witness or vacuum cleaner salesman visit is a blessing.  It is the sort of thing that make the Cleevers look normal.  There are several situations or scenes where a intimate relation or interest is strongly suggested but it is always done in way that make you want to expell your lunch.  Some of the ghosts are underaged looking killers.  The situations depicted are a bit mature in general.  In all fairness, it is rare I have come across a series that did not somehow make any same sex intimate interest look creepy as if they can never figure out how to do it right.  Mikuragi Suite is one of the few that while stalkerish creepy is good because it is done in a fun innocent friendly way.

54 Charlotte

Charlotte

Some people in this story have magic which is somehow tied to a temporal fate sort of thing.  However, use of magic seems to have consequences or mutilating injuries as a result of some serious graphic magical combat.  There is at least one scene of kidnapping.

55 Shiki

Shiki

Is the lure of evil strong?  When one innocent girl turns to the dark side to grant her wish of her crush has she gone too far?  Imagine Salem's Lot with David Soul except with much more violence and graphic scenes and a less happy ending and you will have Shiki.

56 Princess Jellyfish

Princess Jellyfish

This does not really show much in the way of bad language or violence or sexual situations but it does explore a rather mature theme of gender identity. This isn't a bad thing but it maybe a bit trying to explain to young children too soon and some of you may not feel comfortable with that.

57 Okamikakushi: Masque of the Wolf

Okamikakushi: Masque of the Wolf

This series main essence is sort of a weird cult of psychopaths who believe themselves to be werewolves but actually are not.  They spend their thrills hunting down anyone who strays from the pack as it were or tattles on their existence then tearing them apart or hacking them to death.  It is not the most pleasant thing to watch and certainly not intended for younger aged viewers.

58 Shakugan no Shana

Shakugan no Shana

Shana is not so much dealing with the normal issues that earn a Seinen tag but it's closeness to understandings of death and afterlife make it a bit heavy for most children.

59 Goblin Slayer

Goblin Slayer

Goblin Slayer gives an atrocious first impression. Yes, it improves a little later on, but the first episode especially is one of the most sadistically brutal, cruel, violent, extreme, bloody, and pointless single shows I’ve ever seen. Be prepared because this show depicts extreme bloody violence and scenes of rape. Some adults will even struggle to handle this series. It gets a wee bit better in later episodes and eventually even has some actual character development for characters other than the redshirts. I don’t know if I can in all honesty raise the rating because of how crappy and pointless episode one was plus how little development the main character gets. The new party actually gets more than either the two leads. The childhood friend and the sword maiden also get more and they aren’t even in the show that much. Frankly, I’d rank episode one alone as one of the worst of all time, and not just cause of the violence but how little foundation it has other than a link to the past but no support to explain said behavior. Worse, if they were so bad even idiot noobs would be vaguely aware of the danger. And given the fact that first group had more attention and character development than anyone in the entire series for nearly half the season isn’t a good thing.

60 Another

Another

Yes this was a violent ghost horror story ala Dangarompa style.  Not for the faint of heart.

61 Valvrave the Liberator

Valvrave the Liberator

Valvrave is supposedly about vampires who can pilot mechs.  Ya it almost sounds comical but some of the themes and incidents are not.  The 'disease' can make individuals with it lose control and even attack friends and allies as easily as they attack enemies.  It even includes scenes of forced sex/rape yet it is an event caused not by will but by the 'disease'.  It still is likely dealing with themes too extreme and adult natured for most younger viewers.

62 Arifureta: From Commonplace to World's Strongest

Arifureta: From Commonplace to World's Strongest

There’s a high level of graphic violence depicted in this series especially early on, for example, a character gets a limb torn off.  It may not be the worst for violence or adult content but it has enough that caution should be taken when viewers might not be optimized for handling it.

63 GANTZ

GANTZ

This is another show with strong mature themes dealing withthe after life and attempts at rape.  It is not for the young or faint of heart to watch it.

64 Bokurano

Bokurano

Bokurano is easy to sum up why it is not appropriate for underaged kids. Children in this series are subjected to many horrors such as rape, abuse, murder, death, and trauma.

65 Bungo Stray Dogs

Bungo Stray Dogs

From kidnapping to murderous loli girls, there is alot in this series that screams adult themed nature and maybe well beyond just any viewer or age range to handle.

66 Hand Shakers

Hand Shakers

Lolita, check, sexually suggestive, check, bdsm, check, porn well, it pretty much scrapes along the edge of porn. Right off, you see a creepy chain wielding bdsm master rubbing the crotch of his female slave girl with his foot and grinding it while she is in a collar and wrapped in chains. That alone should tell you, this is not for kids. The main character looks like he is a 5th grader but his voice would make any 30 year old man proud.

67 Hitori no Shita: The Outcast

Hitori no Shita: The Outcast

Outcast is about zombies and a perverted twisted psychopathic sadist forcing her extreme bad habit hobbies on innocent victims.  I would not recommend to just anyone to watch especially children.

68 Date a Live

Date a Live

The main character is a shy video game player who is forced by an evil government organization to be a playboy and trick or woo female deities and powerful magical females from other dimensions and worlds into falling in love so he can prevent them from taking out their pmsing frustrating attacks on the innocent civilians of our world.  Exposing children to a philandering playboy story is not the wisest or most mature move.

69 Vandread

Vandread

Vandread is a funny series but it has very strong LGBT themes that may not be comfortable for all to bear.

70 Night Raid 1931

Night Raid 1931

Night Raid is a look behind the scenes of a war torn China with Japan in an alternate world pre WWII setting where Japan has blonde guys among other things.  The twisted personalities in the story might be a bit strong for all viewers.

71 Beyond the Boundary

Beyond the Boundary

Here we have a series about a monster human hybrid that is nigh invulnerable and immortal but that does not stop a sick twisted bitch from constantly torturing him as she tries to kill him.

72 Darker than Black

Darker than Black

Darker than Black season one and two is another series about magical combat that shows some pretty graphic combat scenes and violence such as broken fingers or people getting cut or blown up.

73 Darker than Black: Gemini of the Meteor

Darker than Black: Gemini of the Meteor

This is supposedly season two of darker than black but focuses on a new character while an old favorite is relagated to the background in the role of a washed up loser type.  It still has some pretty graphic scenes and violents and mature adult themes such as the girl being a loner orphen type forced to fight a war or for her life.

74 Dororo (2019)

Dororo (2019)

The show isn’t horrible but is brutally violent and also depicts scenes of rape and mutilated babies. You might wanna prepare your stomach.

75 Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic

Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic

The other seasons of Magi do not offend quite as much as season one does in the vein of showing gratuitous nudity and suggestive scenes, even though the main characters are probably underage.

76 Genshiken: Second Generation

Genshiken: Second Generation

This series among other things brings realistic believeable concerns about gender dysphobia in at least two characters.  One crossdresses and even has a second personality but his reasons are though a bit vague have nothing to do with actually liking crossdressing and the other plays down her feminity so much you might wonder if it is beyond just being a tomboy and if she has other sexual preferences.  It does a good job of tossing the question of gender around along with a few other more interesting and adult themes however.

77 Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress

Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress

This zombie wanna be series with an Attack on Titan attempt at a comparable story falters in some regards and fails to capture the same kind of zeal and originality as Titan.  It fits on the list because it has alot of graphic scenes, violence, mutilations, and brutality that not everyone will be able to handle.  Other side themes include prejudices and betrayal.  Lots of humans and zombie like creatures end up slaughtered in some of the most gruesomely gory ways ever shown in an anime.

78 Blade Dance of the Elementalers

Blade Dance of the Elementalers

One of the first scenes in this story says it all why it is on the list.  The lead character walks in on a woman bathing in a pond near what is essentially an all girls school.  Yep, this looks a bit like another harem ecchi fest.  Yes, I watched the entire series though I am waiting for new seasons.

79 Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash

Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash

As usual, there is plenty of violence and gore in this series but what sets it a bit apart is how strongly it deals with death and losing friends or loved ones.  It brings that kind of traumatic experience home and that maybe too much or too soon for some viewers.

80 Photon: The Idiot Adventures

Photon: The Idiot Adventures

Aside from General nudity and sexual situations, this anime features scenes like: a schlong wrapped in bandages waving around; full breast shots; full nudity (at least briefly); and a few not so family friendly jabs in humor.

81 revisions

revisions

Early in the series, we see a high school girl squished into meat paste and kids standing around a dead body.  I say, this show has a bit of a graphic violent streak.

82 Big Order

Big Order

Watching this I get the feeling like a nazi facist created it.  One character wants to dominate and recreate the world as he wishes it in the same kind of arrogant, selfish, better than thou way nazis wanted to do.  So if you want your child to have a big swelled head and delusions of the world so they won't be prepared for it and like a spoiled two year old may think they will get everything they wish as if they owned the world then you may not mind this series.

83 This Ugly Yet Beautiful World

This Ugly Yet Beautiful World

The adult nature here is a bit subdued but when one deals with a threat to the end of the world, it is automatically a serious subject.

84 Hayate the Combat Butler!

Hayate the Combat Butler!

An underaged child is hunted by debt collectors for something his loser irresponsible parents did and to escape he ends up as a virtual slave for a selfish arrogant bitch who treats him like a toy in the way a sadist would.  It is not a healthy relationship and I do not believe she ever read SSC bdsm related rules either.

85 Demon Lord Dante

Demon Lord Dante

Oh nudity, sex, sexual situations, extreme violence and spiritually offensive views of religion are but a few reasons this deserves listing.

86 Absolute Duo

Absolute Duo

The main reason this is on here is you have a loli girl who is forced to room with a boy.  I think I don't need to say anymore.

87 Orange

Orange

Orange is a drama dealing with hard issues like suicide, death, family tragedy, intervention, support (through trying times), and even to a degree self sacrifice (since several characters give up something important or take risks to help someone).  These maybe too intense issues for some children, especially younger ones, to deal with.

88 Gleipnir

Gleipnir

Aside from a high level of violence and graphic scenes, this show also has characters undressing frequently or even naked though it maybe hard to see (they are naked sometimes), it has suggestive scenes such as what is implied before fights when “getting inside”. If you listen to the dialogue while characters are inside, it’s hard not to understand the studio or characters didn’t know what such verbal exchanges suggested.

89 The Rising of the Shield Hero

The Rising of the Shield Hero

I like this anime a lot but I feel compelled to add it for its violence and suggestions of rape.  It isn’t as dark or strongly displayed as some but it’s there nonetheless.

90 Angel Beats!

Angel Beats!

This series features violence and has mostly high school age characters.  The nature of the violence is deceptive as it is later revealed there's a connection as to why they wind up together.  While it is violent action, it is fairly tame compared to some show but still be prepared that if does contain such scenes.

91 Ajin: Demi-Human

Ajin: Demi-Human

This series is more realistic rendered than most and with the depth and shading added it is pretty realistic looking.  This series has violent death scenes and many characters do die, some do so fairly graphically.

92 Darwin's Game

Darwin's Game

This series shows violent deaths to many characters and often shown graphically.  The show is pretty good but it might not work for all ages.  Plus there a few suggestive moments here and there.

I really appreciate this list so I can safely show other people anime, mostly non-anime people. Because rape and violence is so normalized in anime, we dont really see a lot of these things as that bad, but others most certainly do. I agree with almost everything you say in here and the descriptions are accurate even though some dont realize these descriptions are not about a synopsis of the series, but more like a content advisor for violence and rape (which is saddly common in anime to a worrying level)

Totorosa you obviously have deep seeded personal issues with way you immediately resort to undeserved and even threatening insults.  Comments like that could and should get you banned as you lack discipline, integrity, respect, and self control as made clear by your posts.  I have a right to my views and opinions irregardless of your irrationality.  As for the last three or four posts, some anime maybe because I have seen it or seen enough of it yet so don't automatically assume I have somehow neglected attention to my list.  Everyone has personal preferences of things they like seeing more than others in their chosen preferred anime.  Unnecessary comments that insult taste just because of the taste I don't believe belong here.  Now, some interests or opinions like those praising or calling for the commitment of crime might actually deserve more scrutiny but comments that base a perceived offense or insult purely based on tastes as simple as color preference do not deserve such unfair scrutiny.

When I make analysis or evaluations, I give reasons and sometimes as far as details or exact examples.  I've even to a degree posted some of interests and preferences usually either on my profile; in forums; or in comments such as those on liked characters.  I urge at the least that anyone on here and especially anyone who posts on my pages would show some respect.  Note, as I've mentioned, I based these concepts on examples I've seen in the real world such as how parents react to certain stimuli and what sorts of things kids of various ages are exposed to (usually by accident btw and things I've witnessed not necessarily involvement.) that said parents have a negative reaction towards.

And btw Goblin Slayer is a great show, that sheds a completely different light on the impact the "supplementary heroes" can have and their significance occasionally rivaling that of the great world heroes of lore,  yet never any less important to maintaining the peace of their world.  Goblin Slayer addresses the issue that parallels our reality in that quantity and weak individualities of the worlds smaller evils are more than capable of presenting devastation that surpasses all others through their overwhelming masses.  It's obvious you are a shitty fan of all anime and would probably rate some stupid anime like bringing a cellphone to a new world or garbage like domestic girlfriend higher than one piece, naruto, cowboy bebop, AoT and shows like Full metal Alchemist brotherhood even.

TotorosaiDaManslayer Sep 6, 2020

You forgetting Berserk and the infamous demon orgy rape party that leads Guts to tear his own trapped arm off...and I agree with most of the people on here.  Become a Jehovah's witness and/or kill yourself ya ignorant bum.

i appreciate the addition of Elfen Lied but it couldn't have been that bad. Granted yes it could be considered "senselessly violent", but it still holds a place near and dear to my heart.
