Anime With Best Male Characters

Characters and anime on this list stray from the mundane boring cliched anime stereotypical type offensive to men types of characters. Guys that break cliches or are more realistic than simple template stereotypes will make this list. This is a list for the lead or main characters we can actually like with good qualities and character more befitting of true lead or heroic characters.
1 07-Ghost

07-Ghost

Simply put, from the struggles the lead character faces to the very crafty and almost precision step by step progression in which Taito grows, is exceptional.  You add on top of that how good the story itself is, and you can't go wrong with this guaranteed winner.  Even many of the temporary and support characters hold strong qualities that make this animation truly stand out.  The 7 ghosts themselves are also quite appealing characters who also demonstrate growth and development through out the series.  The dynamic between Taito and Frau, while maybe frequently seen in some of the better animes, is done particularly well in this case.  This gimmick seen in other anime such as Naruto, where the main or an important character's youth or situation is reflected by the past of a close friend or mentor is truly done exceptionally well here and in a nice progressive way that is neither too fast or to slow nor does it hover on too much screen time each time such a comparison is made.

2 The Irregular at Magic High School

The Irregular at Magic High School

One may argue some of the less than steller merits of the show such as the brother sister relationship, but the parts that are good, are beyond exceptional.  One big reason this show stands out is because, it doesn't get swallowed up by cliched negative male characteristics overused in way too many other anime.  In fact, few if any characters harbor any such cliches.  They all have not only few such unrealistic annoying negative qualities but actually abound in good traits many of us might actually aspire to.  Every other quality is well above average and an antithesis to the most common cliches seen in anime.  It is very refreshing to see good characteristics in the main characters especially ones with such strong powers or skills which often for some reason or another makes many anime creators needlessly add creepy, unrealistic, disturbing, or annoying negative aspects to somehow balance out such power with something undesirable.  It really isn't needed, or at least not most of the time.

3 Birdy the Mighty: Decode

Birdy the Mighty: Decode

Hands down this show features one of the all time best antagonists in the character Georg Gomez.  He is so outstanding that even though he is nominally a villain, many of you viewers would probably wish you were more like him. Tsutomu is a classic boy next door character with a bit more of a innocent non creepy vibe than what is often seen in many anime regarding important male characters.  In fact the only really annoying characteristic might be the obsession two of his best friends have for exploring ruins.  Which really isn't so bad because it isn't such a cliched or disturbing hobby to have in an anime.  One of the main villians however, is clearly a freakishly disturbed narcisstic psychopath, not Gomez though.  That however, isn't necessarily a bad thing for a bad guy character.

4 Happiness!

Happiness!

Though Yuuma's best friend is a nutty pervert and his other friend is a rather over the top suggestive and infatuated cross dresser, this is a good show with good male characters.  The lead character really stands out for his superior moral and ethical behavior and lack of perversion and adolescent creepy qualities.  In fact, because he nor his best friend seem to have a problem with Jun actually adds to the feel of how good and admirable the male characters are since they are so tolerant in a world full of egotistical bullying intolerant jerks.  This is a nice vision to have.

5 Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?

Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?

Innocent looking boy with demigod powers acting quite innocent and bashful and seeking more than anything simply to be a hero is nothing to be shameful for.  Simple as it may sound, or perhaps reflective of classic mythology, it is a most basic story with an oustanding lead character who carries most everyone along with his over the top upbeat positive personality.  From the Hobbit squad leader who looks like he is 12 but is actually probably at least in his 40s to the blacksmith seeking some sort of separation from his shameful family's mistakes, there are plenty of good characters and bad ones to choose from.  It might be surprising who the only true pervert in the show is revealed to be or perhaps it is an act to remind Bell of his dead grandfather.

6 Darker than Black

Darker than Black

Hei is just cool.  There is alot of similarity between this and The Irregular at Magic High School with the main difference perhaps being that this one involves a college student and the other a High School one.  Hai is cool under pressure and like Tatsuya, he is just plain cool.  He doesn't seem to have any selfish motives though at times he does put on an air or act like he does perhaps to throw off enemies hiding in plain sight.  He was cool even before he got any power and afterwards he was only more so given he was dangerous to powerful superhuman magic users even before he was blessed with the same kind of supernatural powers.  Some of his antagonists are hiding or in disguise and that makes for a powerful drama.  The cool as ice, November is another high quality admirable male character though he smokes.  You won't find many characters male or female who you would regret ever knowing.  Hei isnt the only good character but he does stand pretty far above not only everyone in the show but many in the list even among all the anime featured in it.
