Alissa and the Magic Diary

Dec 11, 2022

I didn't notice this is a promotional chapter for the novel and I'm not going to read a novel now, but even taken alone the story here is simple and cute. And makes you want to know more, so it serves its purpose.

Aliens

Dec 11, 2022

In general it wasn't bad. The fact children remove bad memories replacing them with good ones is a real defense mechanism when they have abusive parents, the love theme is good and I cheered when the mother died. But I can't say anything more. I swear I'm a fan of the theme "mankind is rotten and you find love in dangerous non-human creatures", and I don't dislike tragic endings, but this was very rushed. I know that the personal drama of the girl is the main plot so we don't get any lore, but at least I want to understand why the creature is what it is, why the girl never tought... See full review

Akumu no Elevator

Dec 11, 2022

So, the story was really fun, I loved the twists, but the ending is anticlimatic. The tone shifts from comical to tragic too suddenly and it drops the fun. This had a lot of potential to be a longer series, but the scary final twist didn't feel part of the story. To be fair, it has the perfect foreshadowing, it wasn't badly written. But the tone wasn't done well. Imagine a tragedy where in the last scene the only character alive starts dancing and farting comicly. Or a romance where everything goes realistically but at the end an alien comes down to randomly shoot the couple. I mean, I was reading this... See full review

A Depiction of Hell

Dec 9, 2022

This was some kind of golden acid trip, a beautiful one. The art is amazing. At first I was afraid the story was a trashy one with a perverted king and the unlucky maid who has to sleep whit him, but MAN I WAS WRONG. I mean, that happens too but that's not the point. This is a story about the search for hell and the corruption of beauty. And I like the fact that the main story happens first, with all the evil stuff, and only later you get the backstory that explains why it all happened, when the story is done. Evil is evil, no matter what caused it in the first place. My interpretation of the... See full review

Abyss Rage

Oct 21, 2021

This is so bad it goes around and becomes good. And I could end it here, but let's go a bit deeper.  When I approached this manga I expected a deep, dark desperate story. But I found a swing between funny rage and sickly sweetness. Everything is just too intense and weird to take it seriously, I was literally unable to immerse myself in the story. I was laughing my ass off from start to finish and I don't think that was the purpose of the story. Sure, the intention of the author was good: the perseverance of love, the strenght of dreams, how love and dreams can be twisted, how the people we grow... See full review

Aibeya

Aug 12, 2021

The scariest part of this one is how stupidly oversized the car accident is. The hospital was really just a cheap hospital, so cheap and bad I was expecting it to be at least a ghost hospital from the past or something. The story has no ending: it's not a cliffhanger, it's not an open ending, it's a random cut, like even the author got tired of it. Can't say anything about the characters, I didn't see one. You replace them with lamps is almost the same. We have a rightful offended driver, a crazy b* entitled driver, an impractical monster, two doctors that need to quit their jobs and an old... This was weird and quick. Too quick to care about the characters. The art was peculiar and not bad, but not good either. The story is really simple and fast paced. Sure there's more behind what's happening, but the main point of the story is "we care about each other no matter what": this means the story is really character centered, but as I said it goes too fast for me to care about them, so at the end I get nothing. The intention of the story is good and there's nothing really that bad about it to give it just one star, but I can't give it more than two.

A Girl on the Shore

Aug 12, 2021

This is a good manga. I don't usually read manga set in high school because they are boring af, but I approached this beacuse the beautiful and realistic artstyle gave me the impression of not being a shallow nonsense highschool overinflated "drama". And I was right, this was a realistic and mature story, I enjoyed it. To be honest, at first I saw they where 2nd year jr high (middle school) kids making sex, and that had me creeped out. I didn't drop it only because I remembered japanese middle schoolers are older than ours (the protagonists are 14-15, not 12-13 as they would be here)... See full review

A Cat's Tale

Aug 12, 2021

Never imagined I would be so invested in a hen house power balance. But here I am, amazed and trying to figure out the main theme of this one. I think it's the loneliness of superior minds, and how this loneliness it's an unnecessary self infliction. This is true with the cat, the dog and the two chickens. They all are keeping the distance from all the others, but they follow different paths with different degrees of destructiveness, ranging between not being able to see what you really need, to just having fun spilling blood. At first I was wondering if the cat was just bored and making... See full review

Abarabone no Onna

Aug 12, 2021

This is a good horror, but at the end it gave away too much explanations. What's scary in a story is the unknown, the unexplainable, you can't get all the answers. Here I find a lack of balance between the unexplanaible and the rational. I don't like the contrast between the innatural way the rib harp sound reaches her owner, and the very human realistic reasons behind all the mistery. So are there some supernatural elements or not? That final explanation destroyed any supernatural vibe in the story and still weirdly wants you to believe there is some supernatural involved. It's a bit... See full review

All Nude

Oct 20, 2020

These are short stories. The "prologue" ones were hylarious! The japanese nonsense crazyness at its finest. The other stories (only chapters 1, 3 and 7, because the others are not online) are less funny and are more faithful to reality, they lack the nonsense but seem anyway really peculiar. The art is not always great but I got used to it really quickly. I can't rate the characters of the prologues because, well, those are too weird, but I like the girl and the boy in chapter 7. Note: I said 1, 3 and 7 because some manga readers call the prologues "chapter 0", but following... See full review

Akaboshi: Ibun Suikoden

Oct 8, 2020

My rating of the story is not because the plot isn't good, but because the story is not what it's promised to be. In fact this was planned to be a longer series, but they decided to cancel it, that's why everything is rushed and "closed" in just 3 volumes. I liked the art and the characters and this is anyway a good read if you like "historical" fights with superpowers.

Akuma Bengoshi Kukabara

Oct 8, 2020

I had a positive memory of this short story, and re-reading it didn't disappoint me. It has a proper dose of humor, although holy sh*t poor boy, this story really dwells in a dark issue. But I like it, don't get me wrong. Juvenile suicide has to be addressed in media, expecially in Japan where the problem is stronger. This story also smacks the insane association between suicide and sin, so it has my admiration forever. The demon protagonist is funny and relatable thanks to his power limits. I know this one shot is a premise for another title, but this is a good read on its own.

Alive!

Oct 8, 2020

The story is about freedom and isolation, humanity and monstrosity, innocence and evil. The plot is not really complex, but touches some interesting points about what makes you human and what draws the line to the moment you can stop being treated as such. And that moment can be the one you actually follow the most basic human instincts. So what's human? Killing or punishing the killer? Is living worth in a cage? Has death meaning when is decided by others? What's more monstrous, the actual monster that makes humans follow their most primal instincts, or humanity that punish those... Acony

Sep 29, 2020

This was really cute. The plot is not really complex. Motomi spends a couple of years at his granpa's, in a weird, alive, out of time and haunted building where he meets a number of weirdos of any kind. The main plot is about what happened to Acony, what she is, why she doesn't age and what happened to her mother. I liked that twist about Acony's mom at the university, but what happens next with her mom feels a bit disappointing. This main plot is closed by chapter 17, while the next chapters are unrelated events, except for the last one. Those unrelated chapters didn't feel completely odd... See full review

Ageha wo Ou Monotachi

Sep 29, 2020

This was fun, but the end felt forced. Of course Ageha deserves the best, but that last thing that happened to her wasn't necessary at all. Sometimes you can't just go back, and you have to adapt and find happiness in new conditions. That final thing wasn't even her choice, was just forced on her. Of course this is the best scenario, but it didn't feel natural in the plot.

After School Nightmare

Sep 29, 2020

I wish I could review this as the story of an hermaphrodite. Too bad this isn't. Or, you believe this is, until the weird nonsense ridicolous ending reveal. Let's start without spoilers. The story is weird and intriguing. Of course it's also a shoujo, so there's love drama too, mostly around Mashiro that's hermaphrodite and grew as a boy, but now he has period (his lower is female) and he has identity crisis. We can say he's more a female (regarding the byology/reproduction side), but grew as a boy because that's how he looked mostly with clothes on and in the upper part. The dream classes were... Ability Shop

Sep 29, 2020

I don't know why I enjoyed this so much in the past. Maybe because I was an idiot like the protagonist and couldn't find my own talents, hoping to be better by magic. Now thankfully I've overgrown that phase, and today I'd never approach this story. Also the ending is too convenient. The characters are not really memorable. And I still ask myself how people like the Shopkeeper register their own activities. I know the magic shop is a trope, but damn it's really abused.

Abba

Sep 29, 2020

I don't really know what I just read. The cover image has nothing to do with the story. What happens in the plot gives you a fascinating look at a weird decaying world but that's it. The premises of the story are weird: you don't know your brother (that you never met in the last 40 years) had a fiancee, but when she dies the hospital sends her stuff to you? Not clear. It's impossible to get invested in anyone. The ending is not a shocker, is just a fact. The whole story seems like a prologue for something better. The art is not really refined, but the style is clearly a choice and not a lack of... See full review

Abara

Sep 29, 2020

The story is told us really quickly. The lore is not really explained, but I got the feeling that what happened in this story is a cycle that is being going on on earth a lot of times. That's why the world seems to have that shape. Anyway, I like this style. The contrasts, the faces, the crude illustrations, the silence. The silence is probably the best. There are dialogues but it feels peaceful and relaxing when no one speaks. Even when someone's limb is flying away, it's quiet and graceful. The images are strong enough to not need unnecessary baloons.

Abandon the Old in Tokyo

Sep 29, 2020

This was an interesting read, but really really pessimistic. "Abandon" in the title is not for show. In these short stories if anything could decay, it will. It's a mature read that I won't reccomend to everyone. The stories are bitter slices of life and I believe those are situations worth showing, but it'd be wrong to believe this side of life is all that it is. It's just one side of it that we need to acknowledge.

9 no Puzzle to Wise Man

Sep 29, 2020

This would be, in normal conditions, an entertaining read. The dynamic between the two hackers was fine. Except for one element, that is total stupidity (this is not the word I wanted to use here but I want to keep a polite approach). Usually I don't spoil in reviews, unless I think the story is so bad no one would deserve to read that, and I'm about to complain about one major detail so stop reading if you care. The final main twist is based around the fact that girls can't be hackers, so one of the two hackers makes the other believe he's a girl, so the other one doesn't suspect of him/her being his... 3x3 Eyes

Sep 29, 2020

I read this years ago. It's divided in several arcs and I rarely lost my interest. Some situations felt like unnecessary, like the ones made just to see where some old characters were gone. Anyway, I loved all the mystic stuff, the way powers evolved, the sanjiyan's lore and the way Parvati is or isn't the last one. The plot gets more interesting and complex, but it never felt forced. The fights were good. I must confess I was really satisfied seeing Yakumo go from "basic human worth of just Pai" (I say "just Pai" for spoiler reasons) to "hero worth of Parvati"... See full review

Sep 29, 2020

It was a long time since I cried like an idiot reading any kind of manga/manhua/comic/whatever. It was moving or simply sad through its entirety, but since chapter 18 it was like a stab at every turn. During the story Hogu finds happiness, compassion and empathy in a machine, because humans are rotten. Even his grandma is unable to give him what he needs, because she went senile. His sister hardened up, one of his old friends bullies him, the other one sometimes helps, and involves him in the Chevrolet experiment, but she has a completely different social status and they don't really hang out. Sooo. This was a fun sequence of twists, but nothing special about it. Did the protagonist really ask if the girl is interested in him for real after barely some hours? Is he dumb? But she's not better. "It's a woman's nature to act". Now miss, maybe you are, in fact, acting while saying this because you don't want to open up, but dear lord don't drag all of us in your moral misery. In the end, this one shot is fine, but a little bit cliché.
