My Roommate is a Cat

Feb 22, 2019

I hate cats, it may partially be because I'm highly allergic, but they're also kind of dicks a lot.  However, damn I'm enjoying this.  I also never post a review until after I've reviewed a show, but I'm enjoying this so much and saw no one singing it's praises yet, so I thought I should. If you enjoy slice of life shows, you'll love this, hands down.  It's had a few teary moments so far, but oeverall it just makes you feel happy.  One of the highest compliments someone can pay to a piece of art, and which certainly applies to this, is that it makes you feel The show is unique in that... The Good Witch of the West

Apr 11, 2018

I think I liked this?  There was so much that is unexplained and my best guess is that they didn't give enough episodes to properly educate the viewer about the world.  So much just comes out of left field or is never explained.  Fairy tales are super important for some reason and then no one cares? I thought about quitting at times, but something compelled me on, maybe it was the hope that things would be explained?  I liked some of their characters, but their motives for so many things remain unknown. And then they use a deus ex machina! This is definitely not for everyone and by... See full review

Cobra The Animation

Jun 15, 2017

I was surprised to find that I enjoyed this show, I gave it a shot during a random mood.  I never comment about the music in reviews, but I have to here, because the theme would fit with any classic Bond movie.  The character designs are straight out of the 1980s, with many of the women looking very similar- blonde and busty.  Overall, it's just a fun show that seems like it is for adolescent boys, except it shows bare breasts. One problem I had, was that there is a lot that is unexplained and as a viewer, you just have to roll with it.  I haven't watched any of the other earlier Cobra... See full review

Mad Bull 34

Jun 12, 2017

This is absolutely insane.  You will either love it or hate it; there is no middle ground.  It is like someone condensed the 1980s in the US into an anime, even though this was made in the early 90s. Brutal murders, unecessary breasts and sex, lawless and dirty NYC.  This was probably made seriously, but you can only enjoy it comedically for its ridiculousness and being so over the top. It is very difficult to put a review of this into words.  It is a world of excess and absolutely amazing to me.

Absolutely amazing.  It's difficult for me to put my feelings about this into words.  It made me cry at times, just simply fantastic.  If you like serious dramas, then you will love this.  If you like anime that makes you feel, you will love this.  If your heart isn't made of stone, you will love this. Not everyone will give this a shot and maybe you have to be in the right mood, but it is amazing.  We all should want to be better people, this can give you hope.

Re:ZERO: Starting Life in Another World

May 22, 2017

I have to say that this anime takes some big swings in opposite directions emotionally.  Overall I like it, but to break it up, I like the first third, hate the 2nd third, like the last third. This is a unique take on the stranger in a strange land genre and worth a watch for anyone who enjoys that type of show.  You may want to give up on it when you get to the middle, but if you push through, it will return to the enjoyable style of the first third. One thing that did bother me was the change in personality and strength of the main heroine though.  Unlike many shows, this anime has good... See full review

Utawarerumono

I think I liked this show?  I will explain my thoughts a bit, but there are slight spoilers so I'll put some spaces before I begin. *SPOILERS* So the show starts off as a fairly average fantasy show and the main character drives technological and tactical development in a medieval world.  It is nothing special, but enjoyable.  However, halfway or more through, the show goes in a completely different direction.  At first it seems like they've got gundams, but then you realize that they're more like the machines from Neon Genesis Evangelion.  The plot suddenly gets very... Absolute Duo

Apr 23, 2017

This series can be summed up in one word: mediocore.  From the very beginning you get the feeling that this won't be more than a 3 and a half star show at best, but it really falls apart.  Almost every character fits neatly into the standard tropes and the show never tries to grow them in a different direction. This is a school combat anime that gets more ecchi as the show goes on.  Every man enjoys a little fan service, but it shouldn't take you out of the story.  The story itself shows signs of becoming interesting, but it never becomes compelling.  This is partially due to poor... Seven Mortal Sins

Apr 18, 2017

I had to drop this after one episode because it's...well...bad.  It looks like what I would call softcore hentai.  There is a censored version, but I don't see the point of it.  If you liked The Testament of Sister New Devil you might like this, but this has a much worse plot.  The only reason to watch this is if you want to see bare breasts and sensual touching, but are too chicken to watch hentai.

Sword Art Online

Apr 13, 2017

This is one of my favorite shows and the show that really got me into the world of modern anime.  The show is really like 2 separate seasons, with the 1st half being far superior to the latter.  Unlike Log Horizon, the NPCs have almost no role.  This show is an adventure drama, while most of the other mmo strangers in a strange world shows have larger slices of comedy.  I think this show broke a lot of new ground and whether you like it or not (i still don't understand the hate from some), I think it's responsible for the plot and character development of many other shows. I actually... See full review

Amagi Brilliant Park

Apr 11, 2017

This is an anime you have to be in the right mood to watch.  It has a unique story and interesting characters, although at times, the characters are a bit "too" unique.  The comedy is overpowered by ecchi at times, but the plot is able to survive.  It can get predictable at times, but that's the nature of anime like this.  The animal characters are able to nail the comedy most of the time, but they make surprising and seemingly random perverse actions every now and then. The show is worth a viewing, but again, if you're not in the right mood -for absurdity, comedy, and fan... See full review

Maoyu: Archenemy & Hero

Apr 10, 2017

I wasn't a big fan of this anime the first time I watched it, but it grew on me.  It's more like Spice and Wolf on a larger scale.  It deals with economic and philosophical changes in a middle age style world.  The character names bother me because they are nothing more than job titles, people actually use these as names: Merchant, Hero, Soldier, Female Knight, Mage. The protagonist is an overpowered character who does his best not to use his powers.  He is also the annoying type of male character who is easily flustered by and scared of women.  There is a bit of fan service, but... Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid

Apr 10, 2017

This is an enjoyable anime that adds a good twist to the slice of life plot.  It's pretty straight forward about what it is, if you like slice of life shows then you'll like this, if you dont like the genre then the twist isn't enough to make you enjoy this.  It's got a slow pace and is mainly episodic.  It can't resist doing some ecchi stuff even though the target audience shouldn't be one that's into that.  The show isn't a must see, but worth the time.

KonoSuba – God's blessing on this wonderful world! 2

Apr 10, 2017

This was a big disappointment for me.  I enjoyed the first season, it wasn't a masterpiece, but it was a good use of my time.  This sequel completely drops the ball, it loses its focus on a central plot and explores uninteresting avenues for the characters.  I still enjoyed the characters and the world that was created, so I would give a third season a try, but without improvement early on I might wind up dropping it.

The Irregular at Magic High School

Apr 8, 2017

This is one of my favorite anime.  The characters are well developed and the plots progress at a nice pace. The creator came up with a very interesting magic system and keeps the rules of the world consistent throughout.  This is an anime with an overpowered protagonist, but I think even people who don't enjoy that genre may find the show worth watching.  This series also fleshes out the backstories for secondary characters really well and the entire cast seems to grow.  The protagonist is -for lack of a better word- cool, but he differs from many other "cool" protagonists... Trinity Seven Movie: Eternal Library & Alchemic Girl

Apr 8, 2017

This was just awful, the only reason it has 2 stars is because I enjoyed the series.  This was clearly meant to be the plot for at least half a season, if not an entire season.  When given the option between making nothing or this movie, the creators should have chosen nothing.   If you liked the series you may get mild enjoyment out of seeing the characters again, but you might be better off not even acknowledging this exists.

Witch Craft Works

Apr 7, 2017

This anime is definitely not for everyone.  Only people who enjoy the absurd and don't mind cutesy stuff will like this show.  It has some unique features, but doesn't do anything to distinguish itself as a good show.  The protagonist also has the weak features of many male leads when it comes to romance; why can't the good guy also be able to kiss a woman without freaking out about it? If you can get through the first 2 episodes, than you're someone who will enjoy watching to the end.  It is not a show that needs a rewatch.

Aesthetica of a Rogue Hero

Apr 6, 2017

If you like overpowered heroes and overpowering ecchi, you'll like this.  It has a lot of interesting pieces, but doesn't utilize them, instead focusing too much on the sex stuff.  A lot of parts can actually be considered softcore hentai in my opinion.   I enjoy the overpowered hero genre, which is why I am disappointed in this.  The series sets up a number of possible plots that could fill a second season on their own, but it has never had a sequel and really doesn't deserve one.   I would say it's worth one view and then can be forgotten, but it's definitely not for everyone.

This is a pretty middle of the road anime, if you like adventure fantasy stories you will enjoy it, but not love it.  After watching, you get the feeling they may have spent a lot of time laying the foundations for a more interesting second season, but alas that didn't come to pass. It's worth one watch, but then you'll forget about it.

Isuca: Gokuraku

Apr 2, 2017

So I guess they made this just because they didn't do a beach episode during the series?  It's essentially just a bunch of bare breasts and inappropriate touching.  If you want to spend 20 minutes look at breasts, go for it, but you'd be better off just watching a hentai.

This is a pretty standard action anime, but with A LOT of gratuitous bare breasts.  Also, the protagonist can charge the female character's powers by kissing them.  It is over the top ecchi, but the plot is okay enough.  Overall, it's a mediocore show that would be enjoyed by anyone who doesn't mind fan service, but no one would claim it's good.

Campione!

Apr 1, 2017

Haven't you always wanted an anime where the main character has a giant golden sword, but instead of using it like a sword, fights by stating facts about various mythologies?!  No?  Me either.  How about one where the protagonist gains knowledge by tongue kissing girls? Only if it's a full on hentai. This is anime is just bad.  Sometimes it seems like its goal is to just give the viewer a history lesson, but even then some of the facts from myths it says are wrong.  There are so many problems with this anime that it's difficult to choose a place to start criticizing. All you need... See full review

Tears to Tiara

Mar 31, 2017

This was a very enjoyable show, it's hard to believe the tag that says its based on an eroge.  I had some problems with the clothing designs of characters, but was able to get passed it.  This anime also decided to use a lot of names familiar to Western audiences, mainly from Arthurian lore; this is something that happens in a lot of anime and tends to annoy me.  I didn't like the way they portrayed the Elven race in this, but a solid plot and a few great characters were more than enough to overcome the flaws I saw. This anime definitely will not be enoyable for everyone, but I think it is... See full review

My Mental Choices are Completely Interfering with my School Romantic Comedy

Mar 30, 2017

The show had an interesting premise to start, but fell apart by halfway through.  It wasn't a normal harem at the beginning, but they kept forcing it to conform.  The early episodes had some laugh out loud moments and painful awkwardness.  So painful at times I almost stopped, but the few funny moments kept me going.  I only completed the show because after I'm halfway through a series I feel obligated to finish. I should mention that the show had a handicap for Western audiences as there a lot of jokes and puns that clearly don't translate well or make sense.  That handicap was... See full review

My Mental Choices are Completely Interfering with my School Romantic Comedy OVA

Mar 30, 2017

I started this because I felt obligated after watching the series.  It continues the weirdness of the series.  It is not an epilogue or continuation, just a throwaway plot where the main character is transported into a harem videogame. There were a solid 3-5 minutes where the episode was genuinely funny, but the majority of it is a waste.  Unless you really loved the series (I didn't), you don't need to check this out.
