Welcome to the NHK!

Jul 14, 2018

Ok, I think I should make some things clear right off the bat. This manga certainly has cute girls, but if you are in it for the romance, this is NOT for you. This manga has a great story, but if you want to read this for an amazing payoff at the end, this is NOT for you. If you are looking for a normal happy story then this is definitely NOT for you.

Satou is a hikkikomori, a Japanese word that basically means shut-in. In order to cope with the way his life is turning out, he comes up with a conspiracy theory that the NHK is out to get him. He has various misadventures involving him getting caught up in a pyramid scheme, suicide cult, online gaming, and almost having sex with beautiful girls SEVERAL times (that was particularly infuriating let me tell you) however, the main theme that binds all these stories together is that Satou hits bottom, resolves to change, it doesn't work, and he is back to generally the same old life of hikkikomori. Some people don't like this style of storytelling with very little growth in character, but I think this style is perfect for a story about hikkikomori.

Regardless of all those good things, I still like the anime a decent amount better then the manga. In my opinion, the only thing better about the manga is the art (mostly because in the anime, the art style looks good up close, but zoomed out is gets muddy or something) Also, the girls in the manga look 10x cuter (and wear less clothing)

Long story short, this manga is good, but watch the anime unless you are in it for the art design and/or the girls. (Misaki is best girl btw)

10/10 story
9/10 art
9/10 characters
9.5/10 overall
