The Familiar of Zero: "Rondo" of Princesses - Seductive Beach

May 8, 2012

Best beach episode ever! The headmaster colludes with the male students to make the girls wear increasingly skimpy swimsuits - something about becoming the truest fair maiden and observing the proper sea rituals. Totally hilarious.

The Familiar of Zero: "Rondo" of Princesses

May 8, 2012

Finally on the third season this anime delivers! Previously there was too much supposedly cross-border intrigue and warfare which was boring and ridiculous. When this show works best is when Saito leers at a chick and Louise appears behind him and kicks him in the balls, I can eat that up all day. And in this season not only is it mainly set at the school, with the threat of conflict with a magician remaining mainly in the background until the last few episodes, but the harem really fulfils it's potential. Previously the harem element was under-developed but now we have a new character with HUGE mammaries... See full review

Lame, annoying, cliched. Watch this irritating anime if you place no value on your time or peace of mind.

Chu-Bra!!

Apr 14, 2012

Don't believe the low score on anime-planet! This is a sweet schoolgirl anime. It's all about a darling girl who is suffering isolation because of a vicious rumour. She attempts to make friends and start a controversial after-school club against the wishes of some prudish elements within the school faculty. Yes it does have plenty of panty shots. The screenshots, and description, all choose to focus on the ecchi but this is a show about girls in adolescence and will, I think, be most appreciated by females who can most closely identify with the characters. It's about having courage to be brave and... See full review

K-On!!

Mar 3, 2012

K-ON!! 10/10 Don't Say It's Over!!!!! This is only the second anime I've given a perfect score. Toward the end of the season I realised I was in the middle of watching a great anime and felt privileged. How can a person not love these girls? They're friendly, sweet, funny and always thinking of each other before themselves. So I want them to succeed in their school and with their band HTT. The overarching plot is fairly loose with episodes often revolving around the minutiae of life for highschool girls in Japan. This all works because the show is laugh-out-loud funny. And any problems with... See full review

Moetan

Jan 15, 2012

Lolicon magician is exiled to the human in duck-form and grants magical powers to Ink Nijihara in order to accrue enough good-deed points to return home. It's a perfectly fine show but it really ratchets up the loli-leering and so is really only for fans of the genre. I like it when a character in a show gives a perfect one-line review, this occurs when the cat says "What hell kind of anime is this?" And I think that sums up my feeling at times. But it gives a nod and a wink to the watcher with some parody and lines like "now for some random nudity!" Saccharine fun.

Fight Ippatsu! Juuden-Chan!!

Dec 21, 2011

This is an alternative take on the concept of angels. In this case Charge Ladies from a parallel universe are tasked with visiting our world and injecting energy into those people who are feeling down and depressed. The central character is Plug who has a heart of gold but a brain of mush. Her supervisor is the accomplished, but cold, Arrester. Together they become involved in the life of a human, Sento who can see the ladies from another world, while also trying to understand why more and more people are becoming depressed within Plug's jurisdiction. The show got off to an indifferent start with no... See full review

Saki

Dec 18, 2011

I loved this anime. The series revolves around a group of high school girls playing competitive Mahjong. Even without knowing anything about the rules of the game I was enraptured in the intense excitement of the matches due to the fine uses of music to set the tone and clear expressions of reaction and feelings by the characters. The characters are varied, very well designed and often extremely endearing. I think the way that so many characters are introduced, going from initial enemies to becoming protagonists with their own identity and back-story, reminds me of Bleach - with Mahjong. The animation... See full review

Kamen no Maid Guy

Nov 28, 2011

Naeko & Kousuke are the rich kids assigned "maid agents" who cook, clean, and protect the siblings who are under threat before they receive a grand inheritence. While the overaching story is typically non-sensicle the humour, much of it boobs-based, is hilarious. The characters are great particularly Maid-Guy with many special moves and imappropriate investigations into the life of his young female charge. I really liked the fun of this anime and think it succeeds in all it's ambitions.

Ladies Versus Butlers!

I don't think an explanation of this anime is really necessary. The tags say it all. This show delivers nudity, comedy etc in spades and is very enjoyable.

Kimi ga Aruji de Shitsuji ga Ore de

Oct 24, 2011

Quite good when it's being light-hearted but is tedious when it's more serious. The elder sister/matriarch is hilariously lecherous and the other characters are ok but this is not an anime I would be tempted to revisit. Above average but nothing more.

Tenchi Muyo! War on Geminar

Oct 24, 2011

There are many genres in this series that are very well blended with fantastic characters and an interesting story that requires keen attention from the viewer. The first half is a fantasy school-life maids/servants ecchi comedy that had me howling with laughter. The second part is more action/war/adventure oriented and my one critisism is that the action was a bit underwhelming with the added annoyance that the allied forces were being far too nice to the enemy. But incompetence aside the myriad of characters are tremendously good. Kenshi is the hero with an astonishing number of pursuers who jovially... See full review

Magician's Academy

Sep 11, 2011

I'm surprised this anime doesn't seem to have more fans. It's quite irreverant, zany, and a tad random but never annoying. Very bright and chirpy with excited characters, things blowing up and, of course, moe. For me it's what I maight call "Breakfast Anime", one to watch while eating my cereal. Fantastical settings, lots of comedy, and a bit of ecchi make this a great anime in it's field.

Sky Girls TV

Aug 12, 2011

I think of this as being like Evangelion Light meets Charlie's Angels. 3 young girls are purposely sought out to pilot a prototype military mech and experience the trials of bonding, training, and earning the respect of their ranking superiors. Story: 6/10 Very similar to Evangelion: Years ago humanity fight the WORMs, the race is on to develop the mechs in anticipation of the return of the WORMs, mech's fight the WORMS. I thought the first half was superior with lots of slice of life stuff with the girls getting to know each other. The second half revolves around battles and I found the odd episode to be... Princess Lover!

Aug 8, 2011

The first half was enjoyable fluff. Big-boobed, ecchi comedy that flows very nicely. Had it continued in that vein I would have given this anime an 8/10. The second is incredulous to the extreme. When foreign mercenaries with automatic weapons and bombs commit acts of terrorism, abduction, and grand theft railroad do you contact the authorities or send the nephew and butler over-seas on a special-op mission? It's so stupid I was face palming every five minutes and shaking my head in-between. So for the second half 4/10.

Clannad After Story

Jul 30, 2011

Some thoughts on Clanned After Story Everything about this anime that has been proclaimed in terms of it's beauty and charm I completely agree with. The characters are lovely, the music's great, visually it's gorgeous, and the central story is compelling. I've rarely been rooting for characters so much as Nagisa and Tomoya. My first gripe is that the first section is simply a continuation of Clannad with a couple of character-based mini-arcs, only not as good. (Spoilers) My second gripe is that despite how much I loved Clannad After Story I’m not going to go back and re-watch it because of the... See full review
