This is one of my top anime ever. I loved every second of this silly and awesome show (including the second season).

Space Dandy is approximately what you get when you combine Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, with an emphasis on comedy. Character personalities, character dynamics, animation, writing and the English dub are all absolutely top notch. Each episode takes things to some new level, and there's no limit to how the ante is upped in each story. It just goes all the way and beyond!

The protagonists are fully invested in whatever they do, yet with a charming disregard for anything but the present moment. The series itself is similarly aloof about how its stories turn out, in a very entertaining way.

Space Dandy is heavily episodic, which actually makes the series better in my opinion, because that gives much better focus, leeway and impact to each individual story. The episodic nature has to do with the multiverse business that several episodes and the Japanese ending song gladly give away.

The English dub is hands down better than the Japanese, and the series was originally broadcast English first. But I do suggest you watch the Japanese opening and ending at least once, because they were cut from the English version and they give a big hint as to the oft-missed nature of the show's premise.
