The Helpful Fox Senko-san

Mar 21, 2024

I wanted a relaxing show during a stressful time, but this show... It just came off as super creepy. The foxgirl goddess character is portrayed much too young, even if it is all super innocent. It just, I don't know... It gave me ick feelings even though nothing bad was going on. This show just wasn't for me.

I'm in Love with the Villainess

Jan 14, 2024

First time watching GL, and... It was okay. I've really enjoyed the other two isekai villainess animes I've seen, so I thought this would be a good way to try GL. However, while I enjoyed it enough to watch the full first season, it had some very problematic moments. I saw in the comments that the MC has a lot of internal homophobic she has to deal with in the light novels, which explains the way she acts a bit more, but I can only judge what was in the anime. The second episode almost made me drop the show because that was straight up sexual assault. The MC also is constantly harassing the villainess... See full review

Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop

Jan 9, 2024

I was in the mood to watch a movie, and I didn't remember watching this one before (apparently I have), but I randomly settled on this one. I can see why people love this movie, but to me it was slightly above okay. Probably not one I would watch again, but I wouldn't mind if somebody else put it on. First I want to talk about the art style. I LOVE the color palette of this movie. It's different from the norm and can look quite beautiful because of it. As for the animation style... Sometimes I love it, sometimes it looks really cheap to me. Not a knock against it, as it is heavily stylized, but the style... See full review

Skip and Loafer

Aug 6, 2023

I randomly clicked on this anime when in the mood for something fairly chill. I'm so glad I did, as this show is adorable and fun and I love it. The romance is sweet, but I also love that the various characters and friendships grow throughout the first season. It's more of about people growing in life with a bit of romance on the side. I enjoyed all of the characters. I also love the opening animation (especially that little dance). I mostly loved the animation style. I was going through a rough patch of life when I watched this, and it was exactly what I needed. Even without that rough patch, I know I... See full review

Steins;Gate: Egoistic Poriomania

I took too long of a break between finishing the show and watching this OVA, but with what I did remember, it was a good follow-up to the show and ends things in a more satisfying place shipping-wise.

Spice and Wolf II OVA

Feb 3, 2023

I happened to look up an episode guide while watching season 1 of the show, where I then happened to see this show has an OVA. I really wish streaming sites made it obvious when content from a show is missing... However, while I saw something about how this OVA bridges the gap between the two seasons, I can't say that it seems important. I've yet to watch season 2, but this OVA is basically about Holo being sick from the aftermath of season 1 and more of her feelings/jealously for Lawrence without it actually progressing anything. The dream imagery was interesting for what it signified going on in Holo's... See full review

Spice and Wolf

Feb 3, 2023

First off, this anime is NOT shy about showing Holo nude. It's only her, and it makes sense she wouldn't care, but it makes it awkward to watch whenever she is nude. For the most part, there's nothing detailed or sexual about the nudity but, every now and then, a frame/movement would seem a bit teasing. I don't watch shows with nudity (outside of transformation scenes/hot springs scenes, as it's hard to get away from those with anime), so I'm amazed I didn't drop this within the first episode back when I first watched it. Watching it a second time, the amount of nudity shocked me. After the first episode... See full review

Beast Tamer

Jan 12, 2023

I checked this anime out kind of on a whim, as I'm writing a story with a foxgirl and this anime has a foxgirl and looked fun. It turns out the one I thought was a foxgirl is a cat, but there is also a foxgirl (that doesn't come in until near the end of the season). As for the anime itself, I really enjoyed it. It was fun to have a character that was OP and still doesn't fully accept that by the end. Which, he gets MUCH more OP by the end of the season and... eh. I love the way the taming works and it's a cool concept, but by the final battle, I was just waiting for them to hurry up and win. The rest of... See full review

KonoSuba – God's blessing on this wonderful world!

Dec 8, 2022

First off, I hate when I don't realize a show is ecchi before starting. I should have dropped it episode 1 for that, but sometimes shows start out with sex appeal in the beginning and then scale it back for the most part. Nope. This show has the two of the main three girls constantly aroused over non-sexual things in a sexual way. Almost all of the humor has to do with making things sexual. Outside of the ecchi issue, I just found this show boring. I also didn't realize it was a comedy before I started. The first episode does give plenty of hints at this, but I thought it would have more adventure than it... See full review

RDG: Red Data Girl

Oct 6, 2022

I watched 8 out of 12 of the episodes only to find myself no longer caring as I was actively watching said eighth episode. I was just bored. Even with only four episodes left, I just don't care to finish. The plot synopsis sounded like something right up my alley and I really enjoyed the first episode. However, the further the story progressed, the less I enjoyed it. The interesting characters in the beginning quickly began to feel boring and the world became boring as it was expanded. I think, in part, the world expansion made the main two characters less special. Not that they aren't still special, but... See full review

The Girl From the Other Side: Siuil, a Run OVA

Jul 28, 2022

The concept is way more interesting to me than this OVA. Not that it's bad by any means, but I wasn't a fan of the more experimental style of animation. Some moments were animated or framed in a cool way, but I just don't find this style appealing. I did like how the story unfolded, but wish there could have been more to it. I'm thinking I'll like the manga better, since there's a lot more of it, but who knows.

Brand New Animal

Jul 11, 2022

One of my favorite animes. I LOVE the animation, love the characters, love the plot, and I just wish there was more! The opening hooks you right away and then I love the dynamic between Michiru and Shirou. I also loved watching Michiru explore and learn to love this new environment she's in. The story does feel a little disjointed, like it couldn't decide if it wanted to tell episodic adventures or a bigger plot, but each episode is super enjoyable and it all contributes to Michiru's character growth, which, in turn, contributes to the finale. I wish there had been a little more focus on the mysteries... See full review

The Misfit of Demon King Academy

Jul 11, 2022

This was a really fun anime I picked up just randomly. I haven't seen a ton of shows where the main character starts out OP, but this show does it right. I loved the mystery of the show, the various characters and their interactions, the humor, and just how fun the show was. It did a great job at balancing the humor with the serious moments. It helps a lot of the best lines are said via dialogue--but what would be funny is backed up by power. The most ridiculous moment of humor happens in the finale, but it was setup beforehand and somehow worked. As for the finale... It was kind of rushed, and this show... See full review

Fena: Pirate Princess

Jul 11, 2022

I hate it when I wait too long to write a review for something... I really enjoyed this anime up until the ending. The climax/answer to the mystery just felt... flat? Boring? Fena literally spends the entire show making friends with people and falling in love with one of said people, so I didn't doubt her answer for a second when it came to the climax. I mean, the answer to the mystery was interesting, but... It didn't work for how it was set up and for the personality of the MC. I loved the animation, the characters, and everything else about the show. I honestly wish it could have been double its... See full review

Burn the Witch

Feb 7, 2022

There are a lot of interesting concepts and fun characters in this three episode show, but the worldbuilding is too complex for such a short run. Almost nothing gets explained, and the few things that do get explained (especially in the beginning) then don't seem to matter throughout the rest of the show. If you don't want to do a lot of explaining for your world, fine, but the setup for the world and the plot of these three episodes are literally the same thing. As such, it felt like I had missed the introduction to this show. ...Which, the anime does miss the introduction. From what other people have... See full review

Fire Force

Jan 8, 2022

I thought this was a slice of life show about firefighters, but boy was I wrong. The first episode didn't really grab me, other than the main character's backstory was interesting. The second episode introduced a fun rival character, as well as gave one of the female characters a little more personality/time to shine. However, I stopped watching shortly into the third episode. The females are largely treated as sex objects, with how they're posed, drawn, and then "accidently" touched in the third episode. No thanks. I wish I had noticed the ecchi tag on this site before I started it. I didn't... See full review

Toradora! The True Meaning of Bento

Jul 7, 2021

This is a fun sidestory with a cute ending. It seems a little longer than necessary, but there's a lot of humor to it that keeps it going. Nothing amazing happens in it, but the fake rivalry is fun, and watching this just made me wish I could try all of the food. I especially loved the message at the end, and that last screenshot was super adorable. If you enjoyed the anime, you'll probably enjoy this, but it had even less going on than the anime does.

Toradora SOS! Hurray for Gourmands

Jun 7, 2021

I watched two out of the four episodes and then found myself dreading the rest, even though they're only five minutes long. It seems these shorts all follow the same formula and the focus is on comedy and nothing else--but I didn't find the comedy funny. As such, I could care less about them.

Toradora!

May 27, 2021

I really enjoyed this show, but the last two episodes were... interesting. Not bad, and it mostly makes sense when considering where the characters needed to grow, but I feel like it could have been explained better. Though, that's a trait this show has, in that it's largely exploring the characters of Ryuuji and Taiga as well as the characters surrounding them, yet the show goes out of its way to make you unsure exactly how a character is feeling or what they mean by whatever they said. Some of the conversations aren't too hard to decipher, but there are others leaving you feeling like a character is... See full review

Chobits

Apr 12, 2021

Watched the first episode and that's it. I have to give it a score out of ten in order to write the review, but I haven't watched enough to really do that. So, that score isn't accurate. This sounded like a fairly cute/innocent anime, with no tags on it indicate it's for an older audience, but the first episode made me uncomfortable. There was nothing really explicit, but the main character seemed obsessed with porn, and those characters are annoying enough when being the side character--much less the main character. He did seem pretty shy when it came to touching a female robot, but the 'on' switch had to... See full review

Made in Abyss Movie: Dawn of the Deep Soul

Apr 12, 2021

This movie was too much for me. I did finish it, but if I had known just how mature this show was going to get, I would not have started it. The show already was borderline too much for me, and then this movie ramped it up--both with the violence and with the nudity. There was one scene in particular that made me feel physically sick and made me want to bleach my brain. I mean, I knew things were going to be dark with the next bit of the story, considering they had to deal with the guy doing human experiments, but in the show the violence was seen through flashbacks, so it was both a little farther removed... Made in Abyss

Apr 12, 2021

I started watching this anime on a whim and really enjoyed it. However, the audience is meant to be adult--in part for some of the violence (especially in the following movie), and in part because it really likes to make remarks about the robot Reg's male parts (plus some child nudity--though it never shows anything explicit).

In all honesty, this is NOT a show to watch if bothered by those things, as it only gets so much worse in the following movie--and I would never watched this show if I had known the levels it was going to go to (mostly in terms of violence, but the fascination with Reg's male... See full review

Steins;Gate 0

Jan 12, 2021

Again, I'm super late at reviewing this one, as I watched it months ago. I thought this anime was going to be about the events leading up to the future we gets hints at in the first show, but instead it's a different timeline. I get they wanted to subvert expectations, since we already know bits about the future, plus know how it ultimately ends, but it makes none of this anime feel important. I mean, there's a brief part they try to play into the orignal's ending, but it really wasn't needed. Also, Kurisu is quickly brought back as an AI, so that she can spend most of the show interacting with... See full review

Steins;Gate

Jan 12, 2021

This is an anime I've heard a lot of people talk about, so I decided to finally check it out. It took me about four or five episodes to get into the show. I honestly would have dropped it sooner, if it wasn't clear something bigger was going on, that the main characters just didn't know yet. Once the problem becomes apparent, though, wow, you don't want to stop. I really hated the character Itaru, as he creeped me out more so than most pervert characters do (why does every anime need a pervert?). However, I loved the main three of Rintaro, Mayuri, and Kurisu. They are the ones that really make the show... See full review

Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina

Jan 12, 2021

I like the animation style and the design of the main character. The idea also sounded like fun, of following the adventures of a traveling witch. However, after three episodes, I just didn't like the main character enough to continue. Don't get me wrong, it's not like I expect her to fix everyone's problems and save everyone she comes across, but her lack of caring about others at all is a little weird. Episode 3 isn't the entire reason I dropped the show, but after watching three episodes and then coming back to it the next day... I found myself uninterested.

Cardcaptor Sakura: The Movie 2: The Sealed Card

Sep 28, 2020

I wasn't going to watch this, as I dropped the series, but I couldn't quite bring myself to get rid of my physical copy without actually watching it. I didn't even go to the effort of putting the sub on, so it was my first time experiencing the dub. As I've only seen bits and pieces of the anime (as I jumped around when watching it), plus switching to dub for the movie, it's hard to fully judge the movie. It's also been awhile since I've seen any of the show, so my memory was a bit fuzzy. However, it was still an enjoyable story, and I think there was a good balance of romance and action. Your lie in April

Sep 10, 2020

I didn't find this anime as sad/emotional as most people seem to, but I think it's because I realized early on the fate of one of the characters, and so I never grew emotionally attached. The anime also felt a little bit slow towards the end, as a character was introduced late in the game and was a little bit slow at being relevant, plus I was beginning to be frustrated with how nobody could actually talk things out and just tried to stay in line with what they thought of other people...

Not to say the anime wasn't good, as I really enjoyed the journey Kousei went through, and the various... See full review

My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!

Aug 9, 2020

While this is tagged with a Reverse Harem, I think it also should have an LGBT+ tag. That said, on to the actual review!

This is an anime I randomly clicked on while waiting for more episodes of Asendence of a Bookworm, not expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. The main character, Katarina, is such an idiot, but she's loveable while doing it, and she's so hyperfixated on what could go wrong that it makes sense she doesn't realize what has gone right. In the comments on Cruncyroll, people started calling her Bakarina, and it's such a fitting name. XD

Rozen Maiden

I've been in the mood for short shows lately, and I stumbled across this one. I enjoyed the master/servant type of relationship in Magus' Bride, so I thought I would give this one a shot.

However, it was just... boring. I didn't care about the characters, which made me not care about the plot. I understand the main boy is probably going to grow into a better person by the end, but... I think my main beef with him is the fact that he sits at home all day wasting money on junk products.
