Chocolate Underground

Dec 26, 2013

Secret Santa Review!
(Oops, I totally forgot until boxing day to do this!) I was recommended Chocolate Underground for the secret santa event, and what can I say? An anime made up entirely of 3 minute episodes fit perfectly into my final exam schedule. I kind of wish I'd chosen one of the more time consuming but hopefully better animes from the batch that I got…

The story was a cute, kind of cliche story about rebelling against a corrupt power. the rebellion itself is sparked by one stupid rule too many- the banning of chocolate! It also tries to shoehorn some romance into it, but it... See full review

Fumiko no Kokuhaku

Feb 17, 2013

Story- 7/10
You must be giving me the most incredulous look right now and wondering "How can she possibly give this such a high score for a story when there wasn't even three lines of dialogue?" The story is quick, simple, and completely easy to understand. It wasn't deep- not that it was trying to be. It wasn't tragic or dramatic or in any way a serious, thought provoking look at love. It was just a goofy little short about a girl who gets turned down in favour of baseball. It's not an original story, really. Nor does it add anything to the romance genre. It would never qualify as a... See full review

ef: A Tale of Memories.

Dec 24, 2012

Secret Santa Review
Spoiler free It was a chance meeting that lasted less than 45 seconds. What I am referring to is the Anime Planet Secret Santa challenge of 2012. I have no regrets about taking the 45 seconds to sign up, because Ef- A Tale of Memories is an anime I should regret not watching sooner! Story- 7/10 Ef- a Tale of Memories is, at it’s core, a romance anime with loads of characters and many separate romances within it- some of which barely had any relevance to each other. At twelve episodes, it would be difficult to imagine an anime that can wrap up three different love stories... See full review

White Album

Jun 25, 2012

Story: 7/10
The story of White Album itself is fairly unique, although at its core it's certainly a harem anime. The show opens with Touya waking up late and catching his girlfriend, the rising star Yuki, in a TV interview. We are then introduced to a plethora of women who will each have their influences on Touya and Yuki's relationship as they struggle to make if work throught the strains the music business puts on it.  The story itself is very interesting in that aspect, and it doesn't shy away from trying to be as realistic as it can be (which, for a harem, may not be easy.) Of course, it... See full review

Chihayafuru

Apr 14, 2012

Story: I have never seen an anime based on this game called "Karuta", however there's plenty of tournament love triangle shows out there. Chihayafuru is a show that never really tries to do anything special or different with the plot, it simply bounces from one arc to the next- from the setting up arc where characters are introduced and backstories are told (at least for Chihaya, Arata, and Taichi.) right into a plethora of different tournaments (all of which seem to drag out their matches for as many inner monologues as possible.) I guess right about now I should give you the disclaimer that... See full review

Murder Princess

Oct 25, 2011

Story: This was an early anime I watched. To be quite honest, the story was solid, however the way it was told would've been vastly improved if there'd been more than 6 episodes. After the finale, I found myself thinking how abrupt it was and how much I wanted to see what happened after, or perhaps a bit more meat in between the beginning and end. The good thing about it being so short was that there was no filler and the story was anything but slow paced. Animation: I am no judge of good or bad animation. The movements were smooth and the character designs were memorable (in a good way.) My only problem... See full review

Ground Control to Psychoelectric Girl

Oct 14, 2011

The initial premise was extremely intriguing and I thought that it would make a really good story that would easily last for 12 episodes. Unfortunately, the initial premise dwindled away after about the fourth episode, along with most of my intrigue in the series. I think that brought down it's score immensely, because once they lost focus of the creative and imaginative story it just became your average moe harem. The animation was glorious, which says a lot because I normally don't notice the animation of shows much. The girls all had adorable designs and the art style was very suitable for the show...
