Lost Song

Oct 30, 2019

This anime can take a bit to get the ball rolling. I decided to just power through it in one sitting because it was short.

First, let me add that this anime doesn't have the strongest start so it can take a few episodes to get yourself into it. For myself I wasn't sure after episode one if I wanted to continue but since it's on Netflix and they have autoplay for us lazy folk, I just let it continue. Procrastination won and I really enjoyed this.

Next, as a few people that come across this might wonder, why is the animation rating lower than the others? For me this anime was more about the story and characters than it was the animation. Yes it has some beautiful moments, but it also has some others that just look odd and no I don't mean the 3D bits. As someone who studied animation, I 100% understand the choice behind that. 2D takes a lot of time, and if ya need to draw literal armies or machinery, 3D saves time and budget.

----- The next little bit contains spoilers so if you haven't finished watching, then you've been warned -----

Like most people watching, upon coming across the scenes that take place in the modern world, you'd be hella confused. Props to whoever directed this storytelling because most of the anime takes place during the past and present respectively. But unless you're watching it a second time, you wouldn't have any idea that the Finis you were seeing was in the past. Theres no reason to fully notice because Rin during this time, has no reason to meet or conveniently run into her.

I went into this expecting a musical esque anime taking place in a medieval fantasy. So when they threw the time "loops" at us I was completely shocked, and confused.

------------------------- END SPOILERS ------------------------

I don't want to dive to deep as I don't want to accidentally spoil the ending or some characters but I enjoyed this anime a lot more than I thought I would. It's not a music anime but songs are a huge part of the world so I could see how some might be a little put off at first. The music is very well written and I never got tired of hearing it, especially with some songs that get sung multiple times.

9/10 story
7/10 animation
10/10 sound
