Feel free to recommend to me!  I love hearing about what others feel about an anime!  I am watching Attack on Titan now because of a series of recent coincidences --  at the recent ALA con and also a recommendation from a new AP friend here and thirdly a friend started watching it as well ... I'd had it on my Want To Watch list for a long time, but these recent flags bringing it to my attention spurred me to action to actually start it. Am on episode 11 now ... much action and many plot twists and different/more interesting than I'd thought it would be. (I think I was expecting another Kill La Kill - nothing wrong with KLK, just way too overhyped for what it is.)

I've also recently started One Piece manga because of a recommendation from a site friend (???!!!  would a "true" friend have done this to me???  hehehe only read one chapter so far, only about 730+ more chapters to go!)

Got some great experiences with new anime from my AP Secret Santa participation. Here is what that is: someone re-instated an AP tradition from last year. AP members signed up, then the moderator assigned each participant a secret buddy from the signups. You looked at their preferences and then suggest three items for them to watch and/or read depending if they preferred anime or manga. Someone is assigned to you as well.  Send your recommendations in to moderator, and they forward it to the other member.  So you don't know until after at the end who made the recommendations you received.  You pick at least one of the three suggestions and watch/read it and then have to write a review of it on the site. This earns you a badge (eventually) and completes your participation in the event.  I got Kuregahime, Mononoke, and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure anime from my Secret Santa. Being ambitious, I watched all three, AND watched all related specials/OVAs/movies etc.  I've written recommendations and reviews for two out of the three, but have yet to post my official JoJo reviews...  GREAT bunch of anime, though, and it was a fun experience so I'll definitely participate again next year.  Here is the forum topic if you want to read up more on it:

RE: Be A Man AMV -- Do you see now what I mean by an AMV telling a story/setting a mood/revealing AMV creator's thoughts?  (Be A Man theme = Introducing Kamina, and who Nighthawk, the AMV creator, thinks he is).

This AMV does a great job of portraying Kamina character as the inspirational guy he is! I noticed that you haven't yet seen Gurren Lagann anime (not on your watched list) so I don't want to give away too much plotline or tell any spoilers, but Kamina was my favorite character in the anime, and he is inspirational to the others throughout the entire run of the series.  He is not nearly so ... um ... authoritative or military ... well I guess he kinda is ... in the anime but this AMV really really captures the feel of this character, almost better than the anime itself does.

(I mentioned to you that I've worked as staff several years at the Anime Los Angeles convention in the AMV/Special Events department. It's volunteer work, but very fun and I've learned a lot about AMVs and seen many now. I had the great pleasure of meeting Nighthawk, the video creator, there.  Have you considered entering any of your AMVs in any convention contests? It's a great way to get feedback, and there is nothing like actually watching an audience as they watch something you created to see the emotions your work inspires in a crowd if you are attending the convention.) - Sianeka

Re uploading but using your link for Be A Man video - it's sharper than the link I'd originally posted...

It looks like you've already found some of them, but here are links to the AMVs I'd mentioned to you:

(Note: contrast the story/theme of Be A Man AMV (Kamina personality) vs the pure action a good action AMV using the same anime as base video.)

About my ratings:  I see which description fits how I feel, then rate the anime that number using this scale shown on one of my blog pages: https://www.anime-planet.com/users/Sianeka/blog/posts/28152

\r\n

I guess I tend to rate things harshly (certainly much more strictly than you do!) I used to say that I never give lowest (0.5) or highest rating (5.0) since it would be tough for an anime to be that good (or bad).  But since I joined the Damn, That Anime's Bad club (DTAB) on this site, I have found that an anime CAN be THAT bad! So, I've given out some 0.5 ratings.  Still waiting for that anime that totally blows me away and I can give out my first 5 rating...

\r\n

The small handful of anime that have earned the highest ratings I have given / most enjoyed anime (earning 4.5 ratings) so far have been: Hotarubi no Mori e movie, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood series, Fullmetal Alchemist series, Trigun series.

\r\n

I only just started writing reviews because I was forced to as part of Secret Santa participation, but I plan on adding more. I don't normally like to "criticize" so didn''t write them, but now realize that they can be beneficial, adding to another person's understanding/realization about an anime.  That was my goal on commenting on your YouTube AMVs.  Not just to say "good job" or "I hate that anime" -- those kinds of reviews do nothing to help you out in making future AMVs.  So I tried to add commentary with reasons that hopefully WOULD be more meaningful to you than some random opinion.  I truly do NOT mean to only post criticisms... - Sianeka

I loved Fullmetal Alchemist series, except I hated the ending. Even the movie didn't fix it. (Fullmetal Alchemist The Movie: Conqueror of Shamballa) So I was unsure about watching Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.  But glad I did.  I liked the ending much better.

\r\n

Not sure, though if I enjoyed it so much because I'd already seen original FMA.  Not sure how it would hold up on its own ...

\r\n

Planning a rewatch of both, but like you said at more than 50 episodes per series, it's an investment of time.  I haven't yet found that time...  But I -do- really want to see both again, and catch the related movies I haven't yet seen. - Sianeka
