You can either search by anime, when you find the one you are searching for, at the bottom of the box, there's a drop down to change the status. "watched, watching, want to watch..." This way is a little long but great for starters ;)
OR you can choose "anime recommendation database" from the top, choose the correct letter (or do them one by one) A whole list will show up, and you can change the status at the right of the screen.
If you have any more trouble, I can walk you through it better via MSN or something, just say the word ;)
