Yowamushi Pedal: Limit Break

Mar 20, 2023

An absolute mockery.  Yowa has largely been an endearing franchise. It started strong and surprised a lot of us. Unfortunately, that didn't continue, and this last season is especially disappointing. If you're craving inane nonstop flashbacks, borderline yaoi plotlines, and one dimensional characters who are utterly devoid of believable motivations, hop on. You're in for a great ride.  More than half the season is completely irrelevant or repeated content. I would rather drink the sweat wrung out of a post-race Tour de France jersey than watch this again.  I gave it a 2, because... See full review

Isekai Cheat Magician

Jul 16, 2020

Of all the garbage isekai that embody everything the anime community hates, this is the worst I've viewed.  I don't feel comfortable taking the time to break this down to give it an in-depth review. It wouldn't be fair to myself after the energy and inner turmoil that went into finishing the show. Just give it a pass. It isn't worth your time. You WILL skip forward. Even if, like me, you have an unhealthy appreciation for all things isekai fan service, you will not enjoy this stale, flavorless, clearly written by children for children, big-bad-boss-waiting-idly-by-while-the-MC-talks-for-15-minutes... Black Clover

Oct 4, 2017

Ep2 update 10.10.2017/ The second episode takes time to cover up a few of the pilot's mistakes. Most of the episode is a flashback that parallels the present-time situation and serves to explain and defend the characters' traits and motivations. I enjoyed this episode much more than the first, and raised the sectional and overall point values accordingly, though the narrative and character design still feel lackluster and poorly devised.  The biggest surprise in this episode is the realization that the MC's VA isn't awful. The character is actually designed to be frustratingly annoying and... See full review

Yowamushi Pedal: New Generation

Apr 23, 2017

This is by far the worst season. Yowamushi Pedal quickly carved out it's place in my heart. I'm always excited for the next episode, and I'd genuinely say that -until this current season- I'd rank it as one of my favorite sports anime to date. That said, I feel like the mangaka never thought he'd continue the story past the first inter-high, and didn't make any plans to until after the show became a hit. This season is a half-assed effort to develope side characters well enough to fit in with the MC's. It's bad, but that's to be expected, and I cant bring myself to lower the character and story scores... See full review

Air Master

Apr 23, 2017

This anime isn't bad considering it came out in the 70's...oh...wait. The plot is barely adequate, the animation and sound are nostalgic in a way if you've watched a lot of older stuff, but even old school anime like Lupin III or Ashita no Joe would win in a side by side comparison. The characters are one dimensional and a few are actually so annoying that they'll make you question whether or not you should keep watching [I only did because it was on my list here]. The fight scenes are just a subpar effort to excuse the overly gratuitous panty shots [this might have flipped and become the only redeeming... See full review

Rowdy Sumo Wrestler Matsutaro

Oct 17, 2016

Wasn't great, but not as bad as other reviews imply. The last couple episodes tie it together and the abrupt ending feels right, not lazy. It was a nice anime to watch and just relax with a few chuckles here and there.

Baby Steps 2

Oct 8, 2016

I put off watching Baby Steps 1 & 2 for ages. I love sports anime, but Prince of Tennis left a horrible taste in my mouth. Blah - so boring. Baby Steps delivered, though. It fits in with newer sports anime like Kuroko no Basuke, Haikyuu!!!, Free!, Yowamushi Pedal, Days, etcetera... but there are a few things that make it stand on its own. It isn't quite as cookie cutter as most recent sports anime. I hope there's more.

Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's

Apr 28, 2016

I won't drag this out.  The animation isn't great, but that's to be expected from any Yu-Gi-Oh! series.  The voice acting is fine.  The characters are actually decent. Out of the gate, I'd say they're the most human in the Yu-Gi-Oh! universe.  Unfortunately, this anime sucks for two reasons.  1/The monsters, as in GX, are too... idk... lame? In the original series, while the characters were childish, the game itself was dark and gritty. The monsters were fierce and awesome. The new monsters are shiny and unoriginal - designed to attract kids ("ohhhh! shiny! mine's the... See full review

Bunny Drop

Dec 20, 2015

Save this anime for when your heart breaks or when you hit a low and you know you can't let yourself think about anything negative. It starts on a bitter note, but turns into the single cutest anime ever made.  Helped me get through a sleepless night and distracted me long enough to let my mind and heart heal just a little bit. That's a pretty impressive feat given the circumstances.   It's a must watch for anyone who watches anime and intends to remember them afterwards - regardless of your preferred genre - but, again, I'd save it for a rainy day.

Ace of the Diamond: Second Season

Dec 6, 2015

Update: Finished. Story lowered from 5 to 3 because of the ending; characters from 7 to 4. I'm writing this at episode 35 of the second season. If you've watched many sports anime, you won't be surprised by anything plotwise. It feels as though the story is stretched in an attempt to add depth, but I'd say that they've failed to do so. The characters still feel one dimensional at this point, and the little growth they've shown has taken far too long. I feel that any successful sports anime must have three elements. 1.) A deep understanding of the game. 2.) Dynamic character development.  3.) An... See full review
