Barakamon

Dec 27, 2015

*Secret Santa Anime Review* I was vaguely aware of Barakamon back when it first came out, but its story didn't grab my attention: A young calligrapher with anger management issues (Handa Seishuu) gets sent to rural island, where he makes friends with a cute little girl (Naru). Cue the awwww's.  Awww-type anime are fairly low on my priority list (I gravitate toward sports, certain brands of humor, and some action), but I'm glad Taekwondoin recommended this one to me. STORY: 7/10 There's nothing special about Barakamon's story. As expected, the main themes include... See full review

Magical Witch Punie-chan

Jan 8, 2011

The Meat of the Review If you’re looking for an innocent little magical girl anime, Dai Mahou Touge is not for you. However, if you want dark humor, parody, and violence, look no further! Tanaka Punie-chan is a princess from Magic Kingdom, blonde, cute, and… so violent and scary, she scared off a big god-beast-thing. The fun starts with the opening theme, where we see clips of Punie-chan in front of burning buildings – including the landmark largest wooden house. Oh dear! The actual content is great, too, each episode unveiling  new parody of magical girl anime with as much... See full review

Earl and Fairy

Dec 31, 2010

I approached Earl and Fairy with the expectation of a fairy tale. I wanted to be swept off my feet by handsome young men, and I was not disappointed. Earl and Fairy didn’t quite live up to its potential, and is certainly not for everyone, but I’m glad I watched it. Story – 6.5 Meet Edgar, a handsome young earl on a quest for the sword of the merrow (mermaids), which will secure his place as the Blue Knight Earl. Meet Lydia, a beautiful, naïve fairy doctor from the country side. It’s her job to mediate between fairies and humans. Since she can see and hear... See full review

Meguriau Sekai

Dec 27, 2010

Note from 2/22/12:Looking back, this review was rather mean. I'm not going to delete it, but stil... there wasn't much uplifting about this. Sure, it was fun to write, but it still wasn't nice. ----- I love reading funny reviews on anime-planet, especially the ones that rant and/or give terrible ratings to the anime in question. I was browsing such reviews when I came upon Meguriau Sekai. The anime was portrayed in such a negative light, I decided to watch it. And wow, it was bad. STORY – Well, there was some sort of story. I think. It seemed more like some sort of reflective entry in a diary... See full review

Fate/stay night

Dec 24, 2010

This is my second review, and the first one that I prepared for by taking notes on throughout the series. Since I'm still feeling out this reviewing thing, I don't yet have a firm rating scale, so bear with me, okay? Story At first, Fate/Stay Night's story seemed to have potential, but I rather doubted that the potential would be fulfilled. Surely the story would be cheesy or lackluster, especially seeing how the first few episodes went. Negative reviews gave me little hope of improvement. Imagine how glad I was to be proven wrong! First, the bad: Why was I expecting cheesy or lackluster? I remember... See full review

Working!!

Dec 21, 2010

Are you so short, you're often mistaken for an elementary student? Perhaps you love cute things, even though you're a boy? Or maybe you like to carry a katana around everywhere? So scared of males you punch any of them who come near? Don't worry. No matter what your quirk, you'll fit right in at Wagnaria, a family restaurant where the anime Working!! takes place.   Story Being the type of comedy that Working!! is, the story isn't intended to be the strong point of the show. Yet, it's still pretty good! Takanashi Souta walks down the street one winter eventhing, minding his own business, when a... See full review
