Antidote (Wu Zhe)

Jul 26, 2022

I enjoyed watching the "Antidote" donghua and was excited to learn it was getting a webtoon adaptation. I love this story and these characters in spite of their many flaws and eccentricities. In fact, their very human imperfections probably make me love them more. One is a gay artist from a wealthy family who, at 27 years old, discovers that his sheltered life of privilege has done very little to prepare him for surviving on his own in the real world - particularly when he gets booted out of his family's house with little more than the clothes on his back. He soon meets the other main lead, a... See full review

A Single Strike Of Shimmering Frost

Jul 25, 2022

I can't express enough how much I love this webtoon. The art is lovely, the relationship between the main characters is precious, the story is engaging, and now that season 1 is over I'm feeling lost and adrift waiting less-than-patiently for season 2. Story: This danmei is no slouch in the story department. In just the first season we get murder mysteries, political conspiracies, a truly horrific childhood backstory, the kidnapping of an extremely cute ferret, a man (and those around him) trying to cope with his fatal illness, and a beautiful, slowly blossoming romance. Characters: The main characters... See full review

Would You Like to be a Family?

Jul 15, 2021

Going to be upfront with the fact that I don't particularly care for manga volumes that are just a collection of short stories, so this review may be somewhat biased based of that fact. The stories never feel long enough or fully fleshed out, and leave me wanting more of something that 99% of the time I'm never going to get. Such is the case here. The first story is adorable, featuring a salaryman that falls in love with his male coworker, who has become a single parent since he adopted his late friends' orphaned child. The second story features a brash high-schooler who falls for his older brother's... See full review

Cheri, My Destiny!

Jul 13, 2021

A short and sweet story about two men with a love for sweets. I enjoyed this book, although I wasn't sure I would when first introduced to the main protagonist. In the beginning, readers are lead to believe Kaoru Sakura (a maker of candy and other sweets who studied in France) is rude, obnoxious, and full of himself. He behaves like a total brat as he marches over to a competing shop determined to convince the place of his obvious superiority and lecture the man he sees working there about the virtues of western sweets over traditional Japanese confections. He imagines the other fellow will... See full review

Fangs

Jul 11, 2021

I really enjoyed the first volume of this vampire BL. I may be biased considering I love both vampires and boys-love stories, and I'll admit the idea of a supernatural welfare organization is hardly a new concept in manga, but "Fangs" was a delight to read. I found the main couple to be particularly sweet and I especially enjoyed the wide range of different vampires the readers meet. Our somewhat innocent protagonist, En, is new to the vampire gig. As a human, he was a homeless teenager in the process of figuring himself and his life out, and now as a vampire he must do the same on top... See full review

Reborn as a Polar Bear: The Legend of How I Became a Forest Guardian

Jun 7, 2021

Why does everyone want to fuck this bear?

That's my question after reading 5 volumes, and my patience with this series is officially spent. I saw the fluffy bear and cute Holo-like wolf girl on the cover and thought this was going to be an interesting isekai forest survival story where a big fluffy animal with a human-like mind takes a pack of animal-eared sisters under his wing (well, technically paw) in a protective, parental kind of way and they have random adventures along the way. To be fair, that's exactly what Kumakichi tries to do, but the girls are having none of it... Final Fantasy I * II * III: Memory of Heroes (Light Novel)

Dec 6, 2020

Those who pick up this novel looking for it to expand on the worlds of the first three Final Fantasy games are probably going to be disappointed, as this book does the opposite. It's like an abridged version of the games; with whole characters and plotlines removed to turn what should have been three separate light novels into three short stories squeezed into a single volume. Because of this, the pacing is rushed and before you can get absorbed in most of the scenes they are already over and the story has moved on to the next. I found this especially annoying in the first... See full review

The Scene of My Rumspringa

Dec 24, 2019

I really love this story, and totally get why it was number 1 on the 2019 'Kono BL ga Yabai!' list. 1980s America was an interesting choice for a BL, but the vast fields of the Amish countryside and small Pennsylvania town suit it perfectly. Good art, interesting characters, and a compelling story of two men who are trying to figure out how to overcome the personal obstacles holding them back from their dreams. One has fallen low and grown cynical after giving up on his childhood dream of becoming a dancer, while the other, a wide-eyed innocent, is trying to figure out how to balance his strict religious... Somewhere in Time

Nov 2, 2019

Going to be honest and say this webtoon was a great disappointment. What I expected was something similar to "Social Cat" - a cute story with lots of funny scenes featuring the main character dealing with being temporarily transformed into a cat. You get a bit of that here at first, but the story soon devolves into an angsty, confusing mess where the main characters' current predicament is pushed to the side in favor of many, many tedious flashback chapters focusing on their school days or featuring characters I couldn't care less about. It took me months to get through this 91 chapter slogfest... See full review

Innocent Blue

May 13, 2019

Warning: Spoilers

This manga is deceptively sweet... at first. A sickly teenage boy falls in love with a transfer student and wants to have a normal love life like the rest of his peers in spite of his illness. He wants to hang out, go on dates, have sex and do all the other things boys his age get to do, instead of living under the constant care and supervision of his overprotective relatives. This would be fine if his love interest wasn't a total asshole. Once our frail main character leaves his cousin's protective watch and develops a false sense of security, his lover betrays him in one... See full review

Peak Romance

Dec 4, 2018

This is probably my least favorite omegaverse manga, and that's quite a feat in a genre riddled with non-consensual sex, worlds where bestiality is normal, and even includes a story about a teenager who is sexually attracted to an elementary school child. While there is also plenty of non-cringy omegaverse stories, this particular tale is not one of them. It doesn't have characters being sexually pleasured by beastmen or people fighting their lust for small children, but it has - in my opinion - some of the most aggravating and unlikeable characters I've read in a manga in a long time. The... See full review

Youchi na Koi wo Doushiyou

Oct 12, 2018

This was my very first omegaverse manga, and after reading a great many more it remains my favorite for a number of reasons. The characters are loveable, their relationship is actually consensual, the sex is hot, and the drama doesn't stretch on for too long. Basically, it avoids a few of the most common tropes that the ABO sub-genre is known for and presents a sweet story of two boys falling in love. It also writes the main characters like the adolescents they actually are. Both have been sexually active prior to meeting each other, but having sex doesn't make you an adult and it won't automatically... See full review

A Guy Like You

Jun 17, 2018

While the art isn't bad for this webcomic and it has been interesting enough for me to consume 64 chapters in one day, I have to say A Guy Like You has two major flaws. Firstly, the primary and secondary characters for this series are seriously annoying. All four of them. We've got Kang Jinha, a moody fellow who is hurt that his childhood friend, Siwon Go, doesn't remember him. So he decides to lash out and hurt Siwon right back. Because that's a sure-fire way to win someone's heart, right? Instead of, you... See full review

Royal Fiance

May 29, 2018

Going to be honest, I absolutely hated this manga. It romanticizes sexual abuse and human trafficking, and in the end, the victim develops a bad case of Stockholm Syndrome. It all starts when the main character's elderly aunt falls ill and has to be hospitalized. The kindly old woman has been paying for his education since his parents abandoned him, but when medical bills eat up all her money he is forced to drop out of school. He tries to find a job to support himself and help pay for his aunt's medical care, and it's at this point a shady old man enters the picture and offers him an... Deep Clear

Sep 26, 2014

For people who enjoyed Sana's adventures as a precocious, hyper young girl and would like to see how her and Akito's lives turned out after childhood, Deep Clear doesn't disappoint. Now all grown up and expecting her first child, very little about Sana's personality has changed. We get to see how she's continued using her sunny disposition and unique attributes to give herself a successful acting career and a happy life. Her marriage, on the other hand, appears to be having problems and her agent Rei is determined to find out why. He suspects Akito of adultery but Sana doesn't seem to be overly concerned...
