You Sure This Is Shounen?

Shounen manga are known to fall back on a handful of "traditional" shounen sub-categories: battles (whether they are historical, fantastical, gang fights, military, space wars, or collectible monsters who fight in the protagonist's stead), school comedies, male-centered (or pandering) fantasy adventures with either a powerful male protagonist or an eye-candy female protagonist, and of course the usual harems, yuri, and fanservice. (Can't forget the waifus!) But some series don't follow a standard shounen formula, to the point of feeling like it belongs to another genre entirely.
1 A Silent Voice

A Silent Voice

A drama about a boy and his deaf classmate. Nothing about this really feels like a traditional shounen series.

2 Barakamon

A countryside comedy/slice-of-life series about an adult calligrapher trying to find himself. Feels like seinen manga rather than shounen.

3 Black Butler

Black Butler

Shounen? More like fujoshi bait.

4 Boku no Koto Suki ni Natte

Boku no Koto Suki ni Natte

Crossdressing shounen BL? Apparently so.

5 Flying Witch

Flying Witch

Iyashikei about a young witch having low-key adventure in the countryside. Doesn't feel like shounen at all.

6 Haruno to Natsukawa.

Haruno to Natsukawa.

More crossdressing 'shounen' BL

7 Hitoribocchi no OO Seikatsu

Hitoribocchi no OO Seikatsu

This school comedy about a young girl trying to make friends feels more like a shoujo series.

8 Kyou, Curry!

Kyou, Curry!

Cute slice of life about a man running a curry shop with his little girl.

9 The Ancient Magus' Bride

The Ancient Magus' Bride

A fantasy series starring a teenage orphan girl in a magic-filled cottegecore environment in the English countryside. Seems more like a shoujo fantasy.

10 Yoshi no Zuikara: The Frog in the Well Does Not Know the Ocean

Yoshi no Zuikara: The Frog in the Well Does Not Know the Ocean

By the author of Barakamon, and like that series, it features an adult male in the countryside trying to focus on his profession and get his life together, making it feel like seinen rather than shounen.
