AlexArmstrong says... Hey, thanks for your comments and reviews, i was really thinking to go and watch gurren lagann after watching fate UBW (or kill la kill). ive reviewd my anime now according to your review system (very helpful, thanks :D ive rated my anime 4.5 stars if it made me feel 'empty' afterwards) and as you can see, im kinda into the shounen genre, especially with good fighting scenes  (im really, really, really loving the animation in fate UBW). i do have to say though that im not willing to start watching an anime like naruto, one piece or dragon ball z, as it would just take too long to finish an ongoing story. D-gray man is probably the longest i will ever be willing to watch. if you can recommend me some anime that i may have overlooked, please do! id love to hear some advice. Thanks :D

I totally hear you about the "epic" length shounen titles, it can take so very, very long to view them and it -is- a bit off-putting to think of starting one that has hundreds of episodes out there.  But having watched a few of them, I will say this: you have the time spent with them so you can really, really get emotionally involved with the characters!  The bad side is the plot development in these shows - they can drag out one plot element or one story arc or one key battle for far, far too long.  DBZ is especially notorious for this!  There's also a lot of "filler" (side stories and fun or comic only epsodes - stories that don't advance the main plot arc in any way) and that kills them for a lot of folks, although for me, they just add more "color" and "flavor" so I don't generally mind them.

\r\n

The sad part for me is that I often end up having to do REWATCHES of these overly long titles!  Think it's bad to think about watching them ONCE all the way through??????!!!!!!!  But these long titles tend to get shelved "temporarily" for me and before I know it, it's been months since I watched, and it's not as fresh in my mind any more... so I feel compelled to start over to renew it in my head.  Even if I've already invested hundreds of episodes!  Do you have any idea how HARD it was for me to finally complete/finish watching Bleach?????  It took me soooooooo long, and over 30 attempts to finally finish it;  one time getting 185 episodes in before I stalled and had to rewatch...  *sigh*

\r\n

So, my advice is not to rule them out entirely, especially considering that you enjoy the genre!  But best to make a viewing schedule for yourself and stick to it so you don't end up stalling and needing a rewatch! *grin*

I know it can be hard to rate shows sometimes. I used to have such a hard time of it, and often just settled for rating everything as 3-stars, meaning I neither loved nor hated it.  But then I created my current ratings system, and that makes it easy: I just see how the show made me feel and give it the corresponding rating from my system descriptions.  Now, I feel my ratings are much more consistent and meaningful!  Here is my system, if you want to take a look at it:  Sianeka's Rating System.

Taking a look at your anime list and here are some quick thoughts that come to mind.  Some quick notes from your Want to Watch list:

\r\n

Angel Beats! - this title is known for it's "feelz" - it shamelessly tries to manipulate your emotions and often succeeds!

\r\n

GANTZ - explicit and excessively violent, it has many memorable moments that will stick in your head long after you've finished watching it

\r\n

Guilty Crown - lots of intrigue and plot twists abound in this futuristic dystopian tale

\r\n

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni - the non-linear story progression really fuels the horror aspect of this title; it may take a while to wrap your head around what's happening, but it's really got some thrills in this story

\r\n

Jigoku Shoujo - Ugh! (I just couldn't get past the first few episodes, which basically tell the same story over and over again. Same plot with different characters.  Not for me.  I've heard there actually is some plot development later in the series, but I never made it that far.)

\r\n

Kuroshitsuji - aka Black Butler.  Sebastian Michaelis is truly one HELL of a butler!

\r\n

Neon Genesis Evangelion - Overrated.  Worth watching for getting to know the iconic characters and there are some good mech battles, but the psychological and symbolic philosophica claptrap that fills it just ruins it.  And that ending!!!!!!!  NO!!!!!!

\r\n

Pupa - really not even worth it for the shock value

\r\n

Spice and Wolf - a nice slow paced SOL with touch of romance thrown into the mix

\r\n

Steins;Gate - awesome story, great characters!  Although, a warning: it takes a bit to find its pace and hit its stride so please be patient with it and bear with it for about 10 episodes before you really get to know and love the characters and truly understand the storyline...

\r\n

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann - this popular title really has it all: comedy, adventure, romance, even mechas!

\r\n

I wanted to make some suggestions to you of anime that are not yet on your Anime List, but find that it will be nearly impossible for me to do so, since you haven't yet rated any of the anime you've seen.  I have no way of knowing what you enjoyed, what you loved, what you merely watched, what you hated...

\r\n

Add some ratings and I would love to make some recommendations for you!

AlexArmstrong says...  Thanks! Maybe i will get involved with the community :D at first i only use this site to keep track of anime and recommendations. speaking about that, can you maybe recommend something, based on the anime ive seen?^^

\r\n

Definitely get involved in the Forum if you feel comfortable doing so.   The forum is the real heart of communication on the site (you can send private messages to other members and can get involved with clubs and group activities). It's lively and fun there - lots of interaction with other members.

\r\n

But note that you'll need to create a separate forum registration ID - Recommended to use the same name as your site ID as the two areas are not yet merged (but that is coming sometime in the very near future as part of the site redesign). Just click on community link at the top of the page, and then choose Forum link from the dropdown menu.

\r\n

Feel free to join some clubs or play some forum games as well - You'll definitely get to recognize and "know" other members and make friends on the site.

\r\n

(I'll take a quick peek qt your Anime List and come up with some suggestions for you. Maybe you will even find that you end up really enjoying some of the anime I recommend, that'd be awesome!)
