My Home Hero

Mar 14, 2023

***No Spoilers*** Is it good? Yes. Should you read it? That really depends. Brace for the rant. This series follows a trope I personally hate. If you've ever watched shows like Breaking Bad, The Sopranos, or Silicon Valley then you'll be familiar with this one. It's a never ending trainwreck that always manages to up the ante. A thriller no doubt, but a one trick pony. Don't expect any 'feel good' moments, only "problem ----> solution ----> problem" with no meaningful pause in between. I mean the author even threw in a not-so-subtle omage to Breaking Bad so... Manager Kim

Jul 4, 2022

**No spoilers** This review is based on my reading experience up to chapter 37. As you can tell from the synopsis, this is essentially the Korean version of "Taken". However, the thing about Taken is that it's a movie plot. Its story is intentionally fast paced and action packed to keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time. Now try to imagine if they made Taken but somehow tried to drag out it's duration to 5+ hours. That's the fundamental problem with "Manager Kim". In the beginning the pacing is excellent, but it quickly becomes apparent that... See full review

Release that Witch (Novel)

Apr 11, 2020

*spoiler free review* The synopsis does not do this novel proper justice. Our MC is an engineer before he's isekai'd into this fantasy setting. The fascinating part, which was never really conveyed via the manhwa, is how he comes up with solutions to problems. The novel describes his scientific process and troubleshooting in trying to recreate modern technology in detail previously unseen in other isekai. It gives the story a very fresh/original feeling while occasionally educating the reader in an entertaining way. That's what truly sets it apart. There's a polished balance between character interaction... See full review

Girls of the Wild's

Oct 15, 2017

Let this be a warning. (No Spoilers) This manhwa has a fairly interesting plot that got me hooked instantly. The author has a unique presentation that I find refreshing in a sea of genericness. That being said, while the beginning and middle were done well, something changed. The best way I can describe it, it's as if a sculpter crafted a masterpiece, only to take a sledgehammer and smash it into oblivion. Finishing this series felt like a grind or an endurance race. But having already invested roughly 200 chapters of my life into it made it hard to leave unfinished. The climax felt completely rushed and... See full review

The Legendary Moonlight Sculptor

Mar 14, 2017

I don't write reviews, but for the first time I felt it necessary. No spoilers. The art is absolutely superb, it blows my mind looking at some of the scenes and imagining how much time and effort went into them. The artist is very good a portraying the general 'atmosphere' and 'feel' of a fantasy environment. There were times when I would pause my reading simply to revel in awe at the detail and creativity. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, the artist decided to cut ties with this work at some point and it really shows. What were once highly detailed environments are replaced by uninspired 3D...
