The Shape of Sympathy

Oct 15, 2021

The only thing that kept me going while reading For Your Love and the sequel For Our Love was to see more of Yuri. For Your Love is boring, nothing really happens. Still, it's not hard to sit through the 55 chapters since they are pretty short and somewhat enjoyable. But why would I even read the sequel? Let me just tell you right now, if you didn't particularly like the main story, no need to bother reading the sequel. It's more of the same. Nothing happens and it's still boring. BUT- Yuri. Yuri was the sole reason I read the sequel. While reading the main story I came to like him a lot. He is very interesting with his bad mouth and blunt personality. So, before jumping into the story where he is the MC, I wanted to get the full background and every crumb. That's it, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered.

So, as you can see, I liked Yuri a lot from the start. When I realized he had his own story, I was very excited to read it and only read the boring sequel to get the full background to read this one. Now, jumping to The Shape of Sympathy, it's a story where my favourite character from another comic is the MC, so I went to read it with high hopes. And it was..... very, very weird at first. Yuri's unrequited love is his sister. It was a little uncomfortable for me to see that. But please, if you start reading and think of dropping it because of it, don't! It gets explained later on. (spoiler - she is adopted and 5 years older than him. she is a very kind person and 10 year-old Yuri whose parents don't even look at him fell for the first person to ever care about him. they are still blood-related because they are cousins, but they are not real brothers. it's still iffy but nothing ever happens between them. It's a one-sided crush from Yuri's side. - end spoiler).

Also, some people might have a problem with Yuri's personality, so if you've read For Your Love and didn't like him, you sure as hell ain't gonna like him here. His personality gets worse haha he is such an asshole sometimes. I still love him tho. Looks like he is starting to get some real development, I'm looking forward to it when more chapter are out.

About Seonwoo, I think the teacher struggles are portrayed really well. He tries his best and gets scolded as a reward, the students are disrespectful and make fun of him because he is 'weak'... meanwhile he just genuinely wants to help the students. He deserves a thousand hugs. I hope to see him heal and his mental health get better.

The art is a huge improvement from the first two comics. The story is developing slowly but strongly. Idk why but it has an atmosphere that I particularly like. The characters are all very well developed.

Despite how this comic may sound at first, with all the 'problematic' stuff and the relationship between the mcs, I get a good feeling about it and I'm enjoying it very much. You can already see them changing because of each other and I look forward to seeing them help and heal each other.

There are 53 chapters out atm so if you come here after there are more chapters and the story has taken a completely different direction from what I thought pls don't come at me

?/10 story
?/10 art
?/10 characters
8/10 overall
