Zatsuyou Fuyojutsushi ga Jibun no Saikyou ni Kidzuku Made

Wimme Strauss is an adjunct sorcerer who provides support and does odd jobs. However, after defeating the master of the hierarchy, he is expelled from the party by the leader, whose pride is hurt. Wimme is at a loss, but his childhood friend (and Wimme's's stalker), Heidemarie, finds him and recruits him for the biggest party, the Wings of the Dragon. "It's like a miracle ...... fuhehe." He claims that his achievement is a coincidence, but it's only a matter of time before everyone around him realizes what he's capable of.

TL;DR - It's pretty average, leaning towards good. Some things are done well and some things could use improvement. Let's start with what's good - the overall story progression and the art. Most of us love a good comeback/underdog story, and it's always really satisfying to see characters "reveal" their true selves. Although it follows a formula that we've seen tons of times (a really skilled character is ousted from a high-ranking party b/c they're stupid and think he's useless, and he finds his niche/glory with a new group), the characters are somewhat tolerable here. Another story that follows the exact same progression is I Left My A-Rank Party to Help My Former Students Reach the Dungeon Depths, but that one was executed piss-poorly because the setting, the world, and characters didn't make any sense. Here, Wimme has a personality that actually aligns with his situation (as frustrating as his wimpiness is). He's naturally self-deprecating and not confident in himself, but this checks out because of how he'd been treated and abused by his old party. It was nice seeing the stark contrast in how he's appreciated by his new party members and how more situations arise for him to show off how multi-talented he is. It was also fairly entertaining to see the stark contrast between how unsure of himself he is vs. how overpowered he actually can be (although it is a typical trope). To help facilitate the story progression, you get really good artwork as well. The characters are clean and well-drawn, but more importantly, the backgrounds and special effects are drawn incredibly well. You get a good sense of how vast dungeons and spaces are, and you're also given clear illustrations of how technical and detailed Wimme is with his thinking and planning. The art style just works for this kind of storytelling and worldbuilding. Having said the above, let's talk about what I thought could have been improved. Just like with I Left My A-Rank Party (the other manga linked above), I thought that the original party (Dragon's Wings) that kicked Wimme out was unsophisticated and stupid. How do you guys not notice that you're getting buffed all the time? More importantly, I don't understand how they can get KO'd by the floor boss on the first hit, but then still claim Wimme is "useless" when he solo defeats the floor boss to save their stupid asses. They kicked him out, but of course, as is typical of these kinds of progressions, they find out later that "oh my gosh, why is it so much harder without Wimme around?" while getting their asses beat on a really low dungeon level, and the person who replaces him finds all these ridiculously technical, detailed documents with dungeon layouts, thorough battle plans and enemy data, etc. etc. You'd have to be mentally handicapped to just not notice these things. It's unbelievable for a 4-person, B-ranked party that was on the verge of being promoted to A-rank. Nonsensically stupid and malicious/mean for no good reason. I need antagonists that make sense and have depth to them. Together with that, although Wimme is an interesting MC with his personality dichotomy, everyone else has been relatively uninteresting so far. Heidemarie has some personality quirks in that she's supposed to be a serious Wimme admirer (actually, stalker), but they lay off of that after the first several chapters and she just becomes another mild, pleasant team member/friend. Everyone in the new party is supportive, but boringly so - very little tension and conflict, and no new characters with interesting personalities. Wimme gets along with his new party just fine, no issues. Really not much going on so far. I do realize there are only 17 chapters out as of this review, but each chapter is a decent length. I was hoping by now there'd be more interesting inter-character conflicts, but with the incredibly dumb antagonists/former party and the very uninteresting, mild new party, the only point of interest this story has going for it is Wimme's personality quirks and his hidden skills. Eventually those will lose their novelty and the author will have to focus on character development and conflicts. Hopefully by then, there will be something there. Overall, not a bad read. It has some potential, but it remains to be seen whether the author can improve some of the weak points we've already seen so far.
