Extra chapter from My Broken Mariko.
The scene opens on a man grabbing a duffel bag filled with cash out of the trunk of a car that's parked in the middle of an American desert. In the front seats of the car are the corpses of two people who were shot in the head, blood splattered on the windshield. From there, this man runs into a local named Danton, who then acts as a guide as they walk through the desert. It's very much a non-story, a series of uncaptivating moments and mild attempts at drama set in a Western aesthetic. The attempt at showing the two travelers bonding, with the name-writing and pointing out how to live better, didn't really land for me. The climax is a firefight between the man and some other men. The fight also didn't really land for me. I generally thought the artwork was well done, though the man sometimes looked overly two-dimensional and like feir face was distorted.
