Both manga share a similar sense of humor. In both stories the MC try to keep their personal lives secret from their piers.

Although the age group and setting is very different, the style of story telling and the unique characters are both humerous and similar.

cschuma cschuma says...

These manga both focus more on the everyday goings-on of a relationship. Instead of lots of buildup and drama (which can be fun int he right mood!), these two series focus on more tender, silly, or totally average moments of two people in love.

blue1r1s blue1r1s says...

The fact that the characters are not what they seem at first glance and need to hide it from the world to some extent make both manga feel really similar.

yangry yangry says...

Very cute slice of life, realistic and frames multiple moments of sweet domesticity in all couples. The most enjoyable part of these stories is the relationships between the characters and themselves, which can be seen as generally boring by most, but they're down to earth and have stories and characters that stick with you.

Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun

Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun

When Chiyo finally works up the courage to tell Nozaki how she feels about him, she knows rejection is on the table...but getting recruited as a manga-ka's assistant?! Never in a million years! But for someone who makes a living drawing sweet girly romances, Nozaki-kun is a little slow on the uptake when it comes to matters of the heart in reality. And so Chiyo's daily life of manga making and heartache begins!

Although Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun is about high-school students and Wotakoi is a slice of life about adults, the otaku culture is present in both which makes the adults seem like teenagers all over again but allows for more risqué jokes.

There is also some extent of role reversal of usual male and female characters in both manga that is a big part of the plot's humor.

These unique characters traits coupled with the fact that some of them are KY (totaly oblivious of certain athmospheres) is a point that makes both manga endearing in my opinion.

The way both plots evolve can get you attached quickly even to the minor characters making them all seem equally contributing to the story, in my eyes.

Similar personalities in protagonists, Chiyo is to Wotakoi's Narumi as Nifuji is to Nozaki. Some side characters have similar tropes as well, Kashima is what an extroverted Sakuragi would be like.

AndriasSch AndriasSch says...

The main couple share the same personalities and looks, plus one of them is a manga/dojin author. There are many otaku culture references being thrown all the time.

Game Yaru kara 100-en Kashite!

Game Yaru kara 100-en Kashite!

Sugita is a handsome, skilled newcomer at a company who gets along with everyone… everyone except for the petite assistant manager, Yumihara, who tend to be very strict on him. One day during his lunch break, Sugita finds a small, secluded coffee shop named "Dead Copy" which features special tables dedicated for playing retro games. To his surprise, he also spots Yumihara completely immersed in her game like a child; opposite of the strict attitude she shows back at the office.

Gamers? Check. Appearance different from personality? Check. Office workers? Check. Comedy? Check. Romance? Check.

SillyNeko SillyNeko says...

These two have a same concept of female game lover. There differnce is the male lead, but they are both fun. One is on retro games the other is on more modern RPG games. That does not ruin the fun of either manga! They both have a different humor and Game Yaru is amazing at the end of a chapter.

THEIR LOVE LIFE HOWEVER OH BOY!

One is already in a great relation with the other main character; however the other is a bit of a tease almost like a typical shojo manga yet not that fuzzy.

kireishinju kireishinju says...

There are gamer characters and the story is all about games with a tinge of romance building up (I hope ^_^).

They're both working people too.

Plus, it's really light and funny! :D

My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999

My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999

Akane was dumped. To make matters worse, her ex met the new girl in Forest of Savior, an online RPG they both played. Only played to spend time with her boyfriend. Despite her sadness, she logs in one last time. That's when she meets Yamada. the thing is, Yamada is only interested in the game and definitely not interested in her problems. When she meets the real Yamada (coincidentally at a Forest of Savior live event), it turns out he is a pretty famous pro gamer. She then proceeds to introduce him to everyone as her new boyfriend. Everything is backwards and getting right is so much fun in Loving Yamada at Lv999!

Although Yamada-kun revolves more around a single game, rather than general otaku behaviours like Wotakoi, I feel their MCs (Yamada/Hirotaka and Akane/Naruse) are somewhat similar.

Both Manga have a similiar feel (to me) and if you like one, you'd probably enjoy the other.

BiteyCabbit BiteyCabbit says...

Both Wotakoi and Lv999 focus on romances involving gamers.Wotakoi has a broader range of hobbies, and characters,  it focuses on, where Lv999 mostly focuses on a single game and romance.

Curiousmadra Curiousmadra says...

They have a pretty cold stone face male lead and the female lead is the more eccentric one. Personally Wotakoi is better but both sorta have the same type of flow in main characters...

My Senpai is Annoying

My Senpai is Annoying

My name is Futaba Igarashi, and my senpai, Takeda-san, is annoying. He's big, loud, always in the way, and treats me like a child because he's so tall and I'm so short. But he's also kind, caring, and willing to go above and beyond for me. For example, he stopped some pervert from filming up my skirt when we took the train together, gave me a drink when I was pulling a long shift, and even came over to my place when I was cooped up with a cold. What gives?! If he keeps acting like this, people are going to think we're dating or something...!

ShazzeaS ShazzeaS says...

Both series are romances featuring otaku and have a variety of relatable situations that come about from that premise. The biggest difference is that Wotakoi features adult characters and the main relationship is between two otaku while 2.5 Jigen Kareshi features high-schoolers and the main relationship is between a secret otaku and a guy who hates otaku. If you want to read a romcom featuring otaku then both these series should do it for you.
