Both mangas have a lot of similiarities. First they all have really good planned universes , with their rules. Main characters are part of a team for saving a world. Both have an idea to hunt down witches and all characters have unique abilities.

D.Gray-Man

D.Gray-Man

Allen Walker is not your average fifteen-year-old boy - he is an exorcist and a member of the Black Order, an organization charged by the Church with the elimination of Akuma. The Akuma are the minions of The Millenium Earl - an evil demon-like entity intending to cleanse the world by destroying the entire human race in the manner of Noah's great flood. Allen and the other exorcists are special people who are compatible with a substance named Innocence, which allows them to form Anti-Akuma weapons; and as such Exorcists are the only ones capable of fighting the Akuma. Allen and his friends must battle to save humanity from the Akuma and Earl's evil plans.

Hmmm... A bunch of people with unique powers, working in church-based military organisation, hunting down the evil guys, (also with unique power). Hell, even their uniforms look practically the same... Add to that, that in both cases the main character is a white-haired kid and the titles start to resemble twins.

Of course there are some small differences.. Like the powers, the designs, the names... But you know - switch exorcists for witch hunters, devils for witches and you got the same stuff.

Blue Exorcist

Blue Exorcist

Rin Okumura is a seemingly ordinary boy living at the Southern Cross Boy’s Monastery. One day, however, Rin encounters a boy who has been possessed by a demon. Amidst the struggle, he not only awakens latent powers sealed within him, but also learns that he is the son of Satan! No longer able to stay under the protection of the church and with his very existence straddling the line between human and demon, Rin decides to fight against his parentage and joins the True Cross Order as an exorcist. Now, the teen must attend the True Cross Academy and begin special exorcist training alongside his new comrades all while keeping his identity a secret; but can the son of Satan really become a true exorcist?

Witch Buster (I always knew it as Witch Hunter, and that is likely the title you will find when trying to read it online) has an organization similar to that of Blue Exorcist, except instead of fighting demons, characters are fighting witches. All the characters have unique powers that allow them to fight their respective antagonists, and both series' organizations also feature a ranking system for abilities. There are multiple moments where the humor in both of these series also feels very similar. Avoiding spoilers as much as I can, the main characters in both also share powers that make some members of their respective organizations suspicious of them.

The major difference between the two is that Witch Buster has a lot of fanservice. In my opinion it is borderline ecchi. However, if you can get past that, and are looking for a series similar to Blue Exorcist, Witch Buster may be the way to go (or vice versa).

Heads up: Witch Buster is a manhwa, so it reads left to right.
