7.5

0,5/10 if I would rate this as a horror manhwa7,5 - 8 /10 if I would rate this as a supernatural / tragedy / psychological manhwa Whisper is a collection of several stories. It’s classified as horror and supernatural but it comes nowhere near being horror. I don’t think it should be classified as horror but then again I kind of get why it has that tag. I think there were two stories that dealt with ghost in a more “scary” setting but it still wasn’t scary to me. I think the horror tag is misleading because if you go in thinking that this is going to be horror, you’ll be extremely disappointed. That’s what happened to me after reading two stories because there was just nothing horror worthy. Though, I kept reading and started to enjoy it as a supernatural/tragedy/psychological manhwa. The first story is called Painter, and reading it made me feel sick and not in a good way. This one screamed schizophrenia to me, especially because it affected two people from the same family. Horror often has this “I see things that others don’t” kind of plot, which can be good if it’s executed well. This wasn’t executed well, and because of that it wasn’t scary but extremely sad. Like I said, this screamed schizophrenia to me, and the way the characters dealt with it made my heart hurt. I really hated this story because it’s the definition of ignorance towards schizophrenia. Yes, I’m well aware that the author was going for the “I see things that others don’t” horror plot but that completely missed its target in my opinion. Honestly, if it this wasn’t classified as horror but as mistreatment of schizophrenia or like the start of getting schizophrenia and not knowing what's going on or something like that, this would have been a masterpiece. But now it looks like horror is using schizophrenia to make a “scary” story, which is really sad to me. For the rest of the stories, none are worth being called horror. In fact, most of them are rather sad. Take Snow Storm for example. Night’s Rest even made me tear up a bit. Then I started to listen to violin music while reading Muse and that one straight up broke my heart. I loved all of these. Even though Whisper really disappointed me as a horror manhwa, I was surprised by how good some of these supernatural/tragedy chapters are. There were some chapters that I felt nothing towards, maybe because I didn’t get these, but overall I enjoyed this read.
