Unmei no Kiss wa Oazuke

Nanao proudly works at an omega cabaret, where his evenings consist of friendly chatter, cross-dressing cosplay, and occasionally using sex to break the pride of the shop's more problematic customers. He despises arrogant alphas and is infuriated when a wealthy man named Keiji Arisaka comes to the shop one night and immediately starts criticizing his line of work. In spite of this, Nanao's body reacts to Arisaka by going into heat, and Arisaka quickly realizes that the two of them are a fated pair. Knowing that he was in the wrong, Arisaka decides to apologize for his words and reassess his own way of thinking, determined to win the heart of this proud omega.

"I don't plan on treating you like my property," Arisaka says...immediately after acting super entitled and dismissive of Nanao's autonomy, actions which stated another way are Arisaka treating Nanao like feir property. And that's basically the sort of vibe this manga gives off. Like, you can tell that the author is aiming to make this an omegaverse where the alpha is respectful and cares about getting consent, but ends up writing scenes which are clearly nonconsensual and disrespectful. A good example of this dissonance is the first sexual encounter between Arisaka and Nanao. We see Arisaka sorta go through the motions of asking for consent, saying "refuse me if you don't want this." But there are three problems with this: 1) "passive consent" (like what Arisaka is seeking) isn't actual consent; 2) someone in heat is clearly not in a mental state to even be able to give consent in the first place (similiar to how a drunk person can't actually give consent); and 3) when Nanao does try to refuse Arisaka's advances in the very next chapter, Arisaka ignores that refusal and gives the standard manga-rapist bullshit of "then why are you [turned on]?" and plows ahead anyway. Later on, Arisaka also engages in very possessive mannerisms, which I don't personally find romantic or endearing. I know that some readers do find jealousy and monopolizing your lover's time to be romantic traits, so those parts of the manga probably aren't a problem for those readers, but I personally just find those scenes grating. I also found the way the pairing was done in the heat of the moment to be an offputting scene, but I also realize that I tend to prefer seeing thoughtful contemplation over passion when it comes to long-term loving relationships (which, again, isn't necessarily the case for all readers, so many readers may find that scene to be nice). You know what I'd love to see one day? An omegaverse story where an omega prioritizes feir autonomy over feir bodily instincts and doesn't end up with feir "fated" alpha at the end of the story. That type of story could be actually inspiring and could actually create some far more interesting moments of dramatic tension than what you get in 90% of omegaverse stories out there. And this manga sorta followed that path for a few chapters to create some cheap dramatic moments, before eventually having the omega character just succumb to feir instincts and learn that doing so led to a decent outcome (which made for a kinda depressing and fatalistic character arc, if I'm being completely honest...). I'm not sure if we can draw any sort of moral lesson from these characters, other than maybe "going with the flow can be nice" or maybe "the status quo is good."
