Both have as main character a gangster-like boss with troublesome past and weird sex habbits.

I get a similar vibe from both. Both very good. Very much recommend both.

Umaianpan Umaianpan says...

Both have very dark, mature themes involving gangsters and are different to the average BL romance.

Lezarkween Lezarkween says...

Both stories involve a somewhat blasé ganster-boss uke and a somewhat more innocent devoted seme. Both stories are fantastic.

Both Acid Town and Twittering Birds are top notch yakuza-themed BL manga, that care as much about the actual plot as about the boys lovin'. Characters are dealing with themselves, trying to come to terms with their pasts all while living in a tough and unforgiving world. Although they differ slightly in tone and sexual content (Twittering Birds having somewhat more comedy and a lot more explicit scenes), they're absolute must-reads of the genre. If you felt engrossed by the setting and character exploration of either of these manga, be sure to check out the other!

Lezarkween Lezarkween says...

Twittering Birds Never Fly and Acid Town are both story-rich yakuza-themed mangas that get you as invested in the plot as in the BL.

Both are yaoi manga that focus on the yakuza/underworld in general. In both manga, the uke is the main character and is the one who tends to initiate relationships.

ShiroHatake ShiroHatake says...

Both are Yakuza BL, and therefore show aggressive depictions of smut. Adult relationships that are complicated by problems between groups or intergroup conflicts. The main characters relationships are those of a superior and a subordinate within the yakuza with the subordinate being extremely loyal to their superior. Both stories have several explicit scenes throughout the series.

On Doorstep is incredibly similar to Saezuru Tori wa Habatakanai. Yashiro's and Doumeki's relationship is similar to that of Jimmy and Reese: both are mature romances between two adult men, everything is consenual, and both started with one man being an ex cop, falling in love with a criminal. (Jimmy was a petty thief meanwhile Yashiro is a part of the yakuza) (+Reese and Doumeki are both ex cops).

Lezarkween Lezarkween says...

Both stories involve a former cop falling for a criminal, and both stories are told in a serious manner.

Both are yaoi manga that also deal with yakuza and gangs in a serious light. They both have messed up plots/characters at points, and sex isn't really the main focus of the manga (though it is a big part). They both have serious tones and dark plots.

If you like Saezuru or Sakura-Gari, there is a good chance you will like the other. They are both BL works, and not the usual ones. They both deal with mature themes like rape and loneliness, dark ambience. In both there is a master-servant relationships, although executed quite differently. Still, Saezuru is pure yaoi and still unfinished (everything can happen! story can turn 180 degrees...) while Sakura-Gari is a complete work, somewhat joseish.

The dynamic between uke and seme are very similar. To me, the only difference is the environment, One takes place in the omegaverse world and the other in the yakuza world.
