I tried to read a number of manga\manhua by Dal-Young IM lately. While I did like Unbalance x Unbalance, the rest of them didn't make me think too highly of the author. He is just a sick bastard who does some half-decent drama occasionally. And so, I picked up Tubame Syndrome for a change of style. At first I thought that, despite being a generic harem series, it had some potential (and is actually better than some crap from Dal-Young Im I read). However after a few chapters it got into "harem series" mood even more. Heck they even introduced a maid-robot chick who came from outer space whit little to no explanation. At this point the series was really like any of those generic harems which can hardly be enjoyable. The back story in the later half of the manga was OK and the tiny drama that occurred afterwards made it slightly less harem. And then comes the last chapter... I honestly wasn't expecting it. Expecting what? Borderline H... Well I guess some people will be happy with such ending. On the bright side it's a conclusive ending, something which isn't associated with harem series too often. The art wasn't particularly good or bad. This manga does not shine when it comes to characters. First of all we got this spineless nice guy protagonist, who also happens to be a bit of a pervert. How can someone possibly like him. The only good thing about him is that he actually kept liking one single girl through the whole series. Then there is his Nee-san who while much more likable (the back story actually makes her a more interesting character) seems very cliche. Speaking of cliche most other characters give such vibe as well. As a whole this isn't a really good manga. It's just your run of the mill harem, though it actually has a conclusion and there was some plot. P.S. I might come as a close minded person or something, but I don't like the development in romance series where they go from establishing a couple straight to sex. I know there were circumstances in this manga, but still... Edit: It seems I completely omitted writing a summary of the story. Here it is: Taiga is a senior high-school student who doesn't remember anything from the time before he started going to high-school. He lives alone with his older sister named Tsubame and she cares for him like a mother (or is she?). Said boy, aside from amnesia, has another problem, he finds his sister really attractive and as a result, has a major crush on her. One day when he gets attacked by a giant monster a girl in body suit comes to save him. Who do you think the girl is? Of course it's Tsubame. At this point Taiga learns two vital informations. First is that he is going to be attacked by those monsters whenever his heart beats too fast (like he gets too excited), second is that Tsubame isn't his sister (or if you prefere, that they are not related by blood). But Taiga's heart doesn't attract only monsters, soon a fake-loli space pirate Ura and "all-purpose cat-type maid robot" Cocktail (another visitor from outer space) join his harem. I forgot to mention that there was also his tomboyish classmate named Haruka. With all those ladies after him, Taiga is bound to have trouble keeping his hart from running fast (especially now that he knows that he and Tsubame are not really siblings).
